It’s wonderful seeing your process and hearing your thoughts & intentions. I always feel inspired and positive after watching you create. Thanks for all you share 💛🎨
Absolutely loving this series, your work and thoughts are inspirational! The paintings are looking wonderful so far. Your videos bring me back to the play and fun aspect of art, something I easily forget. Looking forward to trying your tips!
What a fantastic video I just stumbled upon your channel and see that you have so much to teach me. These really turned out beautifully. I loved seeing all of the different techniques you used.
Orla, there is something so peaceful and calming about your videos. Watching how you develop your ideas and concepts is inspirational. Watching your process, techniques and colour choices is mesmerizing. After a long, stressful day I find myself thinking 'I need to watch Orla'. Your whole approach to abstract art has greatly increased my respect for abstract artists and I see such value, learning and growth in the way you create each piece. This series (& all your previous artworks) is marvelous, I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the words, colours, feelings ... everything! ... coming together so beautifully. Thank you for creating such a lovely, inspirational space for us to relax in.
Thank you so much that's really kind! I'm really glad it's a calming to wind down to at the end of the day, that was one of my hopes for the videos ☀️ 💙
Thank you so much for this Orla! I found it very helpful. It's true I also feel like if I finish a piece too fast it's somehow of less value than something that took weeks or months to make 😅.
that's really great to hear :) and it's a funny ol thing eh 🙃 I had a brilliant reminder here in the comments from @angelawales7034 with the reminder that it takes a lifetime to create, not just the hours painting 🎨
How I deal with the speedy painting thoughts. ‘I’m this fast because of all the years of practice, that’s what a customer pays for’. Emotionally I tell myself ‘wow I was really present with myself today’, followed by ‘thank you for being present with me’ to my inner critic.
yesss! all the practice and years to get the skills in the first place. Thank you, I needed that reminder! That's a beautiful way to check in with yourself too 💙
Gosh! Your work is SO lovely ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you SO much for sharing your process. You are so informative and give so much of yourself 🙏 …. A lovely Artist 🤩
Really enjoyed your process, fascinating to see the different ways artists work, love the looseness and big changes you make, very dramatic! Thank you for sharing.
This video is like a masterclass in the aches and pains of any creative process. Thank you so much for making it and sharing it. I am going to share it with my film students, because I think there's a lot of value in what you've shared. Also your art is beautiful! 🤩
Thanks so much! aw that's so cool, love a multidisciplinary influence, I hope it helps them! I've just been learning more about film making & storytelling structures, to see if it'll help with my paintings - so much to learn from other disciplines :)
“OH Nooo!!!” I groaned out loud as you painted over your cool circle bobble thingies on a painting. And you did it again! Painted right over some color play I liked a lot. 🙄🤦♀️ guess you do practice what you preach. 😂 It was the right call by the way. The result was exciting. I often wonder where the line is between stopping too soon or pushing a work too far. Good lesson for me to see. Was there too many little bits? Needed more larger units of color?
hahahhaa I have this monologue in my head too 😂 often it's the only way to resolve something, by loosing a really lovely wee bit. It's such a balancing act for sure, and I don't think any artist gets it right all the time 🎨
Hi Orla! Wonderful video as always. Loving your collection. When you release these, will you have only original works, or prints also? Have a great week. x Nell.
Thank you, that's great to hear! 🎨 This one is Tesa Sensitive tape from the hardware store - it's my go-to for working with 200gsm papers and under (watercolour or cartridge) but with this 300gsm it's not sticking as well, so on the hunt for a new one :)
of course! I go into my materials in more depth in my sketchbook video, but here I'm using: acrylics, oil pastel, soft pastel, acrylic ink, pencil, watercolours (tubes and pans) ☀️
Hi everyone! I got excited about this painting collection developing and couldn’t wait to share, so here’s a bonus video this week! 💫

Brilliant work Orla , love these !
thanks so much! :)
When asked how long a painting took him (he was actually being sued over it!), Whistler famously said something along the lines of “my entire life”. ❤
Thank you; I needed this reminder! It's all in the practice, the looking, living, thinking 🌿
Hi Orla! Wonderful video as always. Loving your collection. When you release these, will you have only original works, or prints also?
Have a great week. x Nell.
Hey Nell! Thanks so much :) Oh that's a great question; I'm going to have a few from the collection available as prints, at around A4 & A3 sizes ☀️
@@OrlaStevens thank you 😊
Thanx for the video, it indeed gave me an “up”! What kind/brand of tape do you use on the paper?
Thank you, that's great to hear! 🎨 This one is Tesa Sensitive tape from the hardware store - it's my go-to for working with 200gsm papers and under (watercolour or cartridge) but with this 300gsm it's not sticking as well, so on the hunt for a new one :)
Loved this! Ps. Link to the print doesn't work for me -- maybe it's truncated in the notes?
Thank you! Oh good spot, and thanks for letting me know, should be fixed now :)
I would like to know what materials you are using. Watercolor pastels? Watercolor and acrylics? Thanks❤
of course! I go into my materials in more depth in my sketchbook video, but here I'm using: acrylics, oil pastel, soft pastel, acrylic ink, pencil, watercolours (tubes and pans) ☀️
what is your floor tarp?
it's a rug I picked up from IKEA - 100% cotton called 'Tiphede'
