Paul actually does have a very strong point about the media in that, when celebrities are asked certain questions and they are honest, they are often blamed for their answers and the way they are interpreted. Yet it's the media that chooses to disclose the information to the public. If they are so worried about the problems certain things said would cause, why publish it?

What Ringo says toward the end is absolutely true. All four have stated the same. The general public tends to think that The Beatles were high as Mr. Kite while recording. The fact is, the official tracks were performed with nothing stronger than English Tea in their system. They DID have sessions while stoned. None of those tracks were any good, but it DID inspire them with ideas for future (sober) recording sessions.
I also like what George had to say: "It was funny, because we had tried to get him to try it for 18 months." So Paul was the last to try it, but the first to get chewed a new arse for simply being honest with the press. -----> No good deed goes unpunished.

People confuse enhanced their creative process with drugs, when it simply called maturing. As they matured as musicians they expanded creatively. Drug use diminished an already brilliant mind. Yes. It's true drugs can be a catalyst for creation, but most of the time not for anything lasting

I received the Magical Mystery Tour album on cd as a lad...in third grade, and it impacted me in a way that no music had at that point.
"Why," I asked various grownups, "is it so weird?"
And they would simply say that (The Beatles) were on drugs.
This came around the time kids are starting to be warned about drugs. Through scare tactics and misinformation.
If drugs are as poisonous as we were led to believe, how could they inspire such wonderful music?
It would be many years before I would have any firsthand experience with drugs, but if you consider anything that changes the way you see the world, and the way you see yourself in relation to it to be a drug, then my first dose was this music that I love so very much.

They were all annoyed by his admission - it's just that in the clips here, it's only George who's said it. I'm going from Beatles biographers: Philip Norman, Kenneth Womack, Robert Rodriguez, they all say that the other Beatles were pissed off with McCartney. Other biographers, Mark Hertsgaard for one, comment that it's this announcement that begins to turn the UK authorities against the Beatles, whereas they'd always enjoyed protection as MBEs. So, once John went public with Yoko, that was the last straw - the infamous Sgt Pilcher's Drug Squad put John and then George in his sights. (In other words, planted dope in their homes and busted them for possession.)

Try drinking 12 litres of water in ten minutes or breathing in AIR 60 times in one minute. • @phildanus6962

@@kennethkeen4988 He did say that. He said it was "shit". Try having too much upper in your system and thinking you're playing great and then the next day after you've passed out from having an intense comedown you realize with everyone that what sounded great last night sounds terrible right now and you all are just like "aw fuck we gotta do that again that's terrible". "wisdom comes with age" so I guess your wisdom is "only smoke once a day kids you don't want to pass out like me" Who takes one puff of smoke a day then rides that high the entire day? Only those with no tolerance. If you were smoking weed daily you would realize that about after 3 days of getting blasted off of one hit you need to take another one to chase that last one because it's wearing off due to your body becoming used to the substance. Idk about you but If I were to smoke in the morning when I'm most fresh than I would be high for a solid hour depending on the potency before I get hungry, eat, and then find myself not to be high anymore. Maybe at this point you'll move onto other things but I would smoke again because honestly if you're going to ingest marijuana you are now adding an aspect to your lifestyle. Just like those who build a habit of smoking cigarettes just one cigarette will become not enough in about 5 minutes for those who chainsmoke. Why even chainsmoke? I don't know. Disgusting habit. But as you can see our lungs tend to become tolerant to smoke and once you build up enough resin in those lungs your receptors just won't pick it up as quick due to more receptors being burnt out than there are fresh ones which are just looking for something to bind to them. You breathe in and out probably about 60 or more times in a minute since 1 minute is 60 seconds and each second you are unknowingly thinking of getting your next breath causing us to just breathe like it's no problem due to muscle memory. If you were to take one big inhale of air you're now forcing more air in than your lungs usually do. That's manually inhaling and you will become light headed because you forced more oxygen in than your body usually does on it's own. Manually exhaling will cause you to become breatheless for a few seconds and holding your breathe will cause you to become dizzy. This is common sense. How are you not aware of common sense when making your invalid points trying to disagree with something Ringo straight out confirmed. Get over yourself if you were someone to be spreading wisdom it would be for prepubescent children. You know, so that they know not to puff that devil's lettuce more than once or they'll pass out.

@@phildanus6962 - nice to get such a 'long answer' and not filled with phrases learned from some wank. Sadly with this "YOU TUBE shite site" I had to load this page five times before it would let me comment - despite clicking on the "reply" of the mail they sent me. Is there anything in the world as fucked up as the us of fucking eh?
      Who cares?
So where do we start? Smoking poison (like cigarettes) is as fucked up as any one can be. But smoking grass once a day is only for those with willpower. The earlier in the day the better. You DO harm your body with smoking ANYTHING, so if you take it when you are fresh as you say - you will get the most from it and make least destruction to your cells.
So that is next? OK after an hour or three the high begins to wear off - so what? It goes down. And if you can't live with that and need to take more to keep the high then you are a fucked up useless person who is not able to enjoy the high without "needing" to maintain it. Then you are doing it just to be high and not to gain any insights or stirr your creative ability.
Sometimes I ramble on, not able to clearly make my point. But what is the point you are trying to say? Ringo said "Whenever we overdid our intake the music we made was shit". That is the point. If you drink too much water you die, if you take too much of anything then it fucks you up - end of story. SO each person has to know how much is 'good' for them. Many over indulge sometimes and that is no big deal when it is just grass we are talking about. When it is alcohol then you get physically sick and can't control yourself any more, your body expels the poison that alcohol is.
From the trillions of times people have smoked grass how many known death have been recorded? None. But how many millions of people are dead right now because they took the government sponcered death drug - alcohol? Many, many, millions.
So keep real and stop spreading stupid nonsense making the impression that smoking weed is not a good thing. For 99% of the times that weed is smoked a good experience happens. You can't say that for alcohol. But it makes you stupid and pathetic for a few hours and that is in the government's interest to promote - people doing crappy jobs need some sort of 'relief' to run to, to be able to get through their life. And it is taxed. And the long term problems are so slow to be apparent that most people accept it. It is part of the establishment norm. But only in the west. And most Americans don't even know that they are a small minority, believing themselves to be 'the standard'. Alcohol is a disgusting drug, addictive and disabilitating. But there is so much money invested in its use that it is now impossible to make it illegal in the west. It is illegal in places where people have common sense, but that is a fact probably not even KNOWN by the ignorant slobs who sit and watch TV every day of their lives while getting drunk.
Just my opinion. Who gives a shit about what I say? I am just saying what I believe. Nothing more. Don't believe a word you read ANYWHERE. Just believe the things that you are yourself ABLE TO PROVE. And the Beatles are good examples of being honest and straight. Paul was believing that smoking grass was in fact a bad thing and wrong and so the knowledge about them taking it should not be passed on to young people. Smoking is not a good thing. But if you can take just one puff and it lifts your spirit and takes you through your day and does not eventually become 20 puffs then tell others and teach them to learn how to strengthen their own will power. Don't go too far. Like don't do ANYTHING to excess. COMMON SENSE.

John and George had been pressuring him so much to take it that he just decided to "get it over with" and took it with Tara since he wasn't pressuring Paul about it like John and George had been.
What's *really* interesting however is that the *second* time Paul took LSD, it was with John, and it was the night that is mentioned in the video - the night John accidentally took LSD instead of the uppers he thought he was taking. Paul and John went to Paul's house in Cavendish when the session broke up and Paul took the LSD there in order to "keep John company in his misery." (Because John was having kind of a bad trip at that point IIRC).

The one thing you could never take away from them, is for four young guys who achieved a level of fame unheard of before their time, they handled it successfully. None of them were found dead between two groupies with a needle hanging from their arm, arrested for pissing on a statue or a monument, and lastly, consistently put out a quality product for 9 years.

    • @stevestruthers6180
      @stevestruthers6180 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

They all came from ordinary backgrounds, but realized that what they had, and were achieving was too valuable, too important to piss it all away by taking heavy drugs.
The fact that they were able to put out a quality product consistently should tell you that their drug use was likely fairly limited and sporadic.

I'm in agreement with Paul. He was asked a question. He answered it honestly and plainly. What the media do with that information and the effect their actions may have on society is on them and them alone, not Paul. All Paul did is answer a question honestly, and in reality nobody can criticise him for that. Can anybody criticise him for his little drug habit? That's another matter and one that'd stir up some debate, but I believe what a person chooses to do in their own time is their business.

No matter what you think of the Beatles, you have to admire their honesty. they were straight up no bullshit. They played the game but if you axed 'em a question, you were delivered an intelligent and honest answer. They weren't just musical geniuses, they were/are extremely intelligent. And on top of that, they had a lot to lose at that point - not like if someone asked Paul that question now when it would have zero impact on his career. The fallout could have had a devastating effect. Respect.

"Than" and "then" are two very difficult words for Americans. The root of all their problems is their inability to pronounce the words, hence they then write down what they hear and it makes no sense at all but they think everyone understands them.
That is funny and a great way to spot yanks as they are even worse at expressing themselves than foreigners who are in the process of learning English. Great to have an idiot you can kick and who really deserves the kicking. Is that politically correct enough for your SanFransickos?

Ringo was right at the end, when he said that the results were poorly bad, knowing that they had recorded their music on LSD, on the previous night before, which makes a lot of sense to me. In fact, how can you imagine the Beatles recording all their songs and all their albums being stoned most of the time? It even goes for all the other music bands of that same time period, unless you were Jim Morrison perhaps, or even still. The bottom line is that you cannot be coherent enough to create music, while you’re high on an LSD trip. Any artists will tell you that. Thank you for this magnificent presentation. Johnny, Montréal, Canada 🇨🇦

One of the appealing things about the Beatles (and there are many) is their refusal to take themselves too seriously. They were pretty honest about not touring when they felt that they no longer enjoyed it or touring was hurting their music. Same with drugs. I think they tried drugs to get to another level but were ultimately disillusioned. Paul was spot on about the press’ responsibility (and lack of it) .

  • @jasonpaulelder

When Paul is speaking, from 2:33 to 3:06, there's something about his parlance and gesture which sounds and appears more like the character of John to me. Other than the influence of Paul being around him so closely for so long, I'm thinking that the resemblance is also registering from all of the interviews that John had in either defending a concept (e.g.: the misunderstood statement about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus) or proclaiming an opposing belief (interviews throughout the Bed-Ins for Peace events).

Creative people express themselves in different ways. Drugs have always played a role in civilization, but not all creative people do drugs. I remember an artist interview where a painter was asked about about drugs. He responded by saying his high came from the process of making art, not a substance. I do appreciate the Beatles being honest about their life and pointing out media's role in glorifying drugs. The media decides trends, good and bad. It's important to say, creative people can create without drugs. Many do everyday everyday without drugs, just a thought.

I think what people didn't see is that this is what they were doing in thier spare time from the very start. Even in the earliest of years, they were opening up inhalers and picking the part they like to inhale. It was later on where things started getting harder to control because they formed habits that had to be taken care of. Some of em let certain habits run farther than others. Nevertheless, the moral is to really try and keep your personal and professional life separate unless you're ready to deal with an overbearing amount of issues that naturally come with it. Especially if you're of any amount of fame.
