三代ドヤ街としても知られる、東京の山谷を歩きます
山谷は、東京都台東区の北東部清川・日本堤・東浅草一帯の通称で、日雇い労働者向けの簡易宿泊所が集ま、荒川区にまたがるドヤ街として知られる地域です。
2000年代以降はバックパッカーを含む訪日外国人の安価な宿泊地としても人気を集めている。かつて220軒以上あった簡易宿泊所は、2020年代前半では約110軒に減り、新しいホテルやマンションの建設も進んでいる。
Yamaya is the common name for the Kiyokawa, Nihonzutsumi, and Higashi Asakusa area in the northeastern part of Tokyo's Taito Ward, an area known as a do-ya-machi, a collection of simple lodging for day laborers and straddling Arakawa Ward.
Since the 2000s, the area has also become popular as a place for inexpensive lodging for foreigners visiting Japan, including backpackers. The number of simple lodging houses, which once numbered more than 220, was reduced to about 110 in the early 2020s, and new hotels and condominiums are being built.
