I would like to do this as you can after 8pm but can you go both ways ? How come there is no car traffic 🤔 what’s the gradient going back up I’ll say about 7% , wonder if there is a Strava segment
At the current time the tunnel is closed to all traffic for new lighting to be installed, after 20.00 hrs but press a help button or go to a police office , and they will escort you through for free until further notice. Its a horrible ride with traffic in there especially on the gradients, and the fumes sap your breathing in traffic, Birkenhead side is steeper, i use the dock branch exit on the liverpool side as its less steep and a more gradual slope.
@@TheSadcyclist ok thanks for the info and reply , is there a charge or is it free ? I’m guessing free , I would like to go over to the birkenhead side and come straight back over
@@252ScoobyFrom merseytraels website under tunnels "Bicycles are not permitted through the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel. Through the Queensway (Birkenhead) Tunnel, they are not allowed between the hours of 6am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, 7am to 8pm on Saturday and 8am to 9pm on Sunday. Please note, the time limits during a Sunday are only operational between 1st April and 30th September inclusive." also, " Cyclists looking to use the Queensway Tunnel during the planned night time closures can still do however, this is under a Police escort only. They can report to the Police Information points at either end of the Tunnel, Old Haymarket or Kings Square, and call the Police Help Point or call 0300 3000 999. Mersey Tunnels Police will arrange safe passage through the Tunnel during the closure for essential travel i.e. travel to and from work and entry may be refused at certain times for safety reasons. Cyclists must not enter the Tunnel without the Police escort for safety management reasons" Hope the above helps, Birkenhead to Liverpool you zoom down the tunnel its weird and with no traffic so quiet except for a breeze
