  • This is my instrumental cover of the 1984 mega-hit 'Self-Control', by Raf (real name Raffaele Riefoli), taken from his album 'Raf", a.k.a. 'Self-Control' in some countries. The song was covered by Laura Branigan that same year. It was written by Giancarlo Bigazzi (1940-2012), Steve Piccolo and Raf.
My version was sequenced and recorded in Presonus' Studio One Professional DAW, using a Faderport 16 controller. The following instruments were used:
    - Korg Kronos: cymbal and hi-hats,
    - Presonus Impact XT: claps, LinnDrum kick and snare samples,
    - Walforf PPG Wave 3.V: most synths,
    - Roland Jupiter-X: synth bass and Simmons toms,
    - Roland Cloud Jupiter-8: pads and one of what I refer to as the 'Doom' sounds that occur just after the first chorus, on the second beat of the first bar of the instrumental break. It also plays the 'gurgly' sound on the intro and one side of the pseudo-guitar lead,
    - Arturia Synclavier V: second 'Doom' sound; other side of the pseudo-guitar lead sound,
    - Fender Stratocaster through a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal and into a Roland Jazz-Chorus 22 amp.
    - AKG P120 condenser microphone (for vocals).
    Effects:
    - Presonus stock effects: ProEQ, Limiter, Spectrum Meter, Multiband EQ and Beat Delay,
    - Arturia LX-24 (room and hall reverbs)
    - Arturia PLATE-140 reverb (plate reverb on backing vocals)
    - Arturia VCA-65 compressor (on the mixbus to 'glue' the mix)
    - UAD LA-2A compressor (on drum bus and synth bass)
    - Arturia JUN-6 chorus (on various tracks)
    - Arturia TUBE CULTURE distortion (on the mixbus for saturation)
    - Arturia OPAMP-21 distortion (on pseudo-guitar lead)
