I thought you would like that one Julius. Sorry to hear about the head, that may be what we call a migraine. Luckily I don't get them too often these days.

A nice looking pen Paul, and a great "How To" video mate.
    Cheers

Thanks Mike. Not really my thing to give instructions, but this felt quite natural on how I do it. Just hope it is of help to others.

Nice pen and easy to follow tut. I use same setup for putting my pens together but with a small hole in the wood in the chuck, stopped the tip from moving when compressing 👍

Thanks Heath. The pen soon makes a hole, it's quite surprising how much pressure it takes to push the parts together.

Hi great video. Never thought about using the lathe as a pen press. That's saved a few pounds .thanks 👍

Thanks Roger. Yes I've used the lathe right from my first pen, initially just holding a piece of wood up against the tail stock. I think unless you plan to run a production line of pen assembly the lathe is just as good. Plus if you are limited on space it all helps.

Paul, your pen turning instructions were given with absolutely great clarity. And what a beautiful pen you've produced. The overhead video is shown very well also...!

Thanks David. I'm glad it helps. Obviously I'm no expert but this is how I do them. The best way to learn and find where you have problems is when you do it yourself.

What a lovely pen Paul! It was also very well explained for me - a beginner. Thank you.

Thanks Pamela. I know what it's like when you start out. As many examples as possible before you make your own preferences.

    Paul
    Nice work as always.
    If you are interested??
    Method I use which provides a clear gloss finish is as follows;
My process - not the only way and quite possibly not the right way, but it is the process "I" use.
Selling pens or beautiful gifts, is "all about the finish"!
    1) Turn pen to desired effect
    2) Using paper towel - 3 coats of "thin" CA using accelerator between each coat. ** Wipe each coat with 3 swipes of the paper towel so it is an even coat.
    3) Using paper towel - 5 coats of "medium" CA using accelerator between each coat. ** Wipe each coat with 3 swipes of the paper towel so it is an even coat.
    4) Sand through the grits dry sanding 120 through 600 grit.
    5) Sand through the grits of wet sanding using micro-mesh pads 1500 through 12000.
    6) Buff using paper towel.
    7) Apply scratch coat (brand in North America is Nu Finish Scratch Doctor) paint scratch coat for automotive. Buff until shiny & dry.
    8) Apply high quality car wax (great for high gloss and added benefit of moisture protection) - I use "Turtle Wax"" -- buff until shiny and dry.
    9) Buff with soft cloth to shine. ** Soft cloth is great - but be careful - novice turners should use paper towel - as Captain Eddie says -- "Never Never, take a cloth to the lathe!!!
    10) Assemble pen.
Above is a little more time consuming, but provides a beautiful and hard shiny surface. The final coat of car wax also protects against moisture and oils from the skin.
Once you get used to the process, you will find that it is not overly time consuming - and well worth the effort. I have turned over 500 pens with this process, with no complaints and I always guarantee the finish!
I look forward to more of your videos.

Thank you Dennis. I will make a note of that. I've tried with the medium CA before but find that it leaves more ridges as it goes off too quick, especially with all the fixing spray about. I've recently got some sanding paper for a bowl sander up to possibly 10k grit so may look at using that. Other than that I have the 1200 wet / dry paper which I've been quite happy with.

Thanks Barry. I had thought about the pads before. They are not cheap and not sure how long they last.
