  • The Fred D. Brown Jr. Residence Hall opened in fall of 2014, and is a 250,000 square foot facility designed specifically for today's student. An inviting courtyard leads to the main entrance and will provide an exciting outdoor space for casual recreation, outdoor study time or a place to enjoy time with friends. This hall compliments the existing UT campus while also integrating state-of-the-art technology, sustainability and an environmentally-conscious living space that elevates student accommodations to a whole new level.

As an alum of Tennessee, I am always astounded at the inability of the administration to integrate new buildings with existing ones on campus. While this is better than some (A+A building and the HSS and McClung Tower, for example), it will be outdated in 10 years or so. The Haslam Building is a good example of blending. It resembles an old building from UT's past, yet has many of the "updates" that advances in technology have brought our way. Tennessee would have a beautiful campus if they would just take the time to consider who it will look compared to the buildings on The Hill.
