Where did that hose from the top of the oil cooler go? What's it for, since there are two coolant and two oil connections at the bottom already?

This is just awesome! Thank you so much for an unhurried, comprehensive, and thoughtful guide!
BTW, if you are already this far in, why did you not do the blessed Air Oil Separator that people state is #2 to fail after the water pump?
    Please continue this expert channel!

Since there is a danger of having coolant enter into the oil holes and contaminate the oil, which most likely happened when you see the coolant flowing out, which will require a full oil change.
It would be advisable to syphon the coolant out through the rubber hose before pulling the oil cooler out

Excellent video, I was wondering if this is similar to the process for the 996 turbo. Thanks for posting

If you have any chance of taking the engine out it will make things so much easier in almost every problem: IMS, RMS, AOS, oil cooler, chain tensioners and slides, thermostat, water pump, oil pump, starter, generator. The biggest problem with these engines in terms of service is taking the compressor off. The one bolt on the side is 75% of all trouble. Everything else is easy.

Believe us, Mike kept saying "let's just drop the engine".

Saw a glimpse of various valves for the SAI system under the driver side intake. Would be great to get a DIY on troubleshooting and replacing these. While you’re in there. 😉

I don't know which way is most difficult, going in this way requiring moving the compressor, power steering, etc or dropping the trans and going in from there.

Can you videos on 996 turbo parts replacement please. Especially the MAF and hose replacements that are probably needed now.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if it would be easier to drop the engine and work from there as well as other parts? Is this way faster?

Hi Jeff, Mike was adamant about doing that for many of the 996 videos we shot. The idea is that most people are not going to do that for a DIY at home. However, that being said, it was fairly accessible once the right bank intake manifold and AC compressor were out of the way. Of course, with an engine out, you can access and service the M96 easily!

Thanks for the video!!! Are these oil coolers actually worth it and effective? What kind of lower oil temperatures cooling performance can be expected from a kit like this? Thanks again🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Wouldn’t it be easier to just drop the engine to get access to the oil cooler. Seems like a heck of dismantling and you might as well get the engine out🤷‍♂️
