finally, the long-awaited running video is here! have fun running hehe💗 acties.kwf.nl/fundraisers/iriswellen if you want to donate to the dutch cancer society (kwf) and support me for the half marathon in Eindhoven 💌
Ive had too completely overhaul the way I approach exercise. Growing up you could never be seen trying. If you weren't good immediately there was just no point continuing. And as an awkward uncoordinated kid I just shunned sports, fitness and exercise because of other people. I basically took on this identity that I hated exercise. Now I try really hard to work out because its medicine for my depression and try to remember its not about pushing myself to oblivion every time I get on the mat. I live my the notion of consistent mediocrity now, just a consistent 60% effort for my brain. I began posting my workouts on my channel, so I'd have a visual to SEE with my own eyes, that I'm getting stronger, and better at yoga/pilates and exercise isnt just about being the best. I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% workouts and it adds up! Ive been thinking about running but felt like I wasn’t a runner LOL. Thinking this video is a sign :D
These tips are amazing, I’ve gone through phases of running even 5km and 10km but just like you I found it so hard! This makes me feel much better prepared to start again!
Thanks for the mention, Iris! Great video and channel 😃 Good luck for your half marathon! I've run Rotterdam marathon a couple of times and loved visiting your wonderful country.
Thank you so much for these tips! I started running last week but my motivation went down after the first 5 days, this video came at the right time for me and I’ll go back to regular running from tomorrow morning again🏃♂️
Thank you so much for these tips! 💞 I think my biggest issue with running and exercising regularly is mainly that I find it hard to make time for it... Since I'm a student, I often spend the whole day at my desk and don't find the time to run. Maybe you have some tips on how to balance work, exercise and relaxing? I'd be very grateful. :) PS: I saw your morning routine video a few months ago and loved your channel ever since. Thanks for what you're doing, it's so inspirational.💖
💘 such a lovely video and the edit! I also registered for the Amsterdam half-marathon, but I think I will drop it since I'm worried I might injure myself if I push it too hard. I felt exactly the same when you were describing in the beginning, I don't really think I'm improving anymore, so I need to change my strategy somehow. Good luck with the marathon!
@@iriswellen 🥰 it's in the middle of October, I started training twice a week and I got a small knee inflammation (and I have quite a big scary history with it). So I got scared and keep running only once a week. That's why I'm a bit afraid of running so far, because if you do smth wrong you definitely have a risk of an injury. so 8km might still be an idea and probably I'm gonna run the small distance at some point, or otherwise I need a proper trainer and a doctor to consult with hehe. Much love
This video is so useful, thank you, Iris♡ I also tried to be a runner when I lived in The Netherlands (the environment helped a lot too, The Netherlands is such a nice place to run in because it's not dangerous and there's usually multiple people running or biking around which kinda hyped me up honestly) and it was so fun!! I didn't really keep up with it because I'm very skinny and thought I wouldn't want to lose any more weight? But after this video I seriously consider taking up running again due to the other health benefits :) Maybe I'll do that when I move to a place where it isn't too dangerous to run on the street (where I live it's kinda dark on the street, many cars, random dogs etc and it's not too much of a pleasure) Thank you so much for sharing
I'm really interested in starting running so this video is really helpful 😃 I go to the gym as much as I can, but running has never been my thing 😅 thank you for such an informative video
Love this video! I'm currently reading the book: "No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness". It talks about how you should find a form of exercise that you really like in order to keep doing it regularly (in a nutshell). I have done running before but I always did it in order to lose weight and I completely hated it and quit. But I've been getting interested in trail running, which just seems amazing to me! However, cardio exercises still aren't a thing I really enjoy... but I would really like to enjoy running because I think it just looks so relaxing and cool. Any tips on how to make running enjoyable? What is the reason you really like running?
ah yes i would love to try trail running too! but it seems sooo much harder haha. i don't know why i love it so much.. it really helps me to not think for a while. when i listen to good music or a fun or interesting podcast i can just listen and go & not worry/overthink etc. so i think that's why i love it!
@@iriswellen maybe then it's key to take it slow building up your stamina, because the enjoyable part is that it's not hard for you (which it might still be for me because i'm not used to running)
