I am aware that many didn’t like the voiceovers in the original theatre cut (including Ridley Scott, I think), but I always liked them because they lent a further film noir feel to the story, like the Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe Hollywood classics. The audience could gain a little more insight into the detective character’s reasoning, as here. And you can have some great hard-boiled lines like: “Sushi. That’s what my ex-wife called me. Cold fish.”
