I didn't find RC until after he passed. Few men ever corrected me scripturally as vehemently as he did. Glad to hear he is still impacting the church beyond his days on earth.

I found Sproul while in a deep trial and backslide from a seeker sensitive church. The book Foundations changed my view of God and led to my repentance. Just a few short years before Sproul passed. I will thank him in Heaven if God so allows. Now I am in a true espository Church. Thankful to God for calling me.

I started to search for a new church (due to Covid, our church closed down) and watch many, many church service online videos, then I looked up the websites annd did my research. It took me 2 and a half years and found a sound, biblical church within my area. God's directon was very involved and once I looked at this one church, God, through the Holy Spirit, said "this one". Well, I attended in-person services and after a year, I am very happy with it. I am so glad I listened to God... (with past experience, I learned not to ignore God) 😊

I have two friends, both mature believers with a lot of Biblical knowledge that are reformed-oriented people who are ministering in small Campbellite churches. They have been welcomed and been given teaching ministries. Literally no one has objected, Rather, they have appreciated the knowledge and deep insights into the word these men have brought. So you might find yourself in a situation where what you share during a Bible study...the Holy Spirit uses to help people learn and see truths they didn't see before. If you are accepted and welcome, stay there, b/c God may be doing a work through you. But if they object or are constantly disagreeing or trying to silence you or even ask you to leave, then it's time to find another church.

Whenever I encounter tension between the reformed and non-reformed theology, I tend to favor the reformed opinion (even when it goes against my preexisting belief) because they always have the more carefully researched, more consistent biblical position. The opposition tends to lead with emotions and confined semantics rather than a holistic view of scripture.

    • @joeeng1
      @joeeng1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@LookingUpForThatBlessedHope I don't agree that John 3:16 necessarily opposes the Calvinist position. I agree that for you and me to come to Christ, we must believe. However, reformed theology peels the layers of the belief and how it actually comes to be John 6:44. IMO, we often oversimplify the word believe and its use in John 3:16, but ask yourself, what is the anatomy of belief in Christ? What is it that convicts you and compels you to believe a Truth that you may have once rejected and perhaps even ridiculed? Were we, in our fallen state, responsible for belief? It's by no power of our own that we are saved, it's truly only by the grace of God.

9:23 I completely agree that the Truth doesn’t need our personality or rhetoric.
My question is what is does it look like for our personalities to be left intact as we contextualize truth. My understanding of the doctrine of the inspiration of scripture is as follows “ though it reflects the personalities, the vocabularies, and the concerns of the human writers, was written under the supervision of God, and the authors were not writing under their own power”. Does this not stand today as God superintends our communication of his truth as we attempt to share or even teach it to others?

He created me and all the elect to be loved for eternity. How great a God we serve , honor, love and worship! Thank you Jesus. Oh and I don’t seek the gifts anymore but worship the Creator. Calvinism preachers must forget they hold to Calvinism when they preach to the unsaved and the saved, except when they are actually presenting Calvinism.
They are violating the 2 foundational doctrines, which are required for TULIP and a False Grace to be possible. Calvinism's preachers are unnecessary according to the precepts of Calvinism found in their foundational 2 doctrines and do violence to Calvinism doctrine. When a Calvinistic preacher is preaching on morality or giving the gospel they are claiming something noone has control over according to the 2 foundational doctrines. According to the 2 foundational doctrines of Calvinism, they should only be admonishing God. He is the only one deciding thoughts, words, and deeds.

@@milandejanovic7872 You ask, "is anyone here a doctor"... you then mention how a pastor "should" be addressed, according to your own belief supported by 2 verses you cherry picked to demonstrate this.
If a pastor is addressed as "*Dr.* such and such," they quite obviously went to school and earned certain degrees that would qualify that title. Which we should praise God for, that these men would take extra steps to devote themselves to such practices in order that they would be better able to teach what the Bible says.
Based on your line of reasoning, a person who went to school to become a teacher, should not be called a teacher as they would then somehow be stealing glory from Jesus. When simply, their title is "teacher".
According to scripture (Acts 20:28, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, Phillipians 1:1, ) , these men are "overseers"/ "elders" aka "Pastors". Whom are to be equipped with a sound understanding of scripture to faithfully teach it, according to 1 Timothy 3:2, "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, *able to teach*" and Titus 1:9, "He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he *may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it*.
Don't get so caught up in something as small as a title, friend. This is meaningless and not worth creating division over.

But you might find some common ground and you might find an individual or two that agrees that the group needs to return to 'whatever' it is. Or change some things. Feedback from members can help. Why is the term "new covenant" not found in the man-made confessions of Reformed Covenant Theology? The term is found in the Bible multiple times.
    New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary?
What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

I am really trying to come to grips with this right now. My mother-in-law lived through the Great Depression on dirt floors and had to raise her siblings at the age of 13 because her father died. She lost her first husband and lived the last 10 years of her life unable to care for herself after a severe stroke. She was one of the most loving, selfless, and kind people I’ve ever known and she died a committed Mormon. Did God put her here to suffer through this life only to face an eternity of punishment in Hell with no possibility of redemption? It’s an honest question. I believe in the triune God and that He is sovereign but I can’t quite wrap my head around this as it relates to election.

I am a “Calvinist” and came from the opposite position. My understanding is that all are under the curse of sin and God chose those who would be His in eternity past.no one is able to chose God because of the sin nature.
Sadly those who don’t know Christ, including Mormons, Galatians 1:8-9, aren’t saved.
It’s very sad to hear of your relative but a hard life in this life doesn’t buy us credit with God.
I have friends who lost their daughter, he had a stoke at 52 and now she has breast cancer and Parkinson’s, they don’t know Christ and their suffering in this life won’t atone in anyway for the next.
Wether God caused their pain or it happened because we live in a fallen, Christ rejecting world, I’m still not sure on, but I do tend towards that God elects us to salvation and the woes of this life are due to the fall and our sin, not God’s direct affliction.
As Christians we know that all things work for the good of those who love Him.
Luke 13 Jesus says that there were those who had tragedy in this life but weren’t worse sinners than others. David speaks in the Psalms about the wicked who prosper, I believe these verses show that God allows what comes from things in this life, good or bad, on the unsaved.

He may be from the best bible college or is associated with some of the top preacher / pastors or may even have a good understanding of the Word according to people associated with him. Jeremiah 7:31, 19:5, 32:35 are God speaking through His prophet saying Jews were doing what never even entered his mind. No ability to choose whether to follow God's will or run contrary to it is false.
Regeneration is clearly upon hearing and believing the Gospel of one's salvation according to Paul's explicit statement in Ephesians 1:13. Peter speaking to Cornelius in Acts 10, while he is speaking to Cornelius and friends and family, giving the gospel, they receive the Holy Spirit as Paul says in Ephesians 1:13.
Galatians 3:2 instantiates the same, hearing and receiving, faith coming by hearing per Romans 10:17 just as Abraham would hear, then believe.
Calvinism's 2 foundational doctrines 1) their definition of Sovereign, which teaches that Man does not have the ability to choose whether to follow God's will or run contrary to it and 2) their definition of Predeterminism, which teaches that God determined every single thought, word, and action that every single person will think, say, and do-including sinful thoughts, words, and actions, which, are refuted from Genesis to Revelation, are false.
Sovereign is the right word, but not Calvinism's "definition".
Calvinism's foundational doctrines make this conference look like an exercise of abject stupidity or absurdity.
I hope and pray for their eyes to be opened, this is unmitigated blindness.

(For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father." 66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you want to go away as well?" 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God." 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil." 71 He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him. (John 6:64-71, ESV)
