NOTIFICATION SQUAD: I still can't believe I was able to do this?! A huge thank you to everyone who cheered us on during the cycle! Despite the pain we went through, I think myself, Connor and the team agreed (aka. Shoutout to the crew for helping u guys make this all a reality, shoutout to Pete for being a goof and great job Connor & Chris for peddling through thick and thin for such an amazing cause!! This was an awesome video with some amazing footage (damn good drone shots) and commentary, telling the whole story yet very well complementing Connor's streams. What an achievement. Not only physically by you two, but also the whole planning, filming, preperation, taking care of supplies at the stops, etc. Shoutout to Ian and Paul for this, they did an awesome job and really felt like a competent 'pit crew', as it were. Also Pete for the moral support, positive peptalks and overall Golden Retriever vibes. Amazing achievement - I have no idea how you guys did it! Thank you for putting together all the best highlights in a cohesive story so we can enjoy the beautiful scenery, good food, and tricky weather situations with you.
Chris, and Connor, thank you so much for donating to that cause. I have severe Crohn’s disease and am about to have surgery in order to remove a part of my intestines/colon. I hope that research and development continues to save others from immune deficiency’s like mine and others so they don’t have to suffer the way I have. You have been a massive motivator of mine over the last few years and has helped me keep going watching your videos. I hope once I recover from surgery, get back to work and get more saved up, I can come to Japan and explore all these beautiful places you guys have visited. Cheers mate!
Connor had such an impressive mobile setup, I was truly blown away that such a thing was even possible, even in 2022. While watching parts of the stream, I thought "how could Chris possibly film in these conditions while on the road and on stream for most of it". Yet once again the Abroad in Japan team has achieved high quality footage, excellent transitions and editing, and great moments. Well done, Chris and congratulations on completing such a difficult challenge
"Iron Mouse, Connor's wife and Twitch streamer." This cracked me up, especially after Chris being called Connor's boyfriend for ages. Watched the vods over on Connor's streaming channel. This video really completes the experience. You gentlemen were absolutely mad for undertaking the journey but you should be proud of the accomplishment.
You two are amazing and as a 54 year old guy who has always wanted to see Japan, I am finally booking a trip and I will use everything I have learned from both of you to plan it. Thank you for sharing your lives, the laughs, the experience and culture. As a guy with an immune deficiency disease (which was a surprise seeing in this video) I am even more motivated. God bless you both.
As an amateur cyclist and someone with an absolute terrible immune system, what you two have done, and what everyone that supported the charity has done, is literal bonkers, congrats on finishing the ride and hitting this incredible milestone.
This was such a blast to watch live! You, Connor, Pete, and the crew absolutely _killed_ it. There aren’t enough kudos in the world to show the proper appreciation for your Herculean efforts.
Pete's motivational words made me laugh out loud multiple times. Every time he showed up in the video you knew what was coming, and it never disappointed!
As a person who used to do 50 km (actually 32 miles for me) every other day, I have to raise my cap to you gents. Doing this without intensive prep makes it INCREDIBLY admirable. Seeing the section with you guys riding on dirt roads on road bikes made my balls hurt in empathy, because that is MISERABLE. Also, amazing job on the editing and scoring as always Chris. Finally, Pete was SUCH a great addition to the crew for this trip, he cracked me the eff up (also, I didn't know the he and I are the same age!).
Oddly, with cycling, no prep is often as good as a lot of conditioning. Most moderately able people can cycle 100km in a day. But not many people can sit in a bike saddle for a whole day. If you are really fit, you ride faster and your time in the saddle is diminished. If you are moderately fit it is really about how tough your butt is. Half hearted training can leave you going into the ride saddle sore without actually increasing your ability to ride fast. If you are doing some sort of binge ride like this, general cardio/fitness using the exercise you are most used to is better prep than road miles.
I can't believe you managed to condense 8 days down into 40 minutes, truly remarkable. I would have watched 3+ hours of Chris-perspective footage from this journey. I hope you do something similar again, absolutely incredible how much was raised for such a good cause.
Re-watching this about 6 months after i stopped drinking normal Cola all day and started cycling. I reached my goal to cycle to a neighboring town which is 45KM away and back home again. I am immensely proud of that - but also seeing you do that for 7 days in a row shows me that i still have a long way to go. This just gives me motivation to continue cycling and become fitter. Thinking about doing a big tour like this next summer
"Make sure your bike seat is the correct height, or you will suffer for it." This is so true, it's one of my pet peeves when I see other people with their seats too low. That and tires that are nearly deflated. Awesome to see Chris back out biking - fantastic photography and editing as always! This really brings out the beauty of Hokkaido in a way that's hard to appreciate from a car.
it also helps if you buy a bike actually MEANT for day to day use. a dutch omafiets is one such bike for example.. trust me. it saves a lot on your lower back since you're seated much more upright.
@@rachelcookie321 Basically you want your leg fully extended, but not locked 100%, on the bottom pedal when when you're sitting. A lot of people adjust their seat height based on where they are standing on the ground, which means their legs never fully extend while cycling, which tires out your legs faster and puts more stain on your knees.
This is not just a video, this is a most powerful inspiration and motivation I've seen in a long while. And to top it off you contributed a great deal in this world to charity with it. I love cycling and am visiting Japan next year and am thinking of cycling across the country myself, seeing how incredibly beautiful it is. And at the same time doing something really meaningful in my life in contrast of constant work that I've been grinding to succeed in the past 5 years. A chapter of life to remember for sure. Thank you Chris and Connor!
The quality of these videos never cease to amaze me man. The beautiful shots you get to the sound and narration it's truly incredible, it looks like a show that should be on the BBC or something...
@fck peace that is a natural side effect of all Abroad in Japan videos honestly. For this reason I always eat either alongside this video or before it.
I really hope next year there's a part 2, where all the boys go for a cycle to raise more for charity! Fantastic job and amazing editing and storytelling as always.
These videos are an amazing combitnation of sites, sounds, and hilarious events. The skill thrust upon the raw film deserves recognition. Thank you for your hard work!
Was lucky to see the majority of this live. Massive respect to these two Brits conquering hills, rains, lorries and TTS. The Van gang turned from immaculate support crew to legendary with the addition of everyone's favorite Golden Retriever. Besides ginormous support of chat and their wallets, Mel and others made this further heartwarming PS: how did you condense THIS to 40min? Mind-boggling
I think it's a clever approach to focus this video more around the story, scenery, and overall challenge and not show to much of the cyling itself. Leaving room for Connor's VODS to fill the gaps for those who want more.
I couldn't stop smiling watching this brilliant recap of what went down during those 8 days. It was truly a memorable experience watching this happen live from start to end, interacting with other fans in chat, going on Pete's POV stream (PremierTwo) simultaneously to hang out with the Van Gang, cheering on Chris and Connor during the trickiest moments on the journey and more than anything - being able to be part of the amazing fundraiser for the IDF. Thank you so much guys for this! 😊
The two bits from the stream that seem to be missing in this (gorgeous, exquisitely edited) video recap are all the TTS Tomfoolery from the viewers and other Twitch personalities, and the INHUMAN amount of McDonalds Connor consumed at the end there. I was watching that stream and the amount this man put inside of him made ME feel sick. But it was a hell of a ride.
Did a cycling trip like this 20 years ago. Started in Wakkanai by going up to SOYA for the Northern most point in Japan and the monument for the Korean Airlines plane shot down by the Russians in 1983. Headed south mostly along the Japan Sea coast stopped in Sapporo, Esashi and Hakodate and bunch of places I can't remember. Harddest thing I'll probably ever do. Good job boys!
Commented on one of the stream vids, but as someone with one of the rare conditions that the IDF covers, you guys doing this made me cry. These conditions are so rare and don't get awareness and loads of funding. I just want you to realize how much this meant for people like myself.
It was a grueling week for cyclists, van people and viewers... and yet, the first day without hearing Connor complaining about something (wind, rain, cold, hills, Chris) was surprisingly sad. I think everyone was involved in something great. Glad to at last hear Chris's version of the ride. For so long, he was 'the guy in front' so we heard so few of his thoughts. I almost did not recognise the island of uneven-weed-filled cycle lanes and pachinko parlours; that one person who tracked you all down to bring snacks, was so kind! Pete touching some grass, checking Connor was not asleep in the toilet, the wedding chapel pizza and pasta... so many memories that you guys shared with us. Kudos to everyone. ❤
100% respect, lads. As someone born with a primary immunodeficiency, raising money for a really, really worthwhile cause. And not just because it Kay at some point be beneficial to me. Walking into hospitals for immune replacement therapy, and seeing little kids hooked up to drips, fighting constant infections (I can have a pneumonia and not even know it, let alone cough), it's for those tiny sick kids that you're busting your arses on bikes. Bloody good work! 11/10!!
This was an unforgettable experience not just for you two, but for all of us who had the pleasure of interacting and experiencing it live through Connor's stream. From the bottom of my heart, and I think I speak for most people when I say this, *thank you*
Huge respect for you both! I was actually emotional watching this and I have an immune deficiency disorder so it really means a lot ❤ so proud of you Chris and Connor ❤
Chris, your ability to tell a story is unmatched. How are you making me tear up during a cycling special! Incredibly proud of you and Connor, as well as the entire production team. Oh and of course, how can I forget about our American motivational speaker Pete!
the editing and cinematogrphy of this video is PHENOMENAL! I love cycling and I would sell my limbs to be able to cycle across japan, looks so fun!I live in an extremely hilly city so the part where you guys go up the hill in pain, i felt that. Absolutely treacherous.
Perhaps this is one of the best edited videos you've posted yet, between filmic scenery and comedic relief, this episode is pure GOLD, keep up the amazing work Chris!
Storytelling, entertainment, personality, quality & not to mention affable. Watching Chris upload and seemingly push the bar higher each time is always a treat. You inspire me and surely countless others Chris and Conner! (Pete too) keep it up! Also hats off to the editors and crew that could make something like this happen woohoo!
Once again I am blown away at the quality of the cinematography. If anyone else had filmed a bike ride across a country, I wouldn't watch it. But I knew as soon as I got the notification that it would be a masterpiece, and I wasn't wrong. Amazing work!
Woah, what a monstrosity, this video, 40 minutes long! I think this is the second longest video on your channel after Natsuki: The Movie, must've been a hell of an editing job! I saw you guys cycling through Connor's streams and I must formally congratulate both of you for completing the cycling marathon as well as raising such a large amount of money for a good cause! Here's to you achieving your goal of getting fit by the end of the year, cheers!
American Pete is so funny I’m glad he was able to join in. All of his scenes in the video made me laugh. Mad respect to you and Connor for completing that cycle. That’s amazing. This is one of my favorite abroad in Japan videos
After watching the 8 day vods its cool to see things from a Chris perspective. You were an amazing presence on Connors stream throughout but you have your own unique way of presenting things and do it really well and make it entertaining too.
This was amazing watching it live on Connor's twitch channel. Huge congrats for doing this Chris, and a double huge congrats for you and Connor raising over $300,000 for an amazing charity. You both are an inspiration.
As always, the cinematography and editing are outstanding! The dolly zoom effect (presumably) from the drone at 12:39 was a particularly awesome shot. Congrats Chris and Connor for this incredible feat!
I've been watching the VODs over on Connor's channel as soothing background noise for the last month, and I'm so happy to have your cinematic version to add to the playlist! Well done gents and Van Gang! You should definitely do it again in the new year!
Watched a lot of this live. It was a wild ride, from wholesome fans saying high, to Pete's amazing encouragement, to the amount of money you guys raised, it's amazing. Love the editing of this too though! Such a nice challenge with wholesome results all around.
I'm around 6 minutes into the video and I'm wondering did the GoPro cause any trouble for you in your trip? I've had issues for Go Pro overheating and switching off when I don't want it to. I know you're not really meant to record for more than 10 to 20 minutes at a time but sometimes when I turn off the GoPro that's when the action happens 😔
@@AbroadinJapan good to hear it's working well for you 😁 Really enjoying the video. Feels like a BBC travel show in quailty with the drone shots, B role and on screen graphics.
You can tell he’s British because of how creative he is and how good he is at complaining and making things sounds miserable it’s almost like done it his entire life
I still can't believe they managed to do this. Huge respect for them, that was incredible in every way. Also Pete as usual was a great addition to the journey. All in all, well done.
Your videos made me finally repair and ride my bike again after a three year break. I forgot how much fun it was and hopefully I'll get a little bit fitter, too. Thank you very much, I needed that :)
This video was perfect, the cinematography, the music, the commentary, the scenery and Pete made this one of my favorite videos, thank you to everyone who helped during those 8 days, it was such a spectacle video
you guys are absolute legends for doing this. not only did you guys finish the trip, but everything went to one hell of a charitable cause (i am still suffering from an autoimmune condition too, so i still cannot thank you guys enough) and i remember Connor mentioning on a separate stream that you guys spent your own money for food, lodging, and supplies. like, whatttt...i love you guys. i just wish i could have donated some more to support this wonderful adventure.
I love how you set a goal in mind and actually do your best to achieve it. Best part of it all is that you actually succeed. You're inspiring so many people to work to better themselves, man.
This video is 40 minutes long, but having watched all of the streams it felt so condensed and fast-paced and engaging, especially after having seen everything that was cut. Awesome job!
Was there when this started up till the very day that it ended. It seriously made my entire week for that time. Waking up every morning for work to see you guys also getting ready to face the challenge each day was an odd sort of motivational boost as I set out to work too. The text to speech was either hilarious or wholesome throughout. It was amazing to see the generosity of people go above and beyond the charity goal for each day. Even, I, with what little I could afford was inspired to give. Seriously, big props to you guys for not just doing this for content or for yourselves but for a bigger cause as well. I'm definitely down for another cross-country journey again!
I was able to watch almost every stream from start to finish (yay 16 hour time difference) and I was so inspired and motivated. I loved every second of it and am so proud of you guys for working so hard! Ian and Paul were amazing, and the editing on this is fantastic. Pete was just the icing on the cake and he made those last few days so energetic! Well done everyone, loved this video and sure hope you all tackle another cycle! Didn't Connor say Aomori to Tokyo was about 700 km? ;)
Was looking forward to this vid releasing and definitely didn’t disappoint editing was incredible and those drone shots turned out spectacular huge congrats to both of you and the van gang for pulling off such a phenomenal feat the whole event has actually inspired me to take up cycling again keep up the amazing content
I love this video. For the past year I've been stuck in the house, rarely able to leave due to taking care of someone home with hospice. To say it's been a rough year would be an understatement, but it's videos like this, dreaming of a day I'll be able to do something similar again that helps keep me going.
Top 10 trending! Let's go! Going from videos in a 2*2cm apartment to movie quality charity video. Thank you for letting us join you throughout this whole journey.
Good thing you guys had each other.. If either of you were alone it would have been much harder to do, especially the harder uphill bits. Having someone there gives you that extra bit of motivation to keep going.
Honestly proud of both you & Connor for something most of us would dread to do. Not easy task and you both did exceptionally well at it. Can't wait to see what is to come, because it very well may be the best is yet to come.
Van Gang hype. Been really excited for this video, was amazing watching this unfurl live both from Connors and Pete's stream. Fantastic work gentlemen, you did some amazing work.

I am immensely proud of that - but also seeing you do that for 7 days in a row shows me that i still have a long way to go. This just gives me motivation to continue cycling and become fitter. Thinking about doing a big tour like this next summer
My god those drone shots, Paul did an absolutely great work and he hardly get any recognition. My man Paul.
How do you work out what height to put it?
Yeah chris had the choice of having pain in his legs or in his back :D
@@rachelcookie321 Basically you want your leg fully extended, but not locked 100%, on the bottom pedal when when you're sitting. A lot of people adjust their seat height based on where they are standing on the ground, which means their legs never fully extend while cycling, which tires out your legs faster and puts more stain on your knees.
@@NLuck-eh5cd i see, thanks for the tip. I’ll adjust my bike before I ride it next.
the drone shots are absolutely beautiful, Paul killed it. The resident pilot of the Van Gang STRIKES AGAIN!
300.000 dollars raised for charity, that's amazing! Great job my man. And getting healthy at the same time, good on ya mate.
The beautiful shots you get to the sound and narration it's truly incredible, it looks like a show that should be on the BBC or something...
the editing in this is GORGEOUS
Agreed, definitely well-worth the over a month of effort put into it!
the Ronald Mc Ronald wink was 🤌🤌
The path splitting in half to reveal where they are on the map was so elegantly done 😃
random but ok
@fck peace that is a natural side effect of all Abroad in Japan videos honestly. For this reason I always eat either alongside this video or before it.
the drone shots were totally worth it, that scenery was gorgeous
I really hope next year there's a part 2, where all the boys go for a cycle to raise more for charity!
Fantastic job and amazing editing and storytelling as always.
Hell yeah, that would be awesome.
Besides ginormous support of chat and their wallets, Mel and others made this further heartwarming
PS: how did you condense THIS to 40min? Mind-boggling
For real! This was a week’s worth of footage *from several cameras* and it’s less than an hour long yet concise snd entertaining-nicely done, Chris!
Well done Pete .. you did so much for all of us... you are a true hero and an inspiration to every man woman and child
Well done men, Pete couldn't have done this without you!
The editing is absolutely amazing on this! Great job! I do believe Chris gave this edit to Paul. You did an amazing job, Paul or whoever edited this!
@@TwodeeTwodimensional ah sorry, will delete my comment as I was wrong
@@TwodeeTwodimensional No wonder it seemed different than usual. Felt more...kawaii XD
Watched the whole Cycle on Connors Twitch and it was a truly amazing journey! Thanks for taking us with you through Hokkaido~
You, Connor, Pete + the van gang are LEGENDS. Love to see it.
I absolutely love the editor parting the highways like a moses to show yall's progress
Commented on one of the stream vids, but as someone with one of the rare conditions that the IDF covers, you guys doing this made me cry. These conditions are so rare and don't get awareness and loads of funding. I just want you to realize how much this meant for people like myself.
Best of luck to ya Friend. Stay strong and happy.
I’m so proud that I can call these guys my favorite content creators. What an incredible achievement
the editing and cinematogrphy of this video is PHENOMENAL!
Genuinely incredible job mate. This will be an experience you look back on very fondly.
It's crazy that each day is edited down to 5 minutes when they pretty much averaged 8 hrs a day cycling.
Chris...you really knock it out of the park with the cinematography, especially the coloring is amazing in this episode. Just incredible!
Surprisingly no issues with the GoPro 10! Had plenty with previous models though!
@@AbroadinJapan good to hear it's working well for you 😁
Really enjoying the video. Feels like a BBC travel show in quailty with the drone shots, B role and on screen graphics.
You can tell he’s British because of how creative he is and how good he is at complaining and making things sounds miserable it’s almost like done it his entire life
Connor or Chris? (A simple yes will suffice 😂)
@@peter.24.7 yes 😂😂
Complaining like an entitled British person is practically his entire brand.
@@buggiemara4902 entitled you say? OK.
only an american would write this comment
This is the travel vlog i was unknowingly waiting for. Didn't expect it to come from this channel. Go Dude!!
I know right? Accidentally stumbling in this channel and group of friends was like a huge treasure
I still can't believe they managed to do this. Huge respect for them, that was incredible in every way. Also Pete as usual was a great addition to the journey.
All in all, well done.
the videography, editing and the droneshots are amazing
Your videos made me finally repair and ride my bike again after a three year break. I forgot how much fun it was and hopefully I'll get a little bit fitter, too. Thank you very much, I needed that :)
This video was perfect, the cinematography, the music, the commentary, the scenery and Pete made this one of my favorite videos, thank you to everyone who helped during those 8 days, it was such a spectacle video
The editing is just .. phenomenal, really enjoying this
you guys are absolute legends for doing this. not only did you guys finish the trip, but everything went to one hell of a charitable cause (i am still suffering from an autoimmune condition too, so i still cannot thank you guys enough) and i remember Connor mentioning on a separate stream that you guys spent your own money for food, lodging, and supplies. like, whatttt...i love you guys. i just wish i could have donated some more to support this wonderful adventure.
I love how you set a goal in mind and actually do your best to achieve it. Best part of it all is that you actually succeed. You're inspiring so many people to work to better themselves, man.
The drone footage is really stunning. Amazing video. Respect to Chris and Connor for doing such a long trip for charity.
This channel is so underrated. Proper documentary. Needs a TV show
Geez the production quality is so good, props to everyone involved 👏
This video is 40 minutes long, but having watched all of the streams it felt so condensed and fast-paced and engaging, especially after having seen everything that was cut. Awesome job!
The part with the walkie talkies and Chris saying Hans Gruber’s lines was gold. 🙌🏼 “Where are my detonators?!” 😂😂😂
Didn't Connor say Aomori to Tokyo was about 700 km? ;)
The cinematography in this video is astounding! A true masterpiece.
Big props to y'all to do this, this is probably my favorite Wacky Weekend episode ever
1:25 "Connor's wife"
oh yeah, chris is "abroad" with the joke
now we wait for our little gremlin's response
Chris. That part where you used the road lines to seperate the center the of the screen was genius editing
I love the new editing style! 😭❤️ Definitely worth waiting a month for this. Amazing job, Chris!
"Connors wife" oh lord that has me dying
The editing on this video is insane, good work raising all the money for charity!!!
Was looking forward to this vid releasing and definitely didn’t disappoint editing was incredible and those drone shots turned out spectacular huge congrats to both of you and the van gang for pulling off such a phenomenal feat the whole event has actually inspired me to take up cycling again keep up the amazing content
Charity work, an unhealthy amount of a healthy activity, and another top of the line video. You are always at the top of your game Chris, keep it up
I love this video.
I really love Chris and Connor tandem. Im hoping to see more collab vids for these affable dudes.
