This is exactly what I'm up to at the moment and I have bought some 2S boards very much like yours, I have done the same tests as you and come to precisely the same conclusions too ! Me and a friend often take walks and kept seeing 'disposable Vapes' every where just chucked in the fields and hedge rows (Very annoying ! ) anyhow I have collected them and now have a pile of cells to look at and so far the cells have been fine. Their capacity's are what they claim to be and vary from 360mA to1500mA so I'm helping to tidy up and making battery packs out of them like you are and these cheap little boards are a godsend ...cheers !
There are also DW02 and DW03 ics. The newer ones have integrated mosfets. The DW01 also has OC protection. It monitors the voltage drop across the mosfets so can change depending on the mosfets you use. These ics are very common and used in a lot of products.

Here in Canada I never see those disposable vapes. I guess that's both good and bad.

Are you familiar with the TP4056?
I know its a charge controller, but I'd have to look up the data sheet on it. It might make a nice compliment to this module.
