  • Harold Clayton became famous for his delicate flower still lifes. Imagine the effect these incredible flowers had on viewers in his time!
Harold Clayton was born in London in 1896 and educated at Harrow School and Hornsey College of Art. He then went on to study at St Martin's School of Art in London.
Clayton painted very beautiful, complex, colorful still lifes in rich vases. Viewers are still amazed by this incredible transparency, fragility and delicacy of flowers. Every petal, leaf is filled with life. Every vein, every pistil and stamen of these flowers is visible... He created very sunny, joyful works of art that reflected the beauty and incredible variety of flowers, their bright colors and shapes.
Harold Clayton was one of the representatives of the Arts and Crafts movement, which sought to revive traditional values. His flower still lifes became incredibly popular and were sold all over the world. Flowers in the paintings of the English artist impress even modern, very sophisticated viewers with their beauty and tenderness. It's hard to believe, but these paintings are more than a hundred years old.
