Back alley whispers say that this wave was supposed to be a target exclusive wave, but they pulled out during production, so Todd just put them on his site. Also, they have a limited run of 5k or 3k, he shoulda marketed that aspect of it, but they didn’t
Remember Todd had already started hiking the price of figures with the Collector's Edition wave which included their platinum chase variants. Action Comics #1 Superman, Hawkman, Sinestro, Alan Scott Green Lantern, Abyss, Green Lantern Batman, Firestorm, and Captain Carrot are all $29.99 in the stores. These figures came out before the $40 price hike. Also, since the Monitor BAF wave isn't sold in retail stores, then McFarlane doesn't need to pay stores to carry those figures. So if the figures are sold directly from in house, why raise the price more than the Collectors Edition sold in stores? Todd already tested the waters with the price hike, he knows that some collectors/scalpers will buy out anything he puts out.
Exactly this! At the least the collector editions are better value. But to charge even more for what is just a normal baf wave with no middle man costs feels shitty
One thing I didn’t see mentioned in your video was that Warner Bros. just released the crisis on infinite earths, animated movie volume one of three I would think these figures would sell it retail, because Warner is pushing this new movie on physical media, digital download, and next month on the max streaming service so even though crisis on infinite earths is an older story it is going to be getting some newer fans with this new movie being released. I also wanted to tell you I really enjoy watching your channel. I just discovered it recently and I’m a big fan.
McF’s 89 Batmobile was definitely $75 on day one, the Flash version was $60. All the motorcycle-sized vehicles have been $30. This Batpod feels pretty exploitative at $70 even with a figure (though I did buy it).
Knightfall Nightwing isn't exclusive. I got mine from BBTS. Regarding the topic, I believe McFarlane's statement was basically "we're charging you for the BAF piece now instead of giving it to you for free". Their "you're getting 5 figures for $135" or whatever is basically that. And if you only want one or two of the figures? Suck it, Todd does what he wants.
Thanks I couldn't remember Which is ridiculous. No one does that. Baf is supposed to be added value not bloat for costs. Definitely doesn't jack up the cost $15. And yes he always has
In defense of TVC collectors……that axe woves isn’t even wearing the same armor as the picture on the card. This was a cheap repack being pitched as an update to his season 3 look which it clearly is not.
Its not a deal breaker because I did not want those figures. Their kind of niche characters like psycho pirate and retailers are stuffed with old product they can't move, so production numbers could be low. This is a direct to consumer product in a way. Which often has a higher pricepoint, and they did offer a discount if you bought the whole set. The DC super powers they just launched preorders for are still such a good value. Blue Beetle, Brainiac, Killowogg and vehicles.
But here's the thing. The discount to buy the set still is above what these normally retail at lol And niche character selection isn't the consumers fault. There's no up roar for psycho pirate 😂 Kid flash and spectre were solid choices but to put the burden of unpopular characters on to the consumer is so shitty
I think collecting af has just gotten out of hand and isn't worth it anymore. All these companies are pushing for $50 starting price points, and I'm not for it. Idk about the rest of the collectors, but I'm out. There's no way to afford doing this and being able to pay bills and eat.
I'm getting tired of people steady taking up for Todd ,, he's price gouging, he's doing it because ,Todd is about numbers like you said,Todd is doing this because he's seeing the secondary market,,How Scalpers are making a killing on he's figures if they can do it,,I Todd can do it too ,it's all about money,,,an just wait once these 40 Dollar figures hit the hands of these SCALPERS watch how high their going too be,,,,plus collectors are going too buy,,,then watch what Todd is going too do next ,prices are going too rise,,,so what are the people who always taking up for Todd going too say then ?
Todd can and will always do whatever he wants to do...that much is clear. I personally think it's borderline exploitative to hold off on doing a simple classic Wonder Woman for years only to finally do one at the $30 price point. To me it speaks more to how he/they view the fans. Less, "I'm going to make a great WW that will blow their minds" and more, "Here she is suckers!". So personally, I've decided to keep the handful of McFarlane Multiverse figures I have and stop buying them going forward. The price vs quality just doesn't add up for me. I've just started going into Mafex for DC figures and that's probably where I'll stay. It's not as costly for me because I don't feel the need to collect them all...but just getting 1 or 2 Mafex figs a year that are fantastic makes much more sense to me than getting around 5 McFarlane figs that are okay at best.
So hear me out… Regarding the crisis wave. I have no evidence to this. It’s all speculation but I am in the camp that thinks this was supposed to be the 4th year long Target BAF wave. It’s been done for the last 3 years but curiously there was not one solicited for this year. I think McFarlane planned this wave for an expected purchase order amount and target backed out at a point where they were too far into the production process to just cancel the wave. No clue if they just went to it being MTS exclusive or if they shopped it around to other retailers who also rejected it. Either way the cut production to a lower number that MTS could handle and jacked up the price to make up for the loss because they were expecting a much higher purchase order for the wave. Doesn’t justify it but I truly believe that is what happened and why it’s a one off.
That is very possible. The only weird thing to me is that a lot of the baf lines have been available elsewhere. Why not just open fan channel or something?
@@ModernToyfare 100% agree there. I feel like there could have been other avenues to recoup costs if it was the case of a retailer backing out. There had to be some other option than to just pass the cost onto customers.
@@mommasaidpopyouout6302 yeah. Thats why I still think the line is not doing as well at retail and Todd is testing the waters of how much he can sell shit for straight from the tap.
Nice video, my man 👏👏💖💖
Thanks man!
@@ModernToyfare anytime man 😁💖
I believe this is the time to speak up about it. Its this kind of feedback that willl alert the toy gods to ease up on the pricing.
The only wait to prove any points is with our wallets unfortunately. No matter how loud everyone is, if shit still sells they have no reason to listen

I mean there are so many other options though. Fan channel that shit
Ahhh that makes a lot of sense…. Maybe a planned exclusive wave that got pulled… hence the extra $15???

@ModernToyfare it's got greedy written all over it .

I thought the exact same thing. Very overpriced compared to other offerings
Exactly! Like the math isn't there at all. Even with the cost of a figure that's $50 not $70.

Bane is the biggest of his deluxe which I think is funny. Everything is out of scale
