Did you have to add extra oil to the engine after installing oil cooler ? To make up for the amount traveling through the cooler boss just wanting to know if to add a little more oil then it takes.
A&M Offroad I was just thinking, a small fan (maybe a computer fan?) along with the cooler would be really trick! Thanks for the early morning inspiration.
Hey man! I have a few questions. 1: do you run any big bore or stroker and camshaft? Because mine is now 440 with a stroker kit which makes it 460 and the top end is pretty noisy (prolly the valves) and I think that yours is not doing any weird noise. Do you think these type of tie rap would hold riding trails ? Btw thanks for the video
@@taywizz8 likely have to bump up the pilot jet one size and the main a couple. Jetting is difficult to just throw out a number because elevation, temperature, intake/exhaust modifications all effect it.
So how much oil you think that oil cooler keeps in it I'm just saying if it were me I would have put it upside down so that gravity could feed the oil back to the tank Maybe instead of having to add oil because you're going to lose it what a half a quart in cooler or less
It likely doesn’t hold much, upside down could work as well. There are all kinds of ways to do this, I just used what I had and it seems to work ok. Let me know if you come up with a great setup.
If you guys do this, go ahead and do yourselves a favor and spend and extra $40 to $60 on Amazon ordering a 4” Spal Puller fan and install it Behind your stock oil cooler ( on the engine side, not the front of the bike ) and run it to a $7 on/off switch. The reason why I say to hook it to the stock cooler and not the extra added cooler, is because where the stock cooler is mounted, the puller fan is in an optimal place to draw air through the cooler, and then over the engine since it’s right behind it. I’ll try to make a video of it when I do it. I’ve got a GoPro, I just suck at talking 😂 so we will see.
I’m also thinking about adding that $230 bigger oil tank, but not sure how much having an extra oil cooler and a bigger oil tank will strain the oil pump, IF ANY. Not sure of the physics behind it. If anybody has input, please let me know,
@@BWADaniel Extra oil is probably a good thing, but I wonder if there’s an optimal temperature that the engine needs? Perhaps with the big oil tank, extra cooler and the fan it could prevent it from getting hot enough? I have no idea. I suppose an oil temp gauge would be great to have as well. Thanks for your suggestions!
Where you drilled the hole for the bottom mounting bracket is where the vin# is typically at on a 400ex. I'd avoid doing damage to it. You can always pull a sticker off and sand paint down. Maybe 1 or 2 numbers gone wouldn't matter idk.
Interesting, I didn’t see the VIN there but also wasn’t looking for it! If so, definitely need to find a different way to mount it, I wouldn’t want to destroy the VIN. Thanks for the information.
Yeah he has that sticker covering it. So you wouldn't know it was there. Only reason I know where it was because I had to get a title made for a 400ex. The only way I could get a title made was to take the quad to the sheriff's office and they ran the vin# to make sure it wasn't reported stolen

This is awesome! I added a fan in the same spot as that cooler but I'm really thinking about getting a cooler like that! You made it seem so easy!
A&M Offroad it’s pretty simple, I like that it’s easily reversible if you want to remove it. Thanks for watching

@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures those spal fans I've heard do really good! They are dust and water proof.
That looks good but I would really like to put a spin on oil filter inline as well and 1 or 2 fans as well, any ideas
I like the fan idea. No idea on how to do a spin on filter
Great job Tom,, keep up the good work thanks for your time..
Tom thank you, always something new going on.
NO BODY TOOK ANY TEMP READINGS B4 AND AFTER??? WHAT?!
I’m not Project Farm! 😂 But yeah, real data would be better, the guy who I did this for said that it feels noticeably cooler, if that helps.
Good job👍👍

I did another video installing a big bore kit, I think just 416cc or something like that. The cooler is holding on well.
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures okay thankd
@@HaydenForgues definitely check the valves and maybe take a look at the cam chain. I don’t think I’ve seen a 460, probably a torque monster.

What type of hose did you use? Fuel line?
I believe it was transmission cooler line?
Also since it's electric start I would have ran a fan to it help keep it cooler when not moving
A fan is a really good idea. I have one from a computer on my dirt bike.
Were do I get those cooling fins
The oil cooler? It’s a transmission cooler if I remember correctly, you can probably get it anywhere online or at an auto parts store

What kind of shocks are you using in the front? & is there any modifications to fit them?
There’s another video on my channel about those shocks.
How much oil did you have to add?
It was very little additional oil, from what I remember it was still in the normal range at the low end. Maybe a couple ounces?
Do you have to drain the oil before installing this?
You don’t have to but it’s a good idea to change it afterwards.
when you mounted the cooler to the bottom of the frame isn’t that right on top of where the vin number is?
Someone else said that, I guess there was a sticker there on that quad. I guess it’s best to make sure you don’t drill through the VIN.
