Whoa! Love that you showed the chips! I've always known large ships from a chain saw are good, but I never considered that a saw like this could get great chips too!
Surprising how many of these type of saws i still see at garage/ estate sales. Like they never get thrown out through multiple generations. Generally made from excellent steel too, certainly by today's standards at least.
Brilliant job . Wish you were here to help me with some diston saws I was given 30 years ago that got me through my carpentry apprenticeship. Saws are short these days and so disposable. Great work my friend ❤
Nice lance tooth...Congrats! I got mine about a month ago, a perforated lance tooth. Paid $15, but then again mine was still SHINY...yep, unicorns exist. Used my ATKINS circa 1888 jointer/file, and a selection of other files. Came out spiffy.
With many of the hand tools coming from the far east these days, buying and restoring old ones is probably the wisest choice. There are exceptions of course, but how do you tell until you’ve bought them?
I actually bought this style of saw from a yard sale several years ago. Any chance you could do a longer version? And add in where to get the information on a 'How To' sharpen/adjust the teeth? Edit.. Never mind Went to your channel and found it
0:35 What is that tool??? My late grandfather had a couple of old saws. One similar to this but without the top handle and a 2 person that was about 5 foot long. Always good to see an old tool rescued.
I have a question I have an old saw like that that I have tried to clean up but I can't get the handle screws to come off what would you guys recommend
@@blackwings89ra When the saw is sharpened correctly it will create long chips. If it was just little chips it means the saw is not cutting efficiently.
Dude! I can see laser etching on the side of that blade. Could have cured that with a second pass at 90 degrees, half the power and a narrower beam. Definitely laser etched though. I know. I own one.
That’s his own saw that he neglected and put a piece of tape in it that read $5. That way we think it’s from a garage sale and we can direct our Ill feelings towards the artificial owner and not the actual for the neglect of such a cool saw.

Look at those close ups!!!! Wow amazing restoration!
Thanks! Got a new camera lens!
that's not just a restoration. that brought it to better condition than it likely was ever in
😄👍🏻
Beautiful restoration
Thank you very much!

showing off the chips is truly the best way to show the quality of your saw
Exactly
Looks great! Your foot powered wire wheel is cool.
Thanks!
That's one hell of a saw !! I'd love to own one like it
I love it!

Thanks!
I have restored like that and then paint it on em. It's really fun. You'll have to try it.
No no no!
@@ChopWithChris ok
Loved the restoration, just surprised you didn't do anything with the wooden handles
I got a lot of feedback on that so I wert back and refinished it. The video is posted.

Most of my tools come from the flea market which are at least 100 years old and American made. For carving chisel I buy Swiss made tools.
Nice job Chris. By any chance are you going to be at the Garrigan Homecoming game this coming Friday? A lot of old coaches are going to be there.
Sorry I will not. I was back to talk to the team a few weeks ago.
Really sweet restoration Sir!
What is that solution you use to soak the parts in when removing rust?
Great video too
Thanks! Evaporust
Another tool saved! How long did the process take? How many usable one-man crosscut saws do you have?
I have 6 crosscut saws but only 2 are sharp right now. This took 5 hours.
I actually bought this style of saw from a yard sale several years ago.
Any chance you could do a longer version? And add in where to get the information on a 'How To' sharpen/adjust the teeth?
Edit..
Never mind
Went to your channel and found it
Thanks and good luck!
Wow he did all that soo fast in just seconds

Try a Perforated Lance through 6” of mesquite. You’ll find them all over north Texas.
👍🏻👍🏻
Awsome!
Thanks!
Nice kerf maker

Warranted superior was the temu of tools back in the day
What was the good stuff at that time?
$5! Most antique malls I go to sell these as ornamental wall decor for $50-100.
It was a great find!
I have a question I have an old saw like that that I have tried to clean up but I can't get the handle screws to come off what would you guys recommend
That’s always a problem. For those I have to apply a lot of pressure to the flat side while I turn the other side with a screwdriver.
I was like :” it doesn’t cut that well” then I saw that it was Cherry :)
💪
What solvent did you use for the bolts and misc parts to clean them up? A type of phosphoric acid?

Words CANNOT describe how much I HATE sharpening saws 😭
Actually I hate it too!!!

Can someone explain why showing the chips from the wood would be a highlight clip? Genuinely curious

Еможно узнать толщину полотна пилы ?
I don’t have good calipers but it’s around 2mm
1.6mm - 1.8mm
@ChopWithChris спасибо
Cherry bro🤌😰
💪💪💪
I think bending the teeth was a wrong move but it looks good.
Why?
Why the sticker tho?
I put them on all my big saws.
$5 is equivalent to £3.83 and I have to say that is extremely cheap for a huge saw.
No doubt!
now it's $7
I’m happy with it.
@@ChopWithChris that's great. Glad you liked my joke :D

Пишу из России, это у вас действительно вишневое дерево? Очень оно странное в объёме .
Hello to Russia. Yes - it is Cherry.
All that work, and no restoration on the handle?
I liked the patina.
