    I moved to Toronto by train from Edmonton in '78 and my first night was spent at the Royal York hotel, then the YMCA! I remember the room I got at the Royal York was $30 a night!

    A few errors, you are not in the beaches you're on lakeshore Avenue.

    • @hardyboy1959

      when i said that in the video, we were literally looking right at the beach! and if you want to get real picky... it's Lake Shore Boulevard not lakeshore Avenue!

    Hi Brian -- Had to come back to this video! As I'd mentioned, I have a family history of CP/Smith Transport and I enjoy seeing the office building where I spent the summers of my teen years! It brought back some great memories for me! Thank you so much for posting this.

      Those bleak parking lots are the "good old days" that the anti-development/ anti-condo crowd say they wish would
      return.

      You're doing a great service to us old timers. I was only a kid in the 80s so I didn't have cameras like some privileged people did.
      The more the city changes, the more I yearn for the old, if I'm honest. These new buildings and so called revitalization projects are killing the very soul of this city.

    • @Slimecrazy234
      @Slimecrazy234 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where these new buildings stand used to be miles upon miles of parking lots. It is for the better.

    • @supercooled
      @supercooled 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know this city is being slowly strangled and suffocated to death by all the new buildings and gentrification. We've reached the capacity with which the city can handle in terms of how many people it can accommodate. People cannot even afford rent anymore because of all the bidding wars.
      Signs of the times I guess. Just never thought I'd witness it in my life time. Give it a few more decades and we will be fighting for natural resources like water amongst ourselves like rabid dog.

    Regarding the Gardiner replacement (or should that be a supplement?), I suggest constructing precast tunnel sections, inflating buoyancy devices, floating them into position on the lake, and sinking them in-situ.

    Cool video. I came across a lot of your videos and am really enjoying them. I was trying to see what kind of convertible you were riding in, at one point I notice the driver was wearing a cool GM Motorsports jacket so my guess is the car was a Camaro? But it didn't sound like a Camaro so maybe it was a Cavalier?

      My father worked there until 1982 when, while at his desk at work, he passed away from a heart attack. His name was Nat Ginsberg. He was a dispatcher/road supervisor coordinator. I also worked there when I was a teenager in the 1960s. I came across your video by accident, as I like looking at scenes of old Toronto. I was amazed when you were driving along Commissioners and I saw the trucks and the old office building!

      I didn't know your dad as I didn't start there until '89. Sorry to hear about his passing away at work, helluva way to go. You might be interested in seeing my two other postings about working at CP...

      Thanks, Brian. I never saw the dock area of CP/Smith Transport. I was always in the office (worked there during the summers in the 1960s). I'd work in various departments. If someone was on vacation, I'd help out wherever. Just seeing the old office building brought back some great memories. Was it in 1992 that the building was demolished? Thanks for posting this video! It was wonderful to come across this and see a special part of my life!

    I feel like there was more Park space and more Trees back then..Now it's just a Hollow shell of its Former self..It looked more Fun and Friendly..Now it's all cold and dead and just building after building...It's funny how in 1989 Parkland is still the same..It's more like Wasteland..Now just about 3 years ago or so they just started to revamp it..After all them years.
