There was no name called "Hindu" but it does not mean Saivam and Vainavam are different religions". Both Saivam and Vainavam are based on the same core Vedic metaphysics Sankhya which combines Advaitha and Dvaita. Since the word "Hindu" was not in use then it did NOT mean the Vedic metaphysics around which the dharmic traditions (Saivam, Vainavam) were built was also not used. The word Hindu represents SANATHANA DHARMA traditions and their divisions.
