      I agree they will be great in 2018, but Canada in this tournament looked so defensively sound only giving up 3 goals against. It would be fair to say that might never happen again especially on a larger ice surface. The team was just on another level when it came to the little things that usually go unnoticed during a hockey game.

    Hockey is our game. Other nations have ice and fierce cold winters but only in Canada does a true lust and love for hockey exist. From frozen ponds to hockey rinks it binds our country and people in one goal; hockey excellence.
    We don't excel in much but every Canadian would die on their sword for hockey; even new Canadians.

    • @kolecava
      @kolecava 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Med you also put a lot of funding into it. Canada has over 700,000 registered Hockey players with Arenas all over the country.

    • @joemed9126
      @joemed9126 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister K 7851 hockey rinks to be exact. And a few million local volunteers/parents who get up at 5am on Saturdays/Sundays to open the rink, coach the teams, and drive their kids to the rink.
      American's throw money at hockey with some success however Canadian hockey is powered by passion and history.

    • @kolecava
      @kolecava 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Med each country is powered by passion and it's history, it's been going around for a while. However the matter stays, Canada is great due to its enrollment numbers. It's being pushed like Football or NFL/NBA in other countries. A lot of countries have love for Hockey, infact look at smaller countries in Eastern Europe or Scandivanian countries.
      Funding is still put into coaches and to build the rinks, supply the kits and then whole lot more in semi-proffesional/proffesional area of the sport.

    • @joemed9126
      @joemed9126 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister K Canadian parents fund hockey ... not the government. 600 dollars per kid just for house league hockey not including equipment. For rep players 3000+ per kid. Other countries have much higher per capita enrollment yet not the record of excellence that Canada has achieved. We have build the best development systems in the world (GTHL, OHL, ...) and built upon a history and culture of hockey that no other country can offer. We invented and perfected the game.

    • @kolecava
      @kolecava 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Med Parent's are funding the stadiums, maybe the maintenance but not the construction. You have private contractors which do this. The baseline is, there is funding being dumped into hockey which other countries simply can't do, specially in Europe.
      Also calculating enrollment per capita is bit pointless as there are many factors to take into account (such as size of the nation, immigration and so forth).
      The passion for hockey is what generates the number, that and scholarships as well. Look at the OHF and OJHL for example. Other coutnries, most at least simply can't afford that, irrelevant how much passion/enrollment per capita there is.

    Good tournament from Sweden overall, if players like the Sedin brothers and Zetterberg would have played, Sweden would have a much better chance of winning the tournament. They Reached the finals without their best players and that deserves respect, meanwhile Canada had almost its full force however they played very well.

      Sweden would have won the tournament without any problem?!? LOL, dream on. Sweden reached the final, but against Canada it had no chance, Canada dictated the game and in no time was Sweden a serious threat. With the Sedin twins and Zetterberg, Sweden would maybe give a better fight, but that's still not enough. Don't forget that Canada was missing Stamkos too and he's better than Zetterberg and the Sedins.

    • @Greensocksable
      @Greensocksable 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We missed Zetterberg, Sedin, Franzen and Backstrom i think. They are 4 important players of the swedish team. I don't know if they would have won or not, but i'm sure that the game would have been more intense :) Good job Canada, your'e the best in hockey right know, RESPECT!

    The USA would’ve won gold with Jonathan Quick posting that shutout, instead, of Carey Price with Canada, if John Tortorella had been fired the head coach, instead of Dan Bylsma.

    Feel bad for Team Canada in the 60's, 70's and 80's. How many gold medals would they have won during this period had their professionals been able to compete in the Winter Olympics? Many of the great hockey players they had back then would have traded a Stanley Cup for a Gold Medal.

      Sporting politics of the time. Professionals in the Olympics is a rather new thing in basketball and hockey. Football has a compromise which allows only 3 over-age players so as to not compromise the World Cup's supremacy in the sport and the Olympics bumped baseball and softball in order to pressure the MLB into allowing pros.

    When they show the great goals from Team Canada's past (Henderson, Sittler, Bossy, Lemieux, etc) which one from this game will they choose I wonder?
    1st goal - Scored by great player (Toews) and is the game winning goal but hard to see and early in the game.
    2nd goal - A breakaway goal by Canada's best player of the last 10 years but he's already a lock in the 2010 highlight (small quibble)
    3rd goal - Kunitz is not that big of a name but it is a pretty goal but not the game winning goal by far.
    I think I would choose the Kunitz goal.

      +jessc1979 to be honest this game is not gonna feature highly among the greats. Although the swedes put up a good fight when you actually watched the game, on paper it was a lie down, and they were beaten too soundly. No excitement...2010 was the one people will remember.

    This vid, while serviceable, does not portray the omnipotency, the firepower, of the Canadian team in that tournament. In the 3rd period of the above game, the Swedes
    were lucky if they even got the puck into the attacking zone. The ice was tipped completely toward Sweden. They never stood a chance.

    • @toooooooooooooooool
      @toooooooooooooooool 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheGamingRaptor 6 feet by 4 feet seems pretty small, but when you consider the size of the puck (3 inch diameter, 1 inch thickness), and the speed of the shots faced by the goaltender (can be in excess of 100 miles per hour), it's a very difficult net to protect even without making it bigger.

    • @kostathomas8732
      @kostathomas8732 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because the puck is so small and the game is so fast it sort of justifies it. I'm a goalie myself and it's no easy task stopping the puck

    I watched this game and have to say it was actually pretty boring to watch, but I guess that's because I was comparing it to the 2002 and 2010 gold medal games between Canada and the USA. In the end, I was happy Canada won but wasn't jumping out of my seat screaming and cheering like in 2002 and 2010.

    Ice Hockey is Canada's sport. This year's olympics was a joke because of the stupid NHL not allowing their players off. The olympics are about the best players in the world, not about players who were formally in the NHL...

      Yes the atmosphere was exciting. But the game itself was very boring, you knew Canada was going to win the second the puck dropped. It's exciting as a fan of Canada but as a fan of hockey 2010 was miles (correction kilometeres :D) better.
