Many years ago I grew up in the okanagan valley where wild asparagus grew everywhere, along the hot sandy railroad tracks and in the cool shady fruit orchards. The wild asparagus that we picked & cooked was always delicious & fun to go on a hunt for. I think fruit trees & asparagus are natural companions.

Mum sold her hobby farm in the Perth hills in west Australia. The ground is heavy bauxite, ie gravel. I dug up the 30 + year old crowns from around the apple trees. It took me hours, but ended up with lots of huge crowns which are living a new life and still producing well in their new home. My mini schnauzer loved harvesting his own raspberries, but my Maltese shitzu expects me to chew her carrots for her. Enjoy your videos! Happy gardening

Alpine Strawberries are suppose to be similar to wild strawberries. I’d like to hear your idea in how you would plant these. Would you plant the strawberries in the Asparagus row? Or along the sides? I’m new to both.

If I eat raw asparagus, I break out.
And, we're in zone 9A, and get some, but it's more for looks in the garden. There's a lady who raises oyster mushrooms in her asparagus bed. She mounds straw over the beds, around any stalks that are going to fern, and plants the spore. It's a good crop in winter, and the mushrooms make a rich, silky soil that asparagus likes.

    This video is fabulously heartwarming!
This is the 4th or 5th year with asparagus. The weather determines how well it produces. Heat stops its production. This year it stopped but then like the entire garden, it’s having a second spurt of production. Homegrown cannot be compared to store or even produce stand offerings. Same with leek. This year the leek are kind of small. The odd spurts of April & May high temps is doing it. Oh well. It is what it is.
I did find triple ground mulch and will pick up some brown compost too. I’ve got a pretty big compost heap but afraid I’m not very good yet on managing it.
Anyway, this video goes straight to the heart of growing. And then there is your boss Tuck. What a sweetie pie he is.
Thank you for sharing this info about perennial asparagus.

Great video! I too feel blessed when I’m out in my food forest. I just planted our 4th bed of asparagus from seed several days ago. Our oldest bed is about 12 years old. Our 2nd (10 year old) bed is planted under a fruit tree as well (Chokecherry) and does just great there. You’ve inspired me. I am going to get out there tomorrow and add some good compost to my beds!
Btw, we also had a dog that would dig his own carrots and harvest his own raspberries from the canes.

James grade information about asparagus. I especially like the part about cutting back the asparagus in the fall to keep the asparagus beetle away.

I love your words "All labor is profit!" Please do plant more asparagus because I want to order and plant some this spring. Where and when should I order it?

We have wild or volunteer asparagus here in Western CO. It grows mainly in fence lines and on ditch banks. Prefers poorer soil. Sheep and deer love it, only while its young & tender.

This year I was able to transplant my mom’s asparagus from her homestead that my nephew kindly shared with me.
I used your information to hopefully help with the process.
    Love your channel and tips.
I did sneak a few tender tips of asparagus for Tucker our loveable dog and he gets pretty excited about garden time.
If I could just teach him to help weed it would be a bonus.
