I am absolutely devastated by yet another company going the "murder board" route. This is incredibly inefficient for organising, and my neurodivergent hamsters went absolutely nuts in 10 generations. This is SO not user-friendly, I could cry. Way worse than the attempts to make MJ social. 😢
Besides being absolutely broken and resembling something built in Geocities ages ago, this might be the first major L regarding MJ's features. It feels like one of those video games that promise to be open-world but instead hold your hand every step of the way. The experience is clunky, rushed, and lacks the polish one would expect from MJ's team. The interface not only feels dated but also a PureRef clone. Instead of empowering users to explore and innovate, it gives the impression of a beta version released prematurely. For a platform with MJ's reputation, Patchwork feels just like a mishmash, a disservice to its engaged community, leaving much to be desired in terms of both execution and vision, imho.
I've been a paid up member of Midjourney since day one and have generated thousands of great images. In my view it's still by far the best image generator. However, I really don't get this Patchwork thing ? How many people will use this ? In my opinion there are much more important areas MJ should be focused on rather than this pretty obscure stuff. Or am I totally wrong ?
Patchwork is so incredibly novel and cool, looking forward to when they get the server issues sorted out, getting a lot of cloudflare errors lately. Also having some kind of list of worlds I've generated instead of needing to go portal to portal would be nice.
my survey idea: "a way to meet and learn from similar creatives (in my case architects / interior designers) that will allow everyone to find common ground in a visual way, which will strengthen our community". But this is 10000x times that... truly amazing!! Thanks for taking time to review it
For me personally, i have no use for this. Would rather they pushed forward with video before they get left behind by other companies doing bigger and better things
It is a divisive and possibly groundbreaking feature once flushed out. Divisive and groundbreaking often go hand-in-hand. I don't see the point of rating ideas anymore, though, unless v7 proves that the community's ideas do _actually_ affect their actions in the slightest. Appreciate the video, as always. 👍
You are amazing for the explanation... MJ on the other hand... :S this should be a study case for "don't" in a UX class... UI/UX should fix complexity no add it. As MJ loyal user is very annoying to see them waste time in this kind of projects, instead of improving on practical useful simple things that makes their model easier to include in a pro workflow.
Would it be possible to use it for anything other than creative story telling? Like an event planner using it to brainstorm a theme and the props for a very creative event? Or a fashion designer using a narrative to create a new collection with a specific creative theme or themes?
It’s also an organizational tool since everything is on one big page. And helps you reuse conceptual ingredients across multiple prompts. Makes a little more sense after watching the walk-through that Midjourney posted. Then Nolan‘s tips make more sense too.
Patchwork is such a dumb idea in my opinion. You can’t even make an octopus with accurate tentacles in Midjourney and they’re already moving on to video and multiplayer. Fix image quality and character / style reference accuracy FIRST
I do like the feature; however, it's unpolished. I'm having issues logging into Patchwork. They require connecting a Discord account with a Google account, but when I try, I get error messages. The link to Patchwork on the website does not work, but the one on Discord does. This feature feels rushed-maybe they are doing some kind of stress tests. Also, come on... calling this a "world-building tool" it's a stretch; it's a social moodboard. Cool nonetheless.
@FutureTechPilot It's a shame. The Google thing is a deal breaker. If I wanted to link Midjourney to Google I would have done so when I signed up. Now, I'm just a paying customer who is locked out of an experimental feature because I somewhat value my privacy.
I think this is more for artsy folks. However I was hoping that the images once placed next to each other that they would stitch or merge somehow evolving the image getting melded together on the edges to start building a cohesive world. This seems more like a collage of some kind maybe for brainstorming. I kind of prefer Flow State on Leonardo, I know they are different features, but I think Midjourney getting something like flow state would be a great boost especially if the ‘Mood Board’ functions appropriately
I like the canvas, but not into the story features. But I do see were this could be useful for architectural work or portraits. You copied a Cref URL, So would I be correct you can use your own images as long as you have a URL? I could see this as an AI version of Pinterest, where you have all these real images say for a house tat you like and you use MJ to explore possibilities.
How to pull in and use/reference a Midjourney generated image? I thought I could use --sref or --cref in a character box, hit paint and it would generate from the image, however, I get an error "Failed to generate image. Invalid request" -- what am I missing?
This is very interesting, and as someone who leans into the worldbuilding potential of Midjourney, I must say this seemed like it was made just for us. I currently run an open roleplaying campaign/server and broadcast the worldbuilding we do with Midjourney. This new feature will take that to the next level.
you're a treasure Nolan. I watched the mid journey video on this last night but like you mentioned, didn't entirely get it... but your deep dive helps out so much. I wasn't expecting MJ to pull out anything like this but as a storyteller, this could be a quite amazing fork in the road of AI generation. Thanks for this. Excellent content as usual.

Tried this today, didn't get it, i was like I'll just wait until FTP does a video on it lol
These are my favorite comments
canvas are the future!!
Are you able to import previously generated photos from your MJ gallery?
I don’t think so, but I wish they could implement this asap

Thanks for doing some heavy lifting. Did you try it with more than one character in an image?
It'll be interesting when you can bring in your own resources and reference them
💯
This is a great feature🤩👑since this is how the entertainment industry works during pre-production on Series, Films and Games🎉❤
😱 it is AWESOME!!!
Create a World full of Characters and objects together. Write a plot line- add the visuals.
That’s what I envision the main use case as. It would be great once the issues are sorted out.

I rewatched this video again but didnt understand a single thing. Too much complicated 😵💫
Multiple people go online to contribute to each other’s prompts. It’s a way to be social with other MJ users. I guess some want this….

Thanks, Nolan, for this explanation, I went to the Patchwork link first, but was a little lost.

You can't create correctly shaped windmills with any consistency either.
different teams work on different things
You'll need a large screen for this crazy invention like a 42 inch or 46 inch long monitor.
Great stuff.ty
Cheers!
Interesting :) - looks like Midjourney is getting more interesting again. :)
This could replace adobe InDesign. More layout and text editing tools is all they have to add.
I didn't get it, what is practical use for it?? (other than trying to fight bugs)

I forgot to include the google sign in part! Sorry about that, I had to do it as well and it was weird for sure.

Yah that's a good way of putting it!

When I try to create a world, I get "You can't edit this world!" Maybe the site is glitching?

Well that's really cool to hear! I'm sure your type of feedback will be really useful to their team
NOICE!!!
i keep getting failed to generate oh well

Hey I'm happy to hear that!
"that was a girl and this looks like a boy, but you get the idea"...okai !! ( but thanks for making this video, appreciate your effort )
Reminds me of the first concept of quake 1, where users could create worlds and link them through portals. Thanks for the video once again :)
haha cheers!
It sucks on iPad Pro…..
2 minutes in still dont know the topic
Meh, very niche again
