There are many here since my childhood in the 1980's. ❤ When we were Kids they were the only photographers and led commerce here. In my village one of the famous drivers was from Nigeria and the only shop was held by a very beautiful Nigerian woman Who could even speak our local language. All her offsprings now consider themselves as Ivorians. We are the same family. ❤

But it is used more like a common name to designate any non native rather than to point out their origin. It is a name. It is like ALIEN, the term used in the USA to talk about any non native, non citizen etc. I used the term because I didn’t know what else to use. It is also sad that people focus on one term instead of trying to understand the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

In my father's village, Toumodi, there are lots of Nigerians and there's even a market named after them. I really love this people, my classmate at primary school was Nigerian and we were very close, in fact it was she who taught me to ride a bike 🙂 but we lost touch. I hope to find her again one day. I am Ivorian and I have many Nigerian friends. My late father had a Nigerian photographer and tailor as a best friend in the 80s. He was a very kind and honest gentleman. When he returned from his travels in Nigeria he brought beautiful traditional clothes to my parents. We lost sight of him since the 90s when my father was posted to another city in the country. I know he would be very sad if he learn that his best friend who was my father is no longer in this world. I hope he is also doing well. By the way, you are very beautiful and natural like a real African woman.

Back in 1980-1985, Shagari and Buhari times, most cars doing taxis in Abidjan came from Nigeria. New cars made in Nigeria. People said that there was a huge cars' black market on the Benin-Nigeria border. Back then Nigeria was an decent cars producer country. What happened to those cars producing factories?
Build houses there if accomodation is a serious issue for living in Abidjan, just do like libanese they build apartments and put them for rent or sale . Nigerians should venture into property market to lessen the cost of living there.
Nigerians are not asking for too much. Good roads, good Healthcare system, regular electricity and water, security and better opportunities for ALL. May God give us better leaders. These selfish people in Govt don't just cut it.

When Nigeria's economy was stronger than those of these countries, their citizens also did the same thing in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. So, it is a factor largely fuelled by the dynamics of the economic climate of individual ECOWAS countries. It has been happening over the years depending on the direction where the healthy-economy pendulum swings. This situation can be solved permanently if the countries in the regional economic bloc called ECOWAS agree to adopt a single currency to facilitate trade and unite our people as the Europeans did with Euro.
