Problem is, the schools get called racist either way. If done racial groups don’t do well in school then it’s due to systemic racism. When school administrators try to tweak the system so these groups do better, it’s called the soft bigotry of low expectations . It’s a no win situation

I graduated high school in 2015, college in 19. I don’t know many 24 year olds like me who actually give a shit like I do about what’s happening around us, truthfully and HONESTLY happening, even if it’s not what I thought it might be. I grew up in a small town, pretty much 50/50 black and white, and I never cared about history or politics and couldn’t tell you anything going on in the world. We were all the same in that way. Some parents might have some thing about voting or what party our family was, but I don’t know a single person that could say they remember what they really said. Black white and a small number of Hispanics made up our town and school but maybe we were too small minded to have these modern, trendy racist views that sound very progressive and know that racism is all that is really going on…. Sorry, lost my train of thought. But maybe we were all ignorant and unaware, calling one another “my niggaaa” and knowing how and when and who was NOT saying it right.. like one of our rivals white football players trying to make a scene using nigger or monkey after every other word. When shit like that happened we all felt it, and WE ALL wanted to fight. But the words would lose their affect, especially if we were winning. Then we pitied, mocked and laughed at that kid. We were all saying “I’ll beat your monkey ass you dirty niggers!” mocking his stupid accent and real ignorance. We were all honest withp each other in a weird way I guess. Making racist jokes to one another, feeling when the joke wasnt a joke anymore, and all knowing what we meant saying the word retarded in any aspect! And I would go so far as to say even special education students, also our classmates, knew the difference too. I may have personally done or said something racially insensitive that really hurt one of my black friends, but none of us knew that then. Because id have been confronted with a lot asswhooping first of all all, and secondly, I do feel like I am more aware of racial inequalities and I never considered being black let alone anyone other than myself, and now I am coming full circle in this awareness. I questioned myself, felt white guilt, and like other white people made actual racial inequalities that we should try to come together over, alll about how sorry I was. How terrible I felt for not realizing sooner what my poor black and brown friends must have felt every situation and especially when they were around me and my privilege compared to their lives…. I truly believed that way of thinking was a good thing, not demeaning at all. But it finally clicked one day that I had ended up thinking exactly what real racism is: that white people, myself included, were better than other racial groups in America. It doesnt matter if it was because of a false sense of sympathy and guilt, I had bought into a mindset that was used by both those who do hate others. Thinking white people are all better off than the rest can be based on feelings of EVERY kind, and still be the very definition of racism.

Not this teacher. Our teachers union is demonizing those who speak up against it.. I have many parent friends who are Black and Latino.( I am a foreign born Latina). We all are against this Marxist nonsense that is just trying to make us look weak and stupid. I am proud to say that many of my students tell me that so many TH-cam videos are very demonic. ( One student just wanted to discuss what her mom and pastor said. Then other students chimed in. I did not add or comment as a public educator. I refuse to push any agenda, just teach what students are supposed to learn.). Their parents are very aware and see what really is going on. They are aware of the negative agendas that are occurring from CRT to sexuality agendas to immoral disgusting music videos. I teach Spanish and Ioved when my parents would pop in to make a positive comment about our class when they were online. I always just taught the language. Occasionally, during a break or at the end of class, a child would make a comment about some things their parents were unhappy about what was going on in the world. When students returned, a few of the parents would want to talk about certain agendas they were concerned about. I kept my opinions to myself and followed my job to speak Spanish. However, I had a great relationship with those parents and some just brought this issue up, which was quite interesting. Parents out there are genuinely concerned.

I grew up in the country environment and we had less then 10 black kids that I grew up with and nobody gave a shit about their skin color or treated them any different. So if there's some racists communities in America that act differently than those I grew up with then I've never seen or heard of them until I hear a bunch of wealthy white people talking about it. I'm now 40 years old and all I can say is that my generation as a whole is far from racists.

“Critical pedagogy begins from a different set of assumptions rooted in the neo-Marxian literature on critical theory commonly associated with the Frankfurt School. Here, the critical learner is someone who is empowered and motivated to seek justice and emancipation. Critical pedagogy regards the claims that students make in response to social-justice issues not as propositions to be assessed for their truth value, but as expressions of power that function to re- inscribe and perpetuate social inequalities. Its mission is to teach students ways of identifying and mapping how power shapes our understandings of the world. This is the first step toward resisting and transforming social injustices. By interrogating the politics of knowledge-production, this tradition also calls into question the uses of the accepted critical-thinking toolkit to determine epistemic adequacy. To extend Audre Lorde’s classic metaphor, the tools of the critical-thinking tradition (for example, validity, soundness, conceptual clarity) cannot dismantle the master’s house: they can temporarily beat the master at his own game, but they can never bring about any enduring structural change (Lorde 1984, 112). They fail because the critical thinker’s toolkit is commonly invoked in particular settings, at particular times to reassert power: Those adept with the tools often use them to restore an order that assures their comfort. They can be habitually invoked to defend our epistemic home terrains.”

Please consider the Between Two Worlds series by Alan Hidalgo. This is English Language Arts curriculum based on classical multiculturalism, which recognizes that culture is an ideology and not a skin color, and where the goal is to understand and unite via cultural competence and not divide and vilify any race or nationality as CRT does with its foundation being Cultural Marxism. The series is made of Between Two Worlds: A Multicultural and Multilingual Anthology and Student Workbooks for Middle School, High School, and College/University. The novels are high interest, high relevance, and character building via universal virtues and real life lessons that transcend nationality or race or culture. The workbooks teach reading analysis, higher order thinking, Socratic discourse, and essay composition with an emphasis on argumentation and rhetoric. Theory does not work. Children are impressionable at any age. This theory uses means of labeling. Schools should historically teach the good & bad of historical events but once you get into labeling their will be pushback. Parents & churches really need to step up their home lessons w/ regard to people who look different. Teachers then follow up by simply using different teaching tools such as debates or videos of historic events & mixing kids up whether it be recess, lunch, field trips, intramaural, clubs.

Critical Race Theory in short tries to show that previous and current legislation has impacted race disparity. Most people have no problem accepting this as a fact on legislation (mainly in the south, but the north was not exempted from it) after the civil war and prior to the civil rights movement in the 1960’s, in which legislation was directed to limit some races (mainly blacks) from achieving equality in political, economical, educational, etc. spheres. Clearly, after this post civil war-100 years period, the groups suffering the legislative decisions were at a great disadvantage to compete on equal terms due to their systematic planned lack of education, resources, capital, family role models, and most importantly a community based support in their own communities and acceptance and support by the other racial communities, especially those in power. The big question would be: has society offer a fair level playing field for all races (including the resources needed to fairly compete), has legislation stopped being racially motivated, and if all people have accepted to play on a real fair level field.

It would seem that there are some Americans who don't want their children,( or anyone for that matter) to be taught ALL of the American History in relation to the Purging of other Cultures and Ethnicity to make way for the Sanitized Version of the Protestant View of American History. It seems to Irk these falsehood people that the Surreptitious Permiation of Laws Rules and Regulations to keep America Pure, implemented over the years, are finally having a spot light shine upon them. Critical race theory doesn't cause racism. Rather, it calls out existing systems of racism and delves into how they are created and perpetuated. Opponents of teaching this theory act like we somehow live in a post-racial, "color-blind" society where people no longer see race. Well, if this is the case, then how do you explain the backlash against Asians amidst COVID? If we live in a post racial "color-blind" society, how could this be happening?

    • @Dante02d12

CRT pretends racism is systemic. "Systemic", BY DEFINITION, means rooted in the _system,_ in the laws.
But there aren't ANY law saying "if you're not white, you don't have _these_ rights". Therefore, racism isn't systemic. Basic logic here. Ayone claiming racism is systemic only does it to earn Social Justice points. "Look, we're the good guys, we're fighting against eviiiil!"
Or course racism exists. No one is claiming otherwise. There will always be retarded assholes everywhere, and CRT won't change that. It won't teach people not to be racist. On the contrary, it will only cause racism because it's pushing people against each other. It _shouldn't_ be that way in theory, but in practice, it is used to push POC to believe they aren't able to succeed in current society, while shaming white people just for being white. As a result, white people will naturally start to hate POC, while POC will hate whites for being """privileged""". We can already see that everywhere: POC insulting others, claiming they should "check their privileges", and whites insulting POC as if they were the cause of current racialist movement.
Then you have to remember the context. BLM is another example of sheer racialism, which is racism _pretending_ to fight racism. Once again a movement that _shouldn't_ separate people, but actively does it.
Don't get fooled by people pretending to be heroes. The masterminds pushing CRT today aren't doing it to fight racism. They just want an army of brainwashed youth that they can control however they want. Once they sledgehammer their ideologies into our kids' brains, they'll order them to shoot their opponents dead.
It's Hitler Youth disguised as Social Justice.

@@Dante02d12 Even if laws don't explicitly say they only refer to people of a specific race, the enforcement of the laws can still be inequitable. E.g. the "War on Drugs."
Part of the problem is that these "basic logic" and "common sense" arguments are commonly being used against CRT, which barely scratch the surface and don't provide a nuanced understanding of the issues that extend beyond just the basics. It used to be considered "common sense" knowledge that the world was flat. However, we now know it's round. (Well, some people still say it's flat, but hopefully you get the point.) Also, systemic racism can extend beyond just laws.

@@veganvixen6930 If it's not supported by laws, it's not systemic, just social. You don't think, then you complain that we're telling you you're not thinking. You're the one similar to flat earthers here...

By teaching him to be a friend, not a bully. To care but not foolishly. To share but not to the point he is left with nothing. I teach him to stand up for what he believes in. I do these thing through example. He learns from Me first. My actions speak louder than my words. I teach him to question things that dont make sense which to a youngster is Everything. If a teacher or Anyone tells my child he is a "problem" he is to let me know. I am Poor. I have the Same problems as any poor person but i will teach my child to how to manage. I will teach my child to survive and i will not allow "race" be his problem. If he speaks out, it is with my blessing. He is an American who happens to be 1/2 white. To sum up the objections of the anti-critical race theory crowd: We don't like critical race theory (but we don't know what it is), and our primary worry is that we'll be painted as racists for objecting to critical race theory (which, again, we don't know what it is, but we have pretty fantastic fears about it which aren't based in any fact).
How about, instead of teaching critical race theory, we teach CRITICAL THINKING (full stop)? It's clearly needed since the majority of people in the US tend to support or oppose topics, not for any particular reason, but for political, popular, or tribal affiliations.

The issue isn't what CRT actually is, it's about what's being done under the guise of CRT. I mean are you not listening to what these schools are doing to children??? Telling little 8 year old white kids that their mere existence is oppressive to their fellow 8 year old classmates of other races. Splitting up children into "oppressor" and "oppressed" groups based solely on their race and then forcing the "oppressor" children to make statements about how they feel about their oppressiveness. We're talking about CHILDREN here. What on earth is wrong with you people??? Do you WANT your own children to be dehumanized and shamed for the color of their skin??? Because that's exactly what's happening. Go do a few Google searches and look at the first hand accounts yourself. I am NOT just making this stuff up or blowing it out of proportion.

While I appreciate and empathize with the extraordinary difficulties in life that have been experienced by "people of color" (I hate that term) in the US, to assign a collective guilt to white people by some people of color -- or even guilty whites, such as Robin DiAngelo -- causes more harm than good. And the reason for the harm is because the problem has been misdiagnosed by the advocates of CRT (or whatever name it is going by).
There is NO INSTITUTIONAL RACISM - except where laws and policies are created to address unequal opportunity or outcome informed by an "ends justify the means" philosophy. What I mean is that we no longer have different laws or policies for whites vs others. That does not mean racism does not exist, only that we have amended the institution of "rule of law" to mean what it was always intended to mean - "equality under the law". That said, institutions do not run or police themselves, it is up to us to be vigilant about the proper functioning of our institutions. So, I do not deny that there are racists working in institutions (e.g. cops, judges, employers, etc.) just as there are racists among the population in all walks of life and represented by all ethnicities. This is unfortunate but also to be expected if you understand anything at all about human psychology. I am not saying we should write off racism as inevitable due to human psychology but rather attempt to educate from the point of view of what is truly known and what data show, rather than approaching the issue with the quasi-religious concept of CRT which, informed by Marxist Critical Theory, frames social relations primarily motivated by power struggle (in this case replacing "class" with "race"). Marxist Critical Theory is incorrect at its core and so, therefore, is CRT.
How is CRT wrong? First of all, it is based in question-begging, which is to say it begins with a preferred outcome and then frames premises to support the outcome (the same way most or all religions do). For example, one fallacious argument in attempting to prove the existence of god (by question begging) is to say something like, "the universe has an order to it, how else could this order exist without a god?" CRT makes a similar error in that it states, "how could the social order of the US be as it is - with whites having more wealth than blacks for example - when whites are not superior to blacks?" The easy answer is the legacy of racism. And if you frame the problem that way - focusing on outcomes - then the obvious solution would be to employ the power of the government to socially engineer a preferred outcome. The equal outcome (more or less) was also the focus of the Marxists. But classical liberals, such as myself - and such were the values of our founders - meant that opportunity, not outcome was the desired goal. Of course, due to slavery and racism, the liberal goal has only begun in the mid 20th century to be realized via the institution of government. But liberalism did not prevent racism. True.
But, I would argue that liberalism is the remedy for racism - as long as we MAKE liberalism live up to its values. Whereas, blaming liberalism for not being a miracle cure, is misguided. There is nothing wrong with liberalism - except when people claim to be liberals and are not.
Unfortunately, the only thing that CRT will accomplish in the end - and we are seeing it now - is inspiring those already inclined toward racist views and authoritarianism, further to reactionary positions making it harder for liberals to continue our great project.
For example, had BLM, instead of highlighting the abuses of police of blacks, pointed out the abuse of police power toward ALL citizens, it would NOT have met with the antipathy of a lot of right wing whites. And the outcome would have been the same - police reform (with much broader support than do-gooder progressives).
Ultimately, the CRT advocates mostly refuse to look at black culture and assign any blame (e.g. black on black violence) at home, rather than making the entire position of blacks completely the result of whites and racism. Big mistake. Unfortunately, this movement has already resulted in a backlash where we ended up with fascist Trump in the white house, next time it could be worse.

You had me up until the last sentence and can’t believe that in your screed you did not use the word ‘fascist’. But then use it against Trump. CRT is more ‘fascist’ then anything Trump had done. But upon reflection, perhaps you used that term in jest.....

    • @canteluna

@@dezerep CRT is a kind of religious or utopian cult because it has a kind of origin story and its claims are to be taken on faith - not empiricism. This is different than fascism which is essentially nationalism imposed by violence. Fascism too is also a religious cult in that it has a charismatic leader and an origin story which is that white folks (in this case) are the REAL folk of the society, their right is in the blood and soil.
So, yes, I think Trump is a fascist because he is the charismatic leader of a nationalist movement willing to use violence, break laws, etc., to legitimize power. CRT is an INFLUENCE in culture, they have no claim to institutional power, even as well represented as they are in universities and government, they could be shut down by the power of the institutions any time.

Critical Race Theory was founded upon Critical Theory according to "Is Everyone Really Equal?" by Robin DiAngelo:
"Our analysis of social justice is based on a school of thought know as Critical Theory. Critical Theory refers to a body of scholarship that examines how society works, and is a tradition that emerged in the early part of the 20th century from a group of scholars at the *Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, Germany"* (Pg 25).
Critical Theory at the Frankfurt School was started by Horkheimer and others.
But who were he and they? What is their background? DiAngelo sounds Spanish. Is that her background?
Horkheimer drew upon Karl Marx and Engels. What is their background, education, etc?
