- Cooking trout on the campfire in the woods.
I lit the fire using flint and steel. The trout was seasoned and cooked in tin foil on the hot coals. Really tasty. Followed by a cup of hot chocolate.

Awesome to see people keeping bush craft skills alive. I much prefer a sharp machete for my smaller wood cutting needs over an axe.

Thank you for bringing a hatchet. I am not sure why most of the other outdoor channel people do not bring one and try and do everything with their knife. I cringe when I see someone digging, hacking up trees and splitting wood and beating the crap out of their knives. I know they are tough, but the right tool for the job conserves steel and saves time.
It's weight. As a frequent camper, I've gotten a hundred ideas from people who say, "Dude-you need this!" But I'm like okay cool - are you gonna carry that for me??
@@71rambler , all good ,to each their own. I have a small hatchet that weighs a little over two pounds and like to save my knife steel for medium and light duty stuff. Especially when dealing with sand, mud and things with rocks in them. But it really depends on what kind of trip I am on. If it is a close hike of less than five miles, I take the weight, more than that I an I start thinking of ounces. If it is canoe trip, I carry an axe and a cast iron pan.
Well, the lovely lady in the video clearly does make a good case for it's merits!

@@71rambler city boy camping vs actual Bush camping / off the land camping are very diffrent. Hints to why you dont bring a hatchet proves it. If you would like to actually be educated I'm more then cool with teaching you stuff that would save your ass if you ever got lost. Or you can show off to the lady's or men.. cause, your base knowledge of camping scares me if something were to happen.

It was some how relaxing to watch
It's how humans are supposed to be.. surrounded by nature.
My favorite way to eat Rainbows is to just poke a green stick through it, hold it over the fire, no oil or seasoning, and eat it with my fingers. -- If you cut into the avocado just till you feel the seed, then run the blade around it you can just twist the avocado and it splits in half and the seed comes out whole. If you toss the seed into the woods it might grow, but if you take it home and poke three toothpicks into it horizontally around it near the top (round end) then put it in a jar or cup of water with a mouth the right size the toothpicks hold the top of the seed out of the water, then it will grow roots and you can plant it. They make pretty nice house plants. -- Don't eat that red with white warts mushroom! That's a Magic Mushroom (like the caterpillar in Alice In Wonderland was sitting on), aka Fly Agaric, aka Amanita Muscaria.

Really good up until using aluminium foil, should try large leaf instead, more tricky to find but more healthy.

Flint and steel is easy. Flint and rocks gets tricky.

I've loved going through your videos and watching them on my way home from work on the train. I recently moved to Australia from the UK (North Yorkshire) and it's made me miss home massively. I always went camping as a kid with my older brother and we'd always make our own fires to cook! - looking forward to watching more!

If you’re looking for a great cooking setup with less smoke and more wind resistant, try a Dakota fire pit. If you dig the air while upwind, then you can use the wind to your adv. burns hot and not smoky but only for cooking not warmth.
