As youth minister I always wanted to make sure our ministry was not an events ministry but a life change/ seed planting, along with building Kingdom in our young ppl ministry. This was a huge challenge with leadership at one ministry I was at. I had to really trust God with the Vision that He had given me.

It's not just the youth department. All of church has been water down. Not even the adults want a sermon more than 20 minutes although just because a sermon is a hour doesn't mean it's full of the spirit. I'm not against making things creative and fun but make sure people are learning and let's not forget we need to be studying and reading on our own. A service should not be the only spiritual learning your getting. Your every day life can be full of God teaching you and using you. It sticks with me through those God experiences then just get preached at

It has ticked me off for years! I served and led youth Ministries. When I wanted to introduce more word and discipleship, I got quietly out voted, removed, and replaced. The youth ended up with more pizza, more ice cream, and more games, and less word. On top of that the replacement that they had, didn't even stay. That Youth Department ended up getting shut down. It truly was a shame. Fortunately, before all this went down I made it my business to teach from the pulpit, from the book of Romans expositionally, over the course of a decade. I was determined that not just the youth, but everyone that heard from me was going to get proper Doctrine. By God's grace, a number of those youth have gone on forward in the Lord and in their lives, doing well in their career paths, would some of them marrying and having children of Their Own. #giveEmtheGospel #keepgoingfwd

At my church, we don’t do the games.. we have dinners together, but we have always been focused on these young people encountering authentic Jesus… And the change I’ve seen and the life that is in their hearts and eyes for Jesus is unlike I’ve seen at any other youth group…

Pulled my kids from a youth group here and there over our lifetime for basically being a “play date for teens” on Wednesday night. Can’t ever reach out to their “youth leaders” because they had a new one ever other week. Wasting my sons time. No thank you. Where they go now, their is teaching of a lifestyle and deep relationship with Father God! They can text or call their youth pastor when in a bind or just for a chat! God has blessed us deeply with the ministry we found.

Accept yourself and others in the sinful state you’re in. My heart can’t take it

I say this too. My grand kids played basketball and danced and just hung out in church. I am not saying this to be rude. I am so concerned for the youth and the babies. They need a class for ages 5 to 10 yrs old and 11 to 13 years old. 14 to 17 yrs old. But only if they are going to teach them. I think that these classes are needed for the youth to grow. We need more teachers in the church. Qualified teacher. Called by God and prepared by God and sent by God. Teachers that are led by God's Spirit; understanding and know the word. Because our children are suffering because of this. They got issues and questions that they need answers as well.

Totally agree that you need a balanced youth ministry. I don't think the answer is longer messages although I think it's fine if you do speak longer. I think it's building relationships and helping them to apply the message to their lives. I personally try not to speak over 20-30 min and have our small group leaders follow up on relationship and discipleship. Do we know our students, what they're going through, what they're struggling with? Speaking at them for an hour won't help you with that.

If I didn't have a strong hunger and a firm foundation in the Lord, I would've been so lost when I got to college. So many people I grew up with who are Christian have double lives because they were TOLD to be instant in season and out of season, but we're never SHOWN HOW TO ACTUALLY WALK THIS WALK OUT IN REAL LIFE!!!

Youth ministries really need to focus more on ministry. Youth are playing games all the time, spend time discipling, strengthening friendships, and teaching them how to evaluate the world through Scripture. Youth ministers need to be a mentor, not a game leader. (So thankful for my youth ministry).

I wish that Youth pastors would understand this. This is why going to youth groups never worked for me because I didn’t want to go for an hour and play games and then learn about God for maybe 10 minutes. The amount of followers you have, does not account to how many people you have helped saved. I don’t think that Youth pastors understand this. This is not to say that this applies to all youth groups

For grown adults needing serious guidance. Give your kids the same free will God gave you and they will choose to eat pizza and play games and try to enjoy life. Isn’t that what what heaven will look like? Just fun and jokes and happiness all the time. Being fired up?
