I'm French, been a rugby fan all my life (played in school) and I'm always happy when I see American people discover rugby and enjoy it. There's a video called sth like Rugby rules explained to NFL/American fans that you should definitely watch to enjoy what you see more. Die Hard rugby is a great channel, but then you could also watch extended highlights of great rugby matches, like championships finales etc. The semifinals of the 1999 Rugby World Cup between France and New Zealand for example is a piece of history.
Some basic rules when tackling are: You cannot have contact with your opponents head. You can't tackle someone who doesn't have the ball. If someone passes the ball just before you tackle them then the referee has to decide whether you could have pulled out of the tackle. If your opponent is jumping to catch a ball, you cannot tackle them whilst their feet are in the air.
Rugby has those jukes, which they call them "steps". The video you really want to see for that is called "When Rugby Steppers Humiliated Opponents". Trust me, you will love that one!
Anyone else from the UK remember playing rugby in school during the winter, when the ground was frozen (and covered in frozen tread marks or footprints, etc). It was like diving face first into concrete. Painful, but good fun (I’m 54, so maybe I’m looking at these memories through rose tinted glasses)
I remember and playing on flooded pitches during the wet months. I scored a great 90 yard try one game and the teacher disallowed it as I didn't dive in to the big puddle!😅
I played rugby in the highvelds in SA while in boarding school as a kid. It was never fun. Dislocating frozen fingers on the concrete blocks was a norm and 40 years later my fingers look like skeleton keys as a reminder of those shitty days.
When it comes to Rugby jukes/steps, you will definitely want to check out the magic feet of Cheslin Kolbe! And if you want to satisfy your taste for Rugby hits, then the classic Rugby Hits Till I Collapse will definitely satisfy your taste buds... and don't worry about all the blood!
We only had rugby in winter as a kid in South Africa, it was played by 90% of boys. It's a great way to establish your position in the tribe. Everyone has a role to play no matter the size and gets taught to play by a gentleman's code even while you're stomping on backsides clearing the ruck. By the time you're a teenager, you know what position someone plays just by looking at their face; if it's puffy and they have cauliflower ears, they're a forward like me. If they had perms and painted their nails, they were a back. And if they looked like a little lesbian, they were probably a half.
It's great to see you enjoying rugby. You said you don't see too many players juking / side stepping, there's definitely a few good videos out there. Rugby has some fantastic side steppers. As you are learning about rugby I though I would recommend checking out "Rugby 7s" its the same game played on a full sized pitch but each team only has 7 players and its played 7 mins eachway. For a full game 7s would be great for you as it shows all aspects of the game, when it comes to the rucks and mauls (fighting for the ball) you can see what's happening easier and learn as there's less players. I played amateur rugby for 20 years and it's a fantastic game.. you do need alittle disregard for your own health haha.
As far as side-stepping goes, watch any videos of Jonah Lomu. Once you get over how amazing he was - like charging straight into five large French players and breaking through them to score a try - then realize that he was doing it all while suffering from kidney disease. He was only ever operating at about 85% so god knows what he would've been able to do if he'd been fully fit. Sadly, in 2015 he died from a heart attack that was related to his kidney problems. He was 40 years old.
Seek AFL fights Australian rules. Pre 2000s. Aussie rules can be brutal cross between football and rugby. Other to seek is Irish Gaelic football, especially the once year Aussie rules and Gaelic match with both rules applying.
RUGBY is the best sport on this planet. Hard hitting no bullshit. I’m so glad your reacting to this sport. I could tell you all the rules of rugby but it would take too long to do that my friend. Just came across your channel so subscribed and not because your whatching rugby. My name is Eamonn and I’m Irish from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️. About 95% of us here love this sport. I did play it at one time and it is hard hitting. The biggest team in the world to beat is New Zealand known as the all blacks. BUT Ireland 🇮🇪☘️has beaten them a few times and other big teams too. As we come into the World Cup in 2023 in September and the rugby World Cup takes place in France🇫🇷now Ireland is the number one team to beat in the world. Ireland is number one in the world right now. And Ireland has never won a rugby World Cup but they will this year for sure. And the U.S.A has its own rugby team too that can play in the rugby World Cup. 🇺🇸. You just can’t beat this sport known as Rugby 🏈🏉💪💪💪. Anyway you have a great day buddy. Catch up with you again. iRELAND is going to win the rugby World Cup in 2023. Thats me Eamonn here from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️. Up the Irish 🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️✌️✌️. Just messing LOL.👍.
Just FYI - that very first clip where you asked if the guy died - that was a tackle from an Under 14 schoolboy match between Paarl Boys High and Monument High. Those kids are 13/14 years old 😂 Also - the rugby world cup is indeed later this year. The opening match - New Zealand (3 time world champions) vs France (New Zealand's bogey team and the Host Nation for the RWC 2023) is going to be a brilliant game for sure.
I too grew up playing it non stop as a Kiwi... One of my brothers would've been an All Black but got knobbled at the pub in Manurewa... if you know it... it's the pub in the movie... Once were Warriors... I also went to school and played with 2 blokes who were All Blacks... I loved paying footie but I knew when they were superior... back in the 80's too... and funnier story... I went to France after training to be a Chef in Sydney. I'm more qualified than that BTW... So this bloke in France had a bar and he was so into Rugby he had a Rugby Bar in the city... I will track down the city... I was also wearing my All Blacks beanie... as we call them here.. I heard a girls say in french, as I speack french too... she said she hated that name! on my hat The All Blacks. God that was fun! you can't findme here on youtube... I am hidden because it's easier for me... Have a great day. Kia pai tō rā - Have a good day.
Hey @GoHamm TV so I have watched your journey into Rugby over the past few weeks. I appreciate that its a bit weird in comparison to American Football (Gridiron). So the basics of rugby are actually really simple. If you are on your feet then you can play, as in keep the ball and do what you want with it within the rules, when you are not on your feet you cant play. So when you are tackled and as a result end up not on your feet all you are allowed to do is roll towards your team and push the ball back towards them. Easy Right! You have said on multiple occasions that that cant be legal when people get hit in the head and you are right. There are 2 levels of sanction what that happens the basic level is a yellow card (its a bit like ice hockey where you spend time in the sin bin) so you spend the next 10 minutes sitting on the side-line and your team is down a player. The higher level is when its actually really dangerous to the other player and you get a red card and your game is over (your team are down a man or woman for the rest of the game, check out women's rugby its no less of a contact sport than men's rugby). As an ex player (old fart now) if you relax into the tackle it doesn't hurt too much but' and this is a BIG but' you are doing that for 80 minutes! When I was young I was a bit of a dickhead and I rolled my car, got up walked away and it was less painful than a rugby match. I played pretty much every weekend for 15 years.
I've literally just pissed the chair with laughter when he said, did he pass away when the kid tackled someone! The kids are more vicious than the men and they dont need any of the girly pads like americans lol. 🤣🤣🤣
When i was at school we had a game called deck. Essentially we had a ball and the goal was to just hold the ball as long as you can while everyone else on the field tried to deck you (tackle you). I remember one kid got folded in half so bad they had to give him injections into his lower back.
A 'hospital pass' is a common term in rugby... the video kind of shows some of these. Rugby is a really good game, don't be put off by the selective hits.
i as a brit love it when americans say things like there aint no sport rougher than AAAAmer..ican football.....then they watch rugga ...that shit changes there minds ....
It’s a great sport. The World Cup is coming up soon can’t wait. Irelands going into the tournament ranked as the best team in the world so hopefully we can do it. 🇮🇪☘️
Got some good new for you, rugby season is just starting, check out the All Blacks doing the Hakka before a game, and imagine your self in the shoes of the opposing team.
It amazes me that NFL is LIFE to so many in the US, yet they no clue that it is fact a product of rugby. In fact football is a way of life to many towns and communities. Most people are absolutely nuts for it. Yet hardly anyone knows that it stems from rugby. Back in the 1800s the British took rugby to North America, and over time it’s changed into what the NFL is now. It’s funny to me how there’s so much passion for football and that it’s life for so many yet they have no clue where their beloved sport comes from.
Ive played rugby for 6 years, after second year, i didn't feel most of the hits/tackle. But i had a couple of bad ones, one time i passed out got tackled and my face hit the ground, shoulder dislocated, finger broken, a couple of cuts at head level and two times my nose broken. In prime i had 198cm and 120kg.
I’m a Welsh girl so I love rugby but I married an English boy so there’s a bit of argi-bargi between us when wales 🏴 and England 🏴 play each other 😊
The problem with this video it shows the hit but not the continuation. 99% for the hits the player continues and passes the ball the other 1% might need a cold sponge but they get up and continue. There are less injuries in rugby than there is in the NFL.
The only way you're allowed to move the ball ahead of the line of play is by kicking it. Usually it's by a chip kick that punts the ball about 20-30 feet ahead so then your own players can legally (as in 'by the rules') chase after it. If they get a lucky bounce and regain the ball now they're behind the opposition with hopefully a clear run at the try line. Some players have manage to chip the ball over the defensive line and been fast enough to catch it by themselves on the full (without it bouncing on the ground at all) but those guys are like Usain Bolt in rugby jerseys.
I’ll definitely check it out … I been hearing about the AFL but I got a 7 day ban on this page so all my sports reactions will be on my new sports channel for now please go sub and check it out th-cam.com/video/TMoUEtzqHTU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=py0F9eMIvPUIhej-
Dont get me wrong , American Football can be brutal , but as a Brit , bought up watching rugby , I love the reactions of you guys watching it for the first time , and realising just how hard it is .
I started playing at 5 back in the 70s. They had a midget division. (Which when I think about it, it’s a funny as name). But we played barefoot and because it’s a winter sport. The ground was often white from the frost. Funny how as a youngster ya don’t feel a thing...
I had a huge laugh at your first reaction. And to be honest, I who practiced this sport at a fairly high level when I was younger, I admit that with hindsight, seeing this kind of image, I sometimes say to myself that I must have been suicidal. Besides, I can no longer climb stairs with a load because of my meniscus destroyed during a match..
You should react to the all blacks haka lowkey, its a traditional war dance for our indigenous natives of New Zealand, they do it before every game, its hype ngl
All the tackles so far are legal. You can tackle round the neck, stomp on an opponent on the ground or tackle and dump them on the head. That’s the basics. ❤❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thankfully a lot of the reckless tackles you've been watching over recent videos are now red card offences. There is little mitigation for any head to head contact. You can't lead with a forearm. You must wrap your arms. You must control your opponent's descent safely to the ground. Basically, trying to eliminate the shaking of the brain that leads to CTE / dementia, etc., in later life.
Rugby's one of those sports where you don't know if you'll enjoy it until the first hit you give/take. If you get up with a shit eating grin on your face like I did, you're hooked. Clue if you'll like it: did you play full tackle yard ball with kids when you were young? If so, this sport is for you.
You should watch a full game. Once you do you will get a whole new respect for the game. The referee will try to "play the advantage" instead of calling penalty or stopping the play as much as possible. Rugby Union is non stop and it flows so nicely. Enjoy the ride. Also you may enjoy "Aussie rules / Footy" it's a completely different game but Americans seem drawn to it.
Your reaction! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My brothers both played for local pub sides in the 80's/90's.. This is normal! Got to tell you, Women's rugby is just as damn hard. you need to do a reaction to that..
Some of these videos show foul play and even brawls which are not usual. Players can't tackle the man if he doesn't have the ball - penalty - they can be sent off for 10 minutes which can change the course of who wins. I gather that in American football a player can be tackled even if not expecting it - that's bad and because of the padding, helmets etc,, full power is used which takes aways the duty of care to other players which exists in Rugby. Some men play rugby even up to the ages of late 30s. You should really watch a full game and understand the rules and know what the can and can't do - it's a great game. The big beefy guys play Union Rules. The faster games, different rules, are generally Australian Rugby Rules. NRL of Australia.
You have a hashtag for rugby league but this is rugby union. There are some very important differences. League doesn't have huge size differences between players like union does. League has some great tackling videos but they don't have many off-ball collisions and contact that are highlights. FIY I was a much better player in club than I was in college. Mostly because I'd gone through a divorce in between those periods and I was able to channel the anger on the pitch.
Thank you best part about it is that I just turn on the camera and just be myself and it’s working for me lol but real quick I’m not sure if ur subbed but if u aren’t can u PLEASE sub I’ll greatly appreciate it
I’m subscribe bru 😂 u crazy … the thing about rugby is that pain is the aim…. We dont really get hurt cause always looking forward to getting hurt…like how you dont get surprised knowing you will be getting suprised
It always makes me laugh seeing Americans say they wouldn't play rugby, we all grew up playing it in school p.e classes
Scragg ma bro😊
yeah mate, same here
shoeless!
If it aint raining then you ain’t tranning 🥶
We played boys and girls in the same teams from age 6 in school great days

No blocking in Rugby but Jukes yes you can watch Cheslin Kolbe or Shaun Johnson highlights
once i watched soccer....but when you understand rugby...there's no going back...
Also the fans at rugby matches are so more respectful! Football fans let themselves down with there verbal abuse and violence..
Some basic rules when tackling are: You cannot have contact with your opponents head. You can't tackle someone who doesn't have the ball. My sisters 86 and 90 yrs old love watching rugby.😅😅

Mannnnn bro if he didnt pass away somebody better check on him often 😂 NO PADS IS CRAZY BRO I gotta respect everybody that steps on that field lol

Rubgy League is my favourite sport. St. Helens fan here. GO SAINTS!
That opening clip is from a South African high school rugby tournament

Quick question… I’m not sure if ur subbed but if u aren’t can u PLEASE sub I’ll greatly appreciate it
Great reaction. The most brutal video is Til I collapse(Doggies of War). The clothes line is illegal now.
Great reaction... rugby is brutal, after you get smashed you just walk it off and continue...
Lots of ''nervous laughter'' going on there.

No mate, they don't pass away they get up and play the rest of the game😂😂😂
Christian Cullen goat fullback. Longest individual tries ever
lol loved the reaction 😁, we have AFL and NRL finals for the next 4 weeks in Australia, should see if you can tune in and watch a game or two

New potter album dropped and man is out here watching RUGBY?! 😅 Brudda PRIORITIES
1st boy got folded like an omelette
FACTS bro lol
I started playing at 5 back in the 70s. They had a midget division. (Which when I think about it, it’s a funny as name).
But we played barefoot and because it’s a winter sport. The ground was often white from the frost.
Funny how as a youngster ya don’t feel a thing...
I had a huge laugh at your first reaction. And to be honest, I who practiced this sport at a fairly high level when I was younger, I admit that with hindsight, seeing this kind of image, I sometimes say to myself that I must have been suicidal. Besides, I can no longer climb stairs with a load because of my meniscus destroyed during a match..
look at the rugby world in France this autumn
Best rugby reaction I've ever seen
Dude made a doctor's appointment to check if he was in good enough shape to watch a rugby hits video 🤣🤣🤣
You should react to the all blacks haka lowkey, its a traditional war dance for our indigenous natives of New Zealand, they do it before every game, its hype ngl
Bruh you the funniest brother I have ever reacted to nice welcome to the sport they say is played in heaven 😊
Best game in the world
Played it , brilliant 😂
Watch the videos on Cheslin Colby if you want to see some juking.
😂😂😂😂👍 great first reaction
😂 thanks bro
I think this man should take a look at rugby league, I think his head would pop off.
All the tackles so far are legal. You can tackle round the neck, stomp on an opponent on the ground or tackle and dump them on the head. That’s the basics. ❤❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yeah definitely need a painkiller after this one 😆
😂
Notice no body armour like in American football….
Facts thats the first thing I noticed lol
Thankfully a lot of the reckless tackles you've been watching over recent videos are now red card offences. There is little mitigation for any head to head contact. You can't lead with a forearm. You must wrap your arms. You must control your opponent's descent safely to the ground. Basically, trying to eliminate the shaking of the brain that leads to CTE / dementia, etc., in later life.
Rugby league all the way
Rugby's one of those sports where you don't know if you'll enjoy it until the first hit you give/take. If you get up with a shit eating grin on your face like I did, you're hooked.
Clue if you'll like it: did you play full tackle yard ball with kids when you were young? If so, this sport is for you.
Fitness, the more fit the team the less injuries usually, unless there are high tackles or air tackles
i m french i love rugby
You should watch a full game. Once you do you will get a whole new respect for the game. The referee will try to "play the advantage" instead of calling penalty or stopping the play as much as possible. Rugby Union is non stop and it flows so nicely.
Enjoy the ride.
Also you may enjoy "Aussie rules / Footy" it's a completely different game but Americans seem drawn to it.
Look up players named Jonah Lomu, James Small, David Campesi, Schalk Burger, Faf du Plessis amongst others .....
A gentleman sport in a vilonent way lol
blocking is illegal in rugby lol
These videos always show the hard hits. What about all the head stamping in the ruck?
There’s an online learn English Rugby Union. Then when you’ve mastered that. You’ll have too learn Rugby league 😂😂❤❤❤
"if u have seen what i see in the video .... how do i BREAK IT DOwn ...." no need man... it was already broken.. totatly broken.... the video too.
Dude, average Saturday afternoon down ay the club.... we start playing lime this from 9 years of age
Keep checking it out lad. You will get too enjoy it. In the long run. 😂😂😂😂❤❤
He would have got up once he got his breath back and he’d have carried on.❤❤❤❤😊
How is JPR Williams' 'tackle' in France in '76 not on that video? Still hit of the century in my opinion!
You need to watch "rugby league big hits, here comes the boom" best big hit NRL video
its war without bullets
I suggest that you watch rugby's league fights. It's a real good watch.
You have a hashtag for rugby league but this is rugby union. There are some very important differences. League doesn't have huge size differences between players like union does. League has some great tackling videos but they don't have many off-ball collisions and contact that are highlights. FIY I was a much better player in club than I was in college. Mostly because I'd gone through a divorce in between those periods and I was able to channel the anger on the pitch.
sorry but the way you said i'm not gonna be able to watch this cracked me up....
That first tackle was from a school boy / high school player.
Smashed him bro! 😅
😂😂😂😂bro you will be alright 👍🏻🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I like your sense of humor. And you are in good physical condition when you join a rugby team ?
Thank you best part about it is that I just turn on the camera and just be myself and it’s working for me lol but real quick I’m not sure if ur subbed but if u aren’t can u PLEASE sub I’ll greatly appreciate it
We only use mouth guards 😂 why do Americans pad up from head to toe? Love your reaction though, made me chuckle.😊
Juke moves. Dude we are the best steppers out there. NFL aint got nothing on rugby steppers
Some of these are borderline AM’s
I’m subscribe bru 😂 u crazy … the thing about rugby is that pain is the aim…. We dont really get hurt cause always looking forward to getting hurt…like how you dont get surprised knowing you will be getting suprised
It’s a wonderful game to watch , but it can be brutal 😮
