I just came from a video showing a subway ride in 1986 to see the difference and wow it's like an entirely different city in just 10 years. To be honest I kind of liked the graffiti covered cars from 86 as it kind of showed it was a living city, this is almost too sterile for a city like NY, haha.

By that time, all the Redbirds we're long painted red and there was virtually no more graffiti. The 4 train had mainly R62s with occasional Redbirds. The 2 and 5 trains had an entire Redbird fleet. And the 6 train had about half Redbirds and R62s.
There was also a mass order of RTS buses with the series 50 engine around this time

4:17, wait a minute, this pair 4280-4281 is now at the New York Transit Museum (originally 4380-4381). Nice that this video managed to catch them. This is also the only slant-ended R40 pair that still survives today.

@boratfantaic I been hearing that propulsion sound everytime in years when the train leaves. Back then in the 1990s, D train sounded different because the air pressure was on the heavy mode to get the train go faster. It was young and 10 years old in new still at that time. Since it's old, the sound of the D train sounds the same still but the air compartment is diffrent to safely accelerate which takes a lot of time to keep in speed. I have passions of trains and I know all about it

@boratfantaic Plus it used to burrow the R32 air brakes in the 1990s and someties late 2000s to make even super fast in the heavy set which is a 75 foot D train. Today, the air compartment is realized as old usless
