Probably been said before, but I remember wishing to skip the adverts and get on with watching the programme. Now, I'm sat actually watching and seeking out those adverts (especially the Christmas ones)! Jolly good show, keep 'em coming and thanks for posting.
Just a thought :- These ads were, primarily, for UK banks and building societies (cards excepted) and were aimed at domestic audiences which allowed for a greater degree of creativity as opposed to the global audiences most tv ads are aimed at these days. It’s not just nostalgia, most of these commercials are actually entertaining. (My two penn’orth anyway)
I may have mentioned this before on one of your other bank compilations, having worked for the same bank for 35 years, seeing the adverts took me back to the happier times during my time. Great compilation once again Steve. 👍🏻
Other than me, who else was bribed by adverts from the Midland Bank in Smash Hits and Beeb magazine to become a Griffin Saver just to get a crappy sports bag, maths set and dictionary, and in the subsequent decades, have paid a fortune in fees and mortgage interest to the now renamed HSBC because they are too lazy to change?
I remember the bank that likes to say yes ' but they told me no 🤣 & remember the little pigs ie piggy banks ' worth a few bob now ' not sure about the bank though 😁
NatWest had the piggy banks. The baby piggies aren't worth much, as they were the easiest to earn, but the rest of the piggy family are more expensive.
No more building societies here in Australia anymore, they are now called mutual banks and just recently a heap of them are undergoing mergers to become bigger and supposedly better. I believe within the next 5-10 years we will only have the big 4 publicly listed banks and their subsidiaries and around 4-5 giant mutuals to choose from.
These are fab Steve! I used to work for the Giro bank in Bootle. Great place to work and a great bank. Government hated us and privatised it! Can't believe that's Dom Deluise from Cannonball Run in that Scottish Amicable ad! Oh, Midland bank. I went there once. They didn't give me any money, but they listened 🤣Thanks Steve.

Will do.

How many of these fine establishments have gone to the wall? 😨
Plenty. That, or they've been bought out by other companies.
Most have been bought out or swallowed up by bigger banks. Shame really, no choice anymore.
@@RetroSteveUK Ture. I guess the credit crunch was brutal. As is capitalism in general. 😨
Red 6 Porkins in the Amex ad.
(William Hootkins, also in Raiders of the Lost Ark as one of the "Top men")

@@RetroSteveUK TSB 😁
How times change, try finding a local bank these days..😔
I think a lot of them now have started joining up in one building .. multiple bank companies using the same premises.
@@RetroSteveUK My bank has changed owners and names 3 times in a short number of years

I've known for ages that famous Americans did commercials outside the US, but that's the first one I ever saw with Dom Deluise.
Did the UK avoid the whole "savings and loan" scandal that the US experienced back decades ago?
I think we probably had our own set of scandals.
