This game is indeed a modern take of Resident Evil Gaiden here. Glad that they actually brought back this gameplay mechanic back. This is why I love indie games.
Not gonna lie, your story about playing RE1 with no memory card reminded me how I had something similar happen with Luigi's mansion when I first got my gamecube. We didn't have a memory card, so me and my bro just left the system on overnight when we slept. So in our first ever run of Luigi's mansion, we got to a Bowser then died. And hinestly, wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
I have been seeing your RE retrospective videos popping up on my timeline alot lately. And damn it is making me feel old when I see they were posted 5 or 6 years ago. Love your channel keep up the amazing work
It is a cool game, i bought it after seeing one of your first impressions video as the graphical style and premise instantly appealed to me. And I was not disappointed! considering that just last week 15 billionaires put bunkers under one of many of their private residences, most notably Zuckerberg, I’m starting to think mansions with laboratories might not be too far-fetched 😂
I really liked the game but I think there is a lot of potential that hasn't been realized. I feel like the little interactions between characters could have been expanded on a little bit more. I also wished the little hidden mechanics for specific characters (something affecting the team long-term) would be more prominent to make choosing each a bit more of a decision based on what you have achieved so far. Definitely something for the team to think about if the sequel ever happens. And I do hope it will happen. Also (spoiler!): you don't need to kill anyone at the end. You can just run around them.
You should check Cursed and its 2 sequels, they are not very known but they sound very close to this. In fact maybe even Waxworks and the 2 Elvira games could fit.

Got this game based on this vid. Was having fun right up until the giant spider boss. Its a DPS check. In a damn survival horror game. I'm still stuck on it after two runs and now I just don't want to play the game anymore. At least the first stage/encounter has it keep damage between team member deaths. The second one, that is like two rooms after the first, must be done in one go AND has a final attack after death so if you have no healing and are one hit from death you are guaranteed to fail regardless. There is no "getting gud" for this with me, I can't do it. Can't even refund it now either.
Have you gotten the shield? One of the knights on the 2nd floor in the main hall has a shield you can get which does a great job at blocking the spider's attacks. It replaces your knife as a close quarters tool and you just raise it up whenever a monster is about to attack. It makes the fight much easier to the point I can usually beat it with just one person. There is a puzzle you need to solve to get it and you fight the knight holding it afterwards. I will post the solution a bit below in case you want to try and figure it out yourself. You need to have the medic check the pool table to get a series of numbers. Then check the chess game in the lab and match the numbers to their corresponding chess pieces. Then enter the chess pieces in the lock on the shield to get it.
This sounds like one of those games that is an absolute exercise and tedium. I legit thought this guy was actually Markiplier in the last few shorts I'd seen from him. Lmfao 😂 I was recommended this channel a week or 2 ago and just assumed Markiplier had made a shorts channel centered around his dog. The other thing that didn't help my misconception about this channel, is that Markiplier ALSO has a dog named Chica AND she's a Golden Retriever so Nala and her look similar! 🤣 They aren't identical though since Nala's coat has an overtone of auburn (reddish brown) so it's slightly darker than Chica's coat. Chica is a VERY blonde golden retriever lol. 😄 I absolutely love Nala's auburn toned coat! I may be a bit biased though because I'm a natural redhead with a more auburn deep red color rather than the more orangey ginger color (but I also like that color of hair, too lol) I think the reason I finally realized that this wasn't Mark is because of this short being filmed in a bright, sunny room. Plus, he's closer to the camera making it easier for me to (finally) see that he isn't Mark. Whereas the other few shorts I've seen previously were all shot in dimly lit rooms, with the camera being further away from him. So, I guess that at least to me, this guy looks like Markiplier if he's at least 6-8 feet away (1.8-2.4 Meters for non-'Muricans) and in a dimly lit area! That's a compliment though because Mark is a pretty cute dude lol. I'm also sort of curious as to whether or not I'm the only person who sees this resemblance? Does anyone else see it or am I just crazy? And did anyone have the same misconception about this channel that I did whenever you 1st saw this channel? 😋
I appreciate the comment, but I think there's a slight chance you meant to leave it on another video. I've been called a lot of things, but a Markiplier lookalike is for sure not one of them. HA!
I truly wanted to love this game and was 100% I would. But... the experience has been underwhelming. This is a ham-fisted response to people who wanted more classic RE games. "HERE, HAVE THIS! THERE'S A MANSION, UNREALISTIC SHOULDERPADS ON TACTICAL GEAR, UNDERGROUND LAB, ZOMMMBIES AND PUNISHING DEATH!" It's all just too much and with no new angles. The characters seemed to be fun, you start liking one of them and then get killed by nearly unavoidable, scripted event. ...survival horror, I guess? This game annoys me by trying sooo fucking hard to be HARDCORE. I've sunk hours into RE games trying to get S+ with joy. This game just doesn't earn my time and interest to get through it.
The visuals and gameplay look awesome and then you said permadeath and that killed it for me. I hate that type of mechanic in any game and is one of the reasons I never touched fire emblem until they gave the option to turn it off.
@@AvalancheReviews i think you'd find it an absolute treat. I still love it to this day. I don't know that I would classify it as totally survival horror, but it has a bit of that feeling with permadeath of Marines and switching Marines on death.
I would be very careful about not choosing to nerd out about resolution et al. Listening to the crowd on this could easily take you from a unique and interesting channel to a generic channel ( think about what has happened to modern video games and movies ). I would ask that you at least add it as bonus content past the 'end' of the video so that people who are interested in what you have to say can have access to it.
This game is indeed a modern take of Resident Evil Gaiden here. Glad that they actually brought back this gameplay mechanic back. This is why I love indie games.
It took me a long time to really see indie games as competition to the triple A space, but I think now I get it.
Plus the whole concept of literal dying and death is perma and you need to continue off from there
Hopefully we'll see more indies revisit these different gameplay quirks from games of old.

Honestly I'd love to see how you feel about aliens infestation on the ds
I've always been interested in that one. Mostly because of the great looking sprite art.
@@AvalancheReviews i think you'd find it an absolute treat. I still love it to this day. I don't know that I would classify it as totally survival horror, but it has a bit of that feeling with permadeath of Marines and switching Marines on death.
*huge Jill inspired shoulder-guards on every character*
Instant buy.
You have to support good character design
Have you done any videos on jade cacoon?
I haven't, but i do have a series on underrated RPGs. That definitely belongs on one of those one day.

I was there! 🎉
No you weren't!!
YWDHT has more syllables than You Will Die Here Tonight lol
But it happens wayyyy less often
I was very stoned when I commented this - please don't think I was being critical lol. And to your credit, actually typing YWDHT takes way less time
Have you heard of Fear & Hunger?
Sure have. I featured it in a video of modern RE-like games a while back. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
@@AvalancheReviews which video? I don't remember it at all. 0_0
@@AvalancheReviews I've been watching those, too.
Oh don't you worry. I'll never stop nerding out about resolution. I was just saying that the stutter probably wont bother people as much as it did me.
Les gooooooo 🎉🎉🎉
