    Great tip of snipping the center first before sewing the squares together. I have made one quilt with this block already. I plan to make a 2nd quilt with these blocks. Thanks so much Robin for sharing this informative video.

    I don’t have a favorite quilt block. Your tutorial gave an idea of something I want to put in a freestyle bag I’m making.

      Excellent! I love when someone gets an idea from one of my videos. I do that too with other creators videos. Have fun!

    Love your fussy cut butterfly. This video reminded me of the S in S quilt I started in 2015 (I just checked my folder) and I made 20 blocks with a flower in the middle of each one (cut from a new sheet from the charity shop). Can't remember why I didn't finish the quilt at the time 🤔 as I enjoyed the process, watching the blocks grow with each round. I'll share a photo with you. A project for another day 🤗

    great tutorial! Such a simple but brilliant idea to snip the fabric before sewing! I cannot believe I had not thought of that. Another reason to watch tutorials, even if you have made the blocks before. You never know when you will pick up a great hint to make it easier and/or better. As for favorite quilt block...I would never tire of the log cabin...so many ways to arrange them. I have always loved what people call the churn dash.

      I love a scrappy log cabin. My crumb blocks always end up as wonky log cabins. Exactly! Even if I know how to make something I’ll still watch a bunch of videos looking for that little nugget.

    Thank you for a great tutorial on this block. I have been saving up fun fabric to make an I spy quilt and this will be a great block of it.

      This block would be fun with an I Spy center.

    Hi Robin, My favorite block is the Kaleidoscope Block. I am almost finished w/my 1st quilt using thrifted fabric that I fussy cut 60° petal wedges & actually appliqued to the background square. I made mistakes but I love it. Soon it's off to the long arm'r for quilting. I can't wait. Thanks for sharing your blocks..I love them both.

    Tried ths technique and love it when I do not mind cutting off points. When I get passed a set of blocks that are not all the same size, this will be my "coping frame" solution. Thanks for the easy math. This is what I did to prepare for cutting the X with scissors: place the plain square on the rotary cutting mat and draw both lines with a rotary cutting ruler. On the second line, DO NOT move the ruler. With the rotary cutter, slice on that second line in the middle. About an inch slice is plenty.
    Thanks for a great video, Robin! Liz in Houston

      Thank you for the tip. I can easily see using the X technique on many blocks. It’s fun with fussy cut or novelty centers.

    Thanks for this informative video. I don't have a favorite block. I also haven't yet met a block that I didn't like. 😉 I started with hexagons and irregular shapes, then I made several patterns by Jaybird Quilts with 60° diamonds, half hexagons, equilateral triangles, and blocks made from those. Then I started making more traditional blocks with the 100 day 100 blocks quilt along. I have done crazy blocks and have a project started with no blocks and lots of irregular shapes. There are new blocks and techniques to try. It is all fun! 🙂

      Yes! There are so many fun blocks to make. Have fun trying some new ones. 🧵🪡

    That first block with the brown, orange and light blue - I remember thus technique from quite a few years ago in a book (can’t remember the author’s name!) but it was called something like “an exploding block and did several rounds of that sewing and cutting to corners. It’s still a very interesting way to sew a block and looks very nice. The other way is more if the traditional way of creating this block. An easier way is to use foundation paper piecing (keeps me from cutting off the points and makes them end just right. I do enjoy these videos very much and always learn something new!!!!!

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, exploding block is how I know It too. I do have a video for paper piecing an economy block. Great for precision and scraps.

      @@rsislandcrafts I actually found that earlier video a short time after posting. I’ll be sure to watch it!!!! It’s really a very interesting way of making a block and it doesn’t bother me at all about cutting off the corners - makes a very interesting and different look!!! Thanks so much!!!

      @@sandybruce9092 you’re very welcome. I don’t mind cutting off the corners either. I actually prefer It most times. It’s okay for me because I know that’s the way it’s supposed to look. Technically we didn’t cut off the corners 😁
