      Yucky vegetables! I have enclosed 40 tomato plants. In a 10 by 8 x 7 foot tall little Greenhouse. The plants are obviously over 10 feet growing under the top of the ceiling. Harvested of pounds? since the middle of July. Temperatures now or below freezing at night. I've got a lot of pounds of green tomatoes. I don't think my daughter is going to be sick of making salsa for another couple of months. It looks like from where you're from you should still have tons of tomato plants 20 ft tall!

    I am growing some microgreens under grow lights in the basement. I'm currently using seeds that failed to produce completely (they were not from you), but I had some purple broccoli that never produced heads and some Romanesco that didn't produce heads. I'm using up some other extra seeds to make room for my 2019 seed collection. I'm hoping the nutrition boost will make me healthier. :)

    Thank you so much for this very clear video! I have tried growing micro greens indoors a few times but a problem I repeatedly get after a promising start is mould on the surface of the soil, and tiny white flies eating the greens. Do you have any tips for avoiding this? Most of my pots don't have drainage holes but I try hard not to overwater so I don't think that's causing the mould.

    So I sat them outdoors then we got lots of rain and drowned them real good!
    They grew though lol I poured out the extra water and harvested😁
    I then ordered Good Dirt and began again 😁💯👏🏽👏🏽

    Your seeds germinated excellently I was 😲 shocked how quickly I saw growth!
    Question are they supposed to be leggy?
    I covered lightly with good dirt, should I have left them naked please?

    My hubs just picked up some containers for this. I'm so excited! Now I just need to pull the lights out of the garage. I'm going to bring a couple of my tomatoes plants in before it freezes. I have a few really good pepper plants, too. I'm taking full advantage of everything we grew in the outside garden for as long as I can. Vine tomatoes can live for years, can't they?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are going strong, Jyl, good for you! Tomatoes can last for a few years as long as they don't freeze. It's a challeng to grow a full size tomato indoors. It can be done, but they need lots of light. I tried a few years ago, but didn't have enough indoor grow lights on them. I think it would work better with a smaller variety of tomato, like my fav Tiny Tim. I can't wait to hear how yours do! Thanks for watching!

    • @jyll.7132
      @jyll.7132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just hate the idea of winter. I'll trim the tomatoes back before I dig them up. They're about 8 feet tall. My 8 yo won't let me get away without at least trying to save a couple. She put her whole summer into these plants. I have a 1000w and 850w light with different light spectrums to mimic veg and flowering stages. Those tomatoes and peppers will go directly under the flowering light and the lettuce, herbs and kale under the veg light. I've got about 2 or 3 weeks before I'll fire it all up.

    You should have your own CaliKim smart pot in a low oval 1 gal size, or roughly the size of your galvanized ovals that you are showing here. I picked up some 1 gal grow bags, but not nearly as much surface area. I also got 2 gal sizes which will be good for lettuce greens, but way too great a depth for these microgreens.

Just started to soak some pea, sunflower, and bean sprouts a little earlier :) Finished off a batch of peas and radish with the morning eggs too. With a heavy white frost this morning and snow possible tomorrow, well inside with artificial sunlight carries the moment.

      Not uncommon for a light frost by now, something fairly easy to handle with a sprinkler. This seems to be a lingering hint of winter ahead as repeated frosts and freezing have hit. Microgreens are fun to enjoy with the wide variety available. Be fun to see how the plants react to the dry of a hot air space heater too :)

    Hey Kim, loved the video you make it look so ez! How much light do microgreens need when grown inside and does it have to be in a window seal?
    Also, can you tell me the how many bags of "Good Dirt" does it take to fill a 10 gallon grow bag?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sally - they do need to be near some source of natural light or a grow light. Mine are on my windowsill all day, but you could grow them in 3-4 hour of light per day. Experiment and see what works best for you. Smart Pots has a handy soil calculator at smartpots.com/price-range/. Looks like a 10 gallon needs about 1.5 cf of soil, depends on which size Good Dirt soil you purchase, they come in various sizes, check it out on their website. Thanks for watching!
