It's hard to believe this recording is almost 70 years old. The sound is superb and it is one of the greatest interpretations of any works by Brahms. The trio is undoubtedly Brahms' leading piece of chamber music and here the second movement is a pure joy to listen to. Thank you TH-cam for making it possible for me to hear it again, it is 63 years since I first heard this recording when I was 11 years old.

A magnificent performance- the recording of remarkable clarity and balance- of intense calm and composure, yet with such vivacity, unbounded energy, sincerity, instruments of extraordinary purity and beauty of tone, all the way perfectly phrased, paced and built, in reverence and tribute to Brahms, their inspiration

This trio is a miracke, beyond any opossible comment. How can a composer imagine the two first movements, in particular? As soon as tge first measures, we are in a miraculous word. The develeopent has been reworked many years after the composition and considerably changed for more concision. . The same applied to the second movement, which is a kind of model that we will retrieve in many works to comme. This trio is a precious jewek?
It is very difficult to choose an interpretation. A lot of viruoso have been captured by the beauty of rgis trio and have rendered it in a splendid way. Here, oistrakh, Knushevitsky and Oborin offer us a mervellous interpretation. Oistrakh and Oborine signed what was for long concidered as the best interpretation of the sonatats for violin and piano of Beethoven. They enter this miraculous work with all their experience znd render this trio isn a perfect way.

Präzise und zugleich lyrische Aufführung dieses romantischen Miesterwerks mit perfekter Synchronisierung aller Instrumente. Die Tonqualität ist erstaunlich hoch als eine Aufnahme von mehr als sechzig Jahre vor. Einfach wunderbar!

Wonderful photo. Oistrakh and Oborin in their youth still had so much music to share. I am not aware of Knushevitsky’s work outside of this trio.

Studio recording, Moscow, 22.XI.1951 See the above. These were made when Stalin was still alive and well. In the "terrible" Soviet Union where most people were living only in gulags :-). The question though remains: for whom these people were playing? :-)

With all my great respect to these Russian musicians - from the first sounds on they are missing the German romantic spirit and style of the composer Brahms. Compare their playing with that of Suk/Starker/Katchen or the Beaux Arts Trio e.g. - and perhaps you will hear the essential difference...
