My latest copyright issues: I make a video and you see it a month later. It is what it is. I've made a Ghost playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL4AJSz4NMTbyejU7NBGrLlY2-1VC4g39L.html Next Ghost video is Dance Macabre. You'll see it some time in June! Thanks for watching! Enjoy your weekend.
There's nothing like going to a ritual and watching thousands of fans singing along. Truly a religious experience. A praise worship. Not to God. Not even to Satan but to humanity. Just people getting together and sharing a experience. Truly beautiful.
the video is really what completes it, couldn't agree more. Hearing the song in a vacuum, its still very good, but it doesn't have the same satirical oomph.
This one is a troll of worship music, with a dark twist. Square Hammer was recorded late during the Meliora sessions, but didn't fit the vibe of the overall album - which has a spookier/darker feel. Square Hammer was part of an EP (Popstar) released after Meliora. It was a big hit - and my introduction to Ghost.
Tobias is the master of writing double meanings to make it fit the band or album. Although this song sounds sinister, He has said its a tribute to his departed brother.....and of course he means it both ways!
I really like this song, I grew up in a contemporary Christian church and this reminds me of the type of formula that the church would have for their worship music. So basically I see it as a worship song to Satan haha
Love your reactions. Glad you’re enjoying your ghost journey. Their songs are ear worms for sure, and give of nostalgic vibes. I can’t wait to see your reaction to the live in Tampa version of “Mary on a cross”.
Great video, Lauren 🙂 And welcome to your Ghost journey.. You keep getting pleasantly surprised, and confused 😄 about this band.. You will not be disappointed, I tell you .. I'm currently 5 albums and 8 concerts into this, and I'm loving every minute of it.. Going for number 9 at the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, late this June. First of all.. as you have already noticed.. You can't fit Ghost into a single category. Tobias Forge, the founder, vocalist, master genius of it all, is behind all the Papa Emeritus characters and all of the band lore. He writes mostly all of their material, but sometimes he co-writes with others. He is heavily rooted in the 80s and even the 70s.. and he is all about writing music that is fun to play.. and that is entertaining. And that's what it's all about. He is an entertainer, while mocking religion, the church and faith at the same time. "He is" is actually sounding as charismatic as any christian song, using the metaphors of "shining and the light" and the "Without whom I can not see". Although it's pretty clear who "he" in the song is I guess. 🙂 For every tour cycle, Tobias does hire session musicians.. Heck they have had famous guest artists on stage without people knowing who or when... Even tho, the tour band has been pretty stable for the last 2 or 3 cycles now. So, you have now listened to Ritual, Year Zero, Cirice, Square Hammer and He is.. So what's next? Well it's up to you.. As I understand, you are going with "Dance Macabre" next time.. that would again be somewhat different than the ones you have already listened to.. That song will also throw you headlong into some of the bands lore.. Can't wait for that one 🙂 Some other recommendations for you.. If you'd like to check out tracks from their latest album "Impera", you could listen to '''Kaiserion", "Call me little sunshine", "Spillways" or "Griftwood".. Wanna continue with some slow ones, try the beautiful "Life Eternal" from the "Prequelle" album or "Darkness at the heart of my love" from the "Impera" album. More into heavy stuff, try "Faith" from the "Prequelle" album, or "Mummy dust" from the "Meliora" album. Finally, I'd like to challenge you.. to yet another different sounding Ghost song.. Try some metal reggeaton.. Do "Twenties" from the "Impera" album.. 🤘Remember.. if you have Ghost.. you have everyting 😉 Looking forward to the next one.
"I will continue to like them until I no longer enjoy them" This has been my rule w Ghost, in the reverse: When I stop tapping my toe, I'll start hating Ghost. I'm still tapping
There were a few Christian radio stations that played this, assuming it was “Christian”. Of course, they never listened to the words…. until they were figuratively smacked in the face.
A praise and worship song for The Fallen Angel. You know, the one who led the Rebellion. Be careful. Anyhoo, my favorite song from Ghost is From the Pinnacle to the Pit. I'd recommend that one for you. It's more Metal. Love your show, Lady L. 🤘😎🤘
Hi and thank you for all your reactions here! 🙌 More fact about Ghost: They’re from Sweden and the singer, Tobias Forge is from a small town called Linköping. He presented himself publicly in a podcast, called “Sommar i P1”. Its a popular podcast here in Sweden around summertime! I think it was around 2017. It’s a interesting and very emotional talk.
100% on Square Hammer - was introduced by friends to first "Hunter's Moon" and "He Is", discovered "Square Hammer" and then "Dance Macabre" on my own and... my streaming recs were no longer the same. 😆 (I was first shown the lyric video for "He Is" which is *interesting* in and of itself, never mind the official music video.)
This band has tons of lore and albums that sound different from one another. From the songs you've listened so far are all from different albums except Cirice and He is
This song was firstly wrote as a joke for his wife (it was "She Is"). Years later he worked out on the lyrics to make it a homage to his older brother, who passed away, and was a big inspiration to him. But ultimately it turned up like a mock of a gospel song, but twisted, where the "he" is Satan instead of God. The music video makes it a lot more obvious when you watch it.
Wasn't it also a Dig at a Televangelist that went to prison for child abuse and Tax Evasion? (I'd have to look up the actual Article...since I don't remember the guy's name)
Found because of Type O, you loving my fellow Swedes is a joy. If you haven´t reacted tp "Bible" by Ghost yet, please do. It would be pretty badass if you could do a double with the original song by, Joakim Thåström "Bibel"
I have an old buddy who handles the music for the church I grew up in. I wanted to see if he would play this during the praise and worship portion of a Sunday service and see if anyone would notice they weren't singing about god. Some would get it, but I KNOW some would not and be standing there with there arms in the arm.
I like to see this to remember my first time with Ghost, it was back in 2012 with Ritual and I also asked who were these pple. I keep Opus Eponymous near my heart as there were no more albums by that time, and love every song, would recommend Prime Mover or Death Knell, this one live is 100 times better. From the last album Respite from the Spitafields and Call me Little Sunshine.
Hi I fell down the the ghost rabbit hole by accident flicking through TH-cam and finding your reaction to Mary on the cross live i think you should look at bands like nightwish sabaton epica and within temptation have a look 😁
Funny fun fact. They played this in a church in America because someone thought it was about God 😂 boy did they get a shock when they found out it was about Satan 😂
Cheers :) from Sweden. Well let me explain it Tobias Forge the lead of Ghost is kinda an agnostic like many swedes are. We are christian in a way cultural and such but the religious part has a hard time sticking so when we grow up we make fun of religion in a way and if you grew up in a religious home you rebel. Maybe thats what Tobias did. this song and the oficial video make fun of the ambigiouity of american religious cults you can twist and turn their teachings to sound either satanic or christian switch a few words wrong and you get a totally diffeent meaning. In Sweden we actually have some religious fanatics too that actually had tv time on national tv were they used "healing" and such just american religious people do atleast back in the 90's we did. Everything that happens in america eventually ends up in Sweden for good or bad ^^.
Ghost is one of the greatest bands of all time. Tobias is from Sweden and before Ghost he created an extremely evil Death/Black Metal band called Repugnant. He is a great musician similar to Trent Reznor in the way his band works and records. You can enjoy these songs because you know they are blatantly evil and satanic. Therefore you can listen to it for what it is and like it or not. I came from a strict Christian family and I know the difference and I enjoy it for what it is. I don't take their message and change my life around it.
May I recommend that you wear a diaper when you listen to (the "Live in Tampa" rendition!!!) Mary on a Cross? I had to change my underwear multiple times through my first viewing.
It was shot down by Tobias in a 2019 interview that Dave was an "occasional drummer" for Ghost. Tobias did confirm in a 2022 interview that Dave did in fact play one show with them.
Ghost has disrupted some conventions about heavy/hard rock and some people don't like having their turf uprooted(Grunge is a good example), not me I've enjoyed Ghost. Every album is different Tobias doesn't try to repeat himself to often.
This song is one that actually is about christian believes and with a neutral stance. It's about Freemason rituals. That is the facts. Not facts is that Tobias is supposed to be a Freemason himself. That's something I've heard. I'm from the same small town as Tobias and we have a chapter here and most millionaires here are members.
You need to watch the little story clips they put together to learn about the band. It's like a mini movie. There's chapters 1-17 currently and there's also a movie.
You should watch the official video... sheds a different light on it. It sounds like anti-worship music. As for other songs, have you tried Rats? Or, off the new album, Spillways and Griftwood are both addictive. Kaisarion and Spitalfields are complex. Call Me Little Sunshine is dark and also addictive...
Amazing band that has soooo much charisma. You should listen to Bible. The live shows are absolutely amazing as they interact with each other and the fans
TH-cam only sides with the people who might sue them. And it likely isn't reactors. It will come back to haunt them one day. Because fair use is the law. And they have discriminated against those who use that law many times. But that is for another day.

Was just going to suggest Dance macabre! I look forward to watching your reaction to it💚

So pretentious
@@joshsaunders6392 what do you mean by that?
sounds great, base humanity, i like it!
"Mary On A Cross" to confuse you a little more 😁
Just wait until she listens to Mary On A Cross or Kiss the Go-Goat, she's gonna be SOOOOO mad at them for changing genres again! ;)
This song is great, but watching the official video, the song gets so much better.

I was waiting for this comment. ☺️
This is always true and I thought it was "Trolling: master class" - then they made the video for "Jesus he knows me" ...
Meliora is a flat out masterpiece . Not one bad song on it.
It is musical crack, but damn it’s tasty.
Have a great weekend Lauren!
Watching your Ghost reactions is my new favourite hobby. I would totally binge watch your reactions to their entire catalogue!

I saw some comments similar to this. I hadn't thought of that at the time, but now, that all I can hear. 😂
It sounds profoundly devotional... it is like an 18th century hymn.
Its one man "Tobias Forge" The rest is hired help :D

The best way i can describe them is modern Blue Öyster Cult
Blue Oyster Cult did not have these high standards for song writing
I think you'll dig Monsterance Clock or Rats. Stand By Him from first album is another solid choice.
I agree with all of these. Good picks
Great video, Lauren 🙂
