@@midwestghosttownI agree. We have been there twice. There are probable squatters living in some of the buildings. The second time, we noticed that a bar had opened, though it was closed when we were there. That whole area is spooky. The Crenshaw house and the nearby salt mines at N- word Springs are haunted for sure. When we found one of the salt wells in the woods the hair started standing up on the back of my neck and we decided to leave.
I crossed the bridge from KY over the Ohio River by motorcycle stopping in Shawnee Town a couple of months ago. Abandoned (I was the ONLY one I seen in town, a guy went by on a little scooter while I was there, about 30 minutes. there were a few houses, building RV's there, very few.), ghost town, I'd say there were some ghosts of the long departed who once worked at the massive bank building which is still there. The bank building is impressive. The 'biker' bar was closed, it was about 300' - 400' down the street from the bank, I did not go by it. I can remember stopping in the bar about 8 - 10 years ago, the bar may have been open then specifically for a "biker" event. A plaque in Shawnee Town told it's history, it was either the first or one of the first towns in Il, I hope like Hell the leftists dems of IL do no more damage to Shawnee Town than the OHIO River has done in the past..
@@hauntedmoodylady that bank has always grabbed my attention. Shawnee is high in my list to get back. Further north from there I had fun exploring Cave in Rock - that area is one of my favorites. Down to earth rural people. Just have to watch for the Amish along the road on the Kentucky side. Thanks for sharing.

Valmeyer incarnated twice. The whole town was moved to a higher elevation due to flooding from the Mississippi River. The lower Valmyer and it's remains are still there--still inhabited by a few folks.

That's the hard part about Ghost Towns (especially in the Midwest) they gradually fade into their surrounding and reclaimed by the earth. It's why I took a few months pause - just to make sure on the direction of the channel. I appreciate the update and comment.

@@WinnieTingal my family fell in love with southern Illinois when we were traveling to Kentucky - traveling through the land between the lakes area - and into Tennessee - We made stops along the way - I think Cave in Rock was one of those places along the Ohio in Illinois that really opened our eyes to he history - Shawnee Towns deserves a video - I need to get back and do some footage. - on the opposite side of the state - Cairo always grabs my attention. They call it a Ghost Town - which makes me sad, because I know that economic development is working hard to get that town going - it fits in the 90% rule.

@@midwestghosttown when I was in high school in the 1980s a farmer was clearing a fence row in Cardiff and found the old Cadiff bank vault half buried. It was a huge deal back then. Our school got to go out when they opened it. It had a lot of receipts and ledgers and such. Pretty cool times. My friends wife was born and raised in Cardiff and I went to school with all the kids from there. Not much left.but houses in the area.

I began to hate IL in the 70's. Every year after it got worse.
I'm so glad i left there. Spent way too much of my 70 years in that state. Now i'm in south asia and it's wonderful over here
