I've used the SM58 WITH the On-Off switch for 50-years without a single problem, under all conditions. To keep my conversations private and to instantly squelch any feedback issues, it is the only microphone I have ever used. For sheer reliability, it cannot be beat.

Nice to hear! I accidentally switched off an SM58 as I was performing at someone else's show less than two weeks ago!

I am 76-years old. I began my music career as a rock drummer in 1966. Still learning...

    Thanks for your video!
Well, I wanna add that on the SM58S you can lock the switch at the "ON" position.
Just turn the mic on, unscrew the little screw thats under the switch, turn the little plate that is holden by this screw and tight (is this the right word?) the screw again.
Now you can´t turn the mic off any longer :-)

      Clever solution!

That's a handy tip! And I'll return the favour by answering your English question: 'tight' in relation to something like a screw, is an adjective (a descriptive word). The verb (action word) of making something tight, is 'tighten'. Here's an example: "I will now tighten all of the bolts, until they are really, really tight". I have to say, your English is better than mine 🙂

After you have seen a number of speakers turn off their microphone by unconsciously playing with the switch, the answer is obvious. I bought a SM58 without a switch.

I think that's the right choice!

Never had a problem with the switch turning off, I preferred to keep my conversations on stage private, and be in control of the Mic

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

I only have the problem when others use the mic.

biggest problem is when the switch breaks lol. then gain, I guess now I have the non switch version;)

      See it as an upgrade!
