This is all well and good, and I'm thrill that it's happening! BUT! How in the world are they going to keep this utopia safe from the rodents that live in the badlands out. I propose they should rebuild from the inside out, rather than the outside in!
The people of Camden are not "rodents." They are, for the most part, honest, hardworking individuals who are trapped in dead end jobs that don't even pay a living wage because they live in a city that has become a poverty trap due to its horrendous school system and the residual effects of the economic disinvestment brought about by white flight. This plan might help the city by bringing in more investment and paving the way for gentrification, but it will do virtually nothing for Camden residents. What the city really needs is more investment innto its public schools and higher education and job creation programs which will at least give the people of Camden a decent chance of finding good jobs. But of course that will never happen, because the city government is both broke and unwilling to use their money for anything other than attracting big businnesses which will only take advantage of them by demanding tax breaks, and because suburbanites refuse to allow any measures that would have a lasting impact on the city, such as busing Camden students to their vastly superior schools. We need to work with the residents of Camden and other depressed cities and promote policies which are designed to actually help them if we want to see any real improvement.
Good idea to have the bicycle lanes segregated somewhat from vehicle lanes for added safety of both.
