Screamin' Jay should have been in Pulp Fiction -- this role convinced me he should have had more roles in other films. Great facial expressions, wonderful voice, dialogue timing perfect, creepy elegance. You can't teach this in acting school.
He should have been offered more acting roles. I'll bet he'd have done a great job. The best actors are natural at it and I believe Screamin' Jay had a natural flair for it.
This really was a brilliant film. There was a mystery to it where every body in the film heard the single gunshot which was at the hotel. Every body was near enough to every body else when they all heard the gunshot. There in lies the mystery. Jim Jarmusch at his best.
He has a deep powerful voice even when he's not singingHis voice makes sound bizarre but good at the sametimeJay has style also ,great fashion sense even in this time period
Any footage of screamin jay hawkins is epic to me he is so underrated and he is the creator of shock rock at the same time plus the man had style especially coming around in the 50s and 60s when it was hard for a minority or blacks to pioneer anything
This movie was made when small low budget indi films were really small low budget indi films, before the big studios infiltrated and assimilated the geniuses whose success had been revealed. These movies were not following a cookie-cutter format, where everything that appears on screen, every bit of dialogue, has something to do with the overall theme of the movie. One of the best things that made indi movies so great was some scenes were allowed to ramble from the primary story and unknown actors were allowed to improvise. Relatively unknown actors made for more believable characters for the audience.
Hawkins was in the movie A Rage In Harlem, I had not known that until I started to research Hawkins, the movie just happened to be on one day, and there he was was playing I Put A Spell On You!
Nice post, ralf rt, of scenes from a very cool film. (Be sure to see the whole thing if you get a chance, folks, if you haven't already, half a dozen times). Hawkins kills me in this role with his lordly gravitas as he impeccably holds down the front desk in his obscure Memphis fleabag hotel during the wee graveyard-shift hours, ever-accompanied by his trusty earnest-but-ridiculous bellhop (Cinqué Lee). A mere sinecure for such a being, and he makes time stop, you're so interested in what he'll do or say next. So much to savor-- e.g., Mr. Tact: 04:57; Fearless Delegator: 08:51. Cheers.
It's an xlnt film ! I highly recommend it ! Quirky but if the viewer is patient, it really pays off ! Overflows with wonderfully eccentric performances !!
c'est une partie du film qui ne rend pas hommage a la beauté de ce film , si vous devais vous faire un avis , cet extrait est le pire qui puisse vous orienté sur la veritable orientation du realisateur , neanmoins , je ne suis personne , a vous de voir .

You know I never noticed that a very similar filming technique interesting how he did that. Their styles are very similar
The English actor in this flick who got shot in room 22 was in Pulp Fiction

Joe Strummer?
I think screaming jay is a genius and I agree
Pulp fiction is extensively overrated and a very weird movie. Screamin Jay too good for that movie.
The conversations between Screamin' Jay & the bellhop are classic. They make the movie.
I have a notion to second that emotion ! My fave part of this cult classic !!
My band got to open for for Screamin' Jay in '86 when he was being backed up by the Fuzztones. that gig... put a spell on me, what a Cool guy!
Clicked on this for Master Hawkins, but since I haven't seen this movie, I think I'll go and make that right RIGHT NOW!
Love his music!

Screamin Jay was so awesome in this film. One of my favorites of all time.
I have a notion to second that emotion ! He's totally awesome and amazing !
Nothing more rock n roll than saying to someone, “you should buy your clothes from Lansky’s.” That’s where Elvis bought his clothes from

This video sets such a strong mood... It can make you watch bad things happen in a very relaxing way..
Screamin’ Jay is cool here. The Japanese couple at 0:31 is just adorable! Jay’s not screaming and stuff! Lol! His laugh at 5:02 is hilarious!
He has a deep powerful voice even when he's not singingHis voice makes sound bizarre but good at the sametimeJay has style also ,great fashion sense even in this time period
Amen to that !!
''Say, do you have any more of those Japanese plums? Or any other....exotic fruits? From around the globe?''
I love this movie! These two were fantastic. RIP Joe Strummer..🙏

Screamin Jay was so delicious! I'm glad he had such a low profile.

I used to have that fly on the reception desk--the wings lift up and the body is hollow, so you can put cigarette ashes in it.
I know what you mean. There was a brass one at a brothel that I used to visit from time to time. You lifted the wings up and there were condoms in it.
great film, thx for uploading this part
