    Its amazing that you got your hands on this camera. This in my view has to be the most niche camera of all time. Doesn’t mean it’s not super cool. :)
    Thanks so much for making the effort and sharing with everyone. Great work as always.

    That photo where the couple were invisible until magnified. And not just that, but the amount of detail rendered in that couple…was extraordinary! 🤯 that’s what 150MP MF sensor gives you, just amazing!

    The usual excellent comprehensive review. I will have to content myself with the X2D, however. The Phase One is remarkable, though.

    Thanks for this.
    But I "still" do not understand if one has the cash for the XC why one would NOT buy an XT for a tiny bit more. The "only" difference is the body. No shift, + shutter button and +handle (which can be added to the XT).
    I have "always" found the left grip pointless and now a right grip without buttons/dials etc.... WHY restrict to one lens and not shift? Just to save a very few K on a hefty price. The IQ4 is the same in vbth and you can pick the same lens and put it on the XT.
    Is the weatherproofing on the XC better than the XT?
    AND yes the Alpa is even more flexible - but larger and heavier.
    So the only selling point of the XC is the smaller/more compact size.
    The disadvantage of the IQ4 is the lack of a tilting rear screen - but one can use cascade and that is great. SO.......... I am sure from an IQ it is wonderful. But useability -vs- XT ???
    Or just but both......

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct - the compactness really plays here. Of course, the IQ4 can then be used on various other camera bodies without difficulties.

    I’m glad to have seen this camera in action. It seems to generate a different world view. Your neck of the woods is very photogenic. Those secret doors! Built by Zurich gnomes, most probably.

    Hi Matt
    Looks very utilitarian with no effort in industrial design or ergonomics, this plus having a fixed lens for a camera of this price point would also be completely unacceptable for me
    I do however hope you get lots of use and enjoyment from this camera
    Image output as expected is very impressive
    Kindest regards Ron

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ron, the price you pay for this camera is driven by the digital back IQ4 and this one you can still use on many other camera bodies.

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks, yours is the first real look at what the camera really is, a fixed lens, wide-angle camera, even Phase One's own website doesn't make this clear!, so good on you for your full unabridged look at it. ( I asked them, on the website, and they got specular in Melbourne to call me, in Adelaide to confirm this info.- bang on!, this is like a swc for hasselblad, only one lens!, but if you have a use for it, a great tool.).
    I shoot a lot of things, buildings and vehicles mostly, so I went for the H system, from Hasselblad, second hand, but this lens interchangeability , and with the simpler controls, for a non-pro, like myself, is a better fit for my needs, and with only a P45+ and a cf back (22MP) it is less of a chore for editing in photoshop.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      The expensive part of this camera is the digital back IQ4. You can use it on so many other cameras so as said, its really versatile.

    • @andyvan5692
      @andyvan5692 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mathphotographer yes, but for $AUD 60,000 for a camera set {XF price, with 80mm lens, +back}, and the IQ4 150 costing $AUD 20,000 alone!!, it better be worth it; but like the hasselblad system, you have three cameras, each interchangeable with the back, so for architecture, portraiture, or landscape, you have a body built for the genre, so it can make any one happy.

    At @9:00 : The reason why Rodenstock doesn't provide such lenscap is that the rear part of those lens caps would scratch the front lens element - especially for the 23 and the 32mm lens. I have heard of a few lenses returned for service because of that..
    Of course it is not an issue for your setup, having a protective filter in between - but probably vignetting is.
    I recommend to use screw in lens cap instead. It takes a bit more time to remove the cap, but I believe it is worth.

    Any downsides? I saw a comparison of IQ4 (with Schneider lens) with Hasselblad X2D and the amount of details was underwhelming on IQ4, less than on 100MP sensor of X2D which might be the lens to blame, although Schneider used to make really good optics. But then colors looked off too. X2D was way more precise.

    Thank you for your superb introduction to this incredible and expensive MF System! In your opinion, at what size print enlargement would you need in order to see a difference in sharpness and image detail over, say, the Fuji GFX100S LLC or the Hasselblad X2D 100?

  • @kclofter
    @kclofter ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice review, as usual. Rodenstock is not the only company that provides terrible lens caps - Zeiss caps are even worse. Hasselblad came out with a new metal design that is more robust, but they also are a bit unstable. I change all of my caps over to Nikon, exactly like your Hama.

    It's mildly incorrect calling this medium format. The capture technical quality really far exceeds anything I ever got out of 4x5 LF film.
    I think the best companion for the IQ4 is probably a view camera, with full movements like the Cambo Actus series. Man, that'd be really something.

    Thanks a lot for your effort, truly inspiring! I cant find the aperture in the screen grabs of C1, did I miss it? The combination of depth of field and 200% zoom sharpness seems almost impossible. At IQ4's pixel pitch anything above f8 should harm sharpness (a bit) but yet the DoF seems almost total ?!

    Wow what a great camera.
    Astonishing images, so fresh and crystal clear.
    Now this camera come in 3 flavours, 23 , 32 , 50 mm Rodenstock lenses, what made you decide for the 23 which is eq to around 17 mm on 35 mm ?
    Does come as a complete package with the Digital Back or as camera only too ?
    It is very impressive and congrats with that purchase, early Christmas in Zurich ;-)
    .
    I bought the Q3 too, although I am a 28 MP person, the benefits over the normal Q , which I had, and Q2 were so significant, I had to have one.
    Also thanks to your videos and explanations on the Q3 helped me to make the switch.
    Thanks to the 3 videos on the Q3 which made setting it up much easier and quicker than going through that tiny manual (my default setting is 36 MP so I have the benefits of the extra stop dynamic range and, plenty of pixels to crop and still have decent file sizes. And my C1 (latest version) does have some problems with the 60 MP edits (ghosting) which is probable due to lack of enough RAM.
    But 36MP is fine so I am happy.
    Enjoy your new camera, please show us some more images of beautiful Switzerland in a future video.
    For now, thanks for sharing and a great weekend !

      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks RS, like always I really appreciate your pro comments. I will show more images of beautiful Switzerland shot with the Q3 very soon. Was shooting on Furka Pass (James Bond road, Goldfinger). The 23mm focal length is the one I want for architecture, that's why I decided for it. Have a great start into the week and all the best from Zurich.

    Why? I have owned the IQ4 and Cambo with this lens. If you want compact, presumably for hand holding, buy the Hasselblad X2D. Lens are of equal quality with 7 stop image stabilization. Phase One has lost their way. Almost 3 years since their last firmware update.

    I still can't see any advantages over the XT system. One will use it 99% of time on tripod, and such FOV lens is definitely not meant for street photo. So, I would definitely prefer shift capabilities and interchangeable lens for the same price. Sightly bigger camera is not an issue here. Maybe I'm just not into this type of lens.

    the only purpose for this camera I guess is to show their private equity owners that they are still alive because from a photography standpoint such a solution makes zero sense. it is also clear they do not really care to become attractive as a system for professionals again but keep on recycling their outdated tech and parts as long as possible as boutique tools for rich amateurs......
