When given the opportunity to tour any part of the Discovery Princess in 2022, Adam chose the engine room, and a fascination with cruise-ship engineering was born. So it's not surprising Tested jumped at the chance to chronicle the building of Princess Cruises' newest ship -- the Sun Princess -- at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. One of the defining features of this ship is its glass dome and sphere. But ... how can rigid spheres and domes remain watertight on a ship, which flexes while at sea? Well. Here's how.

And that comes from someone who loves Tested and Adam and is glad to see getting huge sponsors and also appreciates all the engineering and hard work that goes into making such a flat out awesome modern marvel. You'll experience some of the worst air quality you ever will ... literally walking through the exhaust haze. And what's worse, the ship companies think nothing of running the engines while in port, polluting the city they are visiting ( hence a few European ports have banned the practice ). Your greenhouse gas footprint will be terribly high going on a cruise. And they spoil the port cities they visit. The Netherlands is starting to ban them. Disgorging thousands and thousands of tourists upon a city for an 8 hour stay. In time these ships will be banned. Do your bit and boycott them. *Adam .... forget the great tech blah blah. Fun Facts: A large cruise ship can have a carbon footprint greater than 12,000 cars, and passengers on an Antarctic cruise can produce as much CO2 emissions on a seven-day voyage as the average European in an entire year.
The most commonly used fuel type for cruise ships is heavy fuel oil, which is relatively cheap but highly pollutive. An average-sized cruise ship carrying 2,000 passengers uses 150 tonnes a day when it's at sea; in port, it requires an average of 50 tonnes to meet the liner's electricity demands. Ships like the Harmony of the Seas burn up to 4,900 litres of fuel per hour, 249,000 litres of fuel per day.
Cruise ships generate vast quantities of solid and liquid waste, often dumped into oceans and seas, affecting marine flora and fauna. Environmental groups state that the passenger's carbon footprint triples when one opts for a cruise journey as these 'floating cities' produce around 15 gallons of hazardous chemical waste every single day.
