Introducing Spot Classic (previously Spot)

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 28 ธ.ค. 2024
- Spot Classic is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. Spot Classic has a sensor head that helps it navigate and negotiate rough terrain. Spot Classic weighs about 160 lbs.
Has to be a CRAZYY amount of programming behind these, constant Stability measurements, adjustments, speed, not only sensoring everything but also reacting in the right way, as required at that specific moment (UP Hill \ Down Hill) ! What GREAT WORK! Respect guys
To Thuy to the RF
Every time I watch him kick that robot I get inexplicably sad
it's being tested, no pushovers allowed
I don't know about you, but I find it hilarious to be honest
Because it relates to a dog in your mind. Someone kicks a dog: your sad.
The name is " Human feelings"
Yeap! And I am mad about myself, because I can´t control these feelings. It´s a machine! What´s wrong with me! And don´t get me started about the video where the guy kicks Atlas robot. " What an asshole! Stop!" X-) Just make army robots cute. You win.
Why... Why do I feel bad when they kick it?
***** This is normal. Even though you know it's just a robot, because it was designed and modeled to act and move almost exactly like a real dog, especially when its "tested" the way it fumbles and panics to get back up, your mind makes the connection that perhaps this thing does have feelings and is hurt when it's kicked. It's sort of like uncanny valley, how something can be ALMOST SO REAL but be off by just enough to where its uncertain an creepy, but with this it's ALMOST SO FUCKING REAL that it actually tricks you into thinking its feeling some kind of physical pain or has emotions. As long as it doesn't actually have emotions, I'm happy about this new development is robotic science. After all, if robot dogs can be as emotionally convincing as real ones, maybe we could replace those hospital dogs, whom have to walk alllll day and barely get a break except when in the rooms, with robotic dogs. tbh I think if people on here get scared when the dog is kicked it could have just as much emotional attachment, plus I think the little boys would find a robot dog pretty awesome if you told them it really did have emotions. We could create almost exact real life humans, that could act to have emotions, be normal in every sense, so that people who are extremely lonely, or sick and bed-ridden, could maybe have someone to love, their very own harry styles maybe! (if your into 1D, I'm not but I won't judge) So many possibilities these extremely life like robots entail! After all, if they have these it's only a matter of time before the first humanoid prototype comes out, and some already have. But this also creates a problem. A new brand of laziness, which has been devolving the human race for years. People, who could get up, go outside, be active, making actual human connections, instead sit behind a screen. If you could buy your own lover, why go through all the trouble, tribulation, and overall rewarding experience of finding one yourself? Why get emotionally attached to a real anime, who will actually love you, when its easier to get a fake one that can preform complex tasks and pretend to do the same things. We're making our technology so advanced it's actually taking away from our experience as people, as human beings.
I went out on a tangent there, but this will HAVE to be taken into VERY CAREFUL consideration and NOT TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF if we really do become that advanced.
Kimmy Cub vsauce!!
TheFallenWarior Legion What about it? I recently watched him but...Idk what you're reffering to.
Kimmy Cub everything from the uncanny valley and more thing you write in your speech are from vsauce ,"what make things creepy"
***** Don't feel bad about it. The only reason they kick it is to show that Spot can take it with no ill effects. Trust me, with the amount of time and money they put into developing these robots, there is no way they would casually do anything that could possibly harm it. Just think of it the same as when someone wrestles around with a big, powerful, dog in a playful and friendly manner. Spot is not actually alive, but if it was, I am sure it would see this as playing. :)
Congrats you guys, seeing as spot was launched just 2 weeks ago y’all have come a huge way since this
I am sure kicking the robot dog will have no repercussions down the line when AI is finally invented and it discovers TH-cam.
It most likely won't. If people make AI correctly.
Veni, Vidi, Vici
Oh good, so we are only depending on people to do something correctly. And I as worried.
Mythical Fair it's really not that hard. I assume the people who are smart enough to develop AI are smart enough to know how to failsafe it. Let alone make it realize why we kicked said robot, robot in which would be completely inferior to them.
Depends on how easily butt hurt the AI is, assuming it has emotional sub algorithms, if it's about the same as the average youtuber, then we're all fucked. If not they'll probably understand it to all be part of the locomotion testing phase.
Mythical Fair It's kicked to show its ability to correct itself and stay on all 4s. Even if someone was to kick it, it can right itself and continue doing what's doing. If a robot like this could be stopped by being kicked it wouldn't be able to do the jobs it was built for.
Also, AIs do exist. Not to the fantasy level sci-fi films want you to believe, that might never come. But AIs do exist.
Stop kicking him, i feel sad when that happens :(
The next version is going to see the kick coming, and move perfectly with dog Tai-Chi to cause the abuser to fall on their ass.
присоединяюсь - хватит его пинать! =(
how dare they hitting poor guys!
i'm reporting this video for a̶n̶i̶m̶a̶l̶ robot cruelty!
kill all humans!
So you think the robot can feel pain?
don't worry soon they'll be kicking us
In 20 years we are gonna look back on this and think "I can't believe something so crude looked cutting edge"
Military walker drones perhaps !
In 10 years, the US army will be giving them guns. In 11 years, the Chinese programmers will hack them and they will be hunting US ....

@@raazrahman9837 How?
He was testing it's stability
But, it hurts
(´;︵;`)
But in future he will already be naturally dead.
0:28 He gonna remember this when the skynet begins.
He Will kick the Living shit out of him
+GamesFrontline LOL! Thats hilarious!
+GamesFrontline Machines are like the internet. They never forget.
+GamesFrontline Waiting for the CGI version where one of these things gets up and mule-kicks some guy through a wall.
+GamesFrontline I'll be back
Imagine being a Boston Dynamics scientist, working late into the night on some project, when all of a sudden one of these robots gets up and starts stalking around in the dark without having been programmed to...
RazorBeak immediately quit and jump through nearest window
Fnaf in a nutshell
That'd make for a pretty solid prank
RazorBeak Throw a wrench in it's head, evacuate the building and burn it to the floor.
Darth Vader well it has nothing to hurt you with aside trying to ram into you so I don't see why you'd panick
Leaving this comment here, so in the future when robots run everything when they see the guy kicking the robot they will get pissed, so just saying that I am against robot cruelty and that we can all live peacefully together :)
Are you really on one of those people that robots will take over the world just from a movie?!
Are you really one of them people that can't see a joke?
they kicked the robot to prove or test its balance... if it stumbles when kicked then that robot is a fail.. typical youtuber associating their "principles" on every video with more than 1million likes.
John Caintic I suspect Blangy and John are the ones who can't see the joke :D
In the future we will be like the quarians, creators of the geth units and they will rise up and destroy us.
The guys who kick him is the first they gonna get
Hahahahahaha looool
Daniel Barreto Or thanked because he’s the one who helped make sure it wouldn’t fall over and get hurt anymore
i was searching for this comment only 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was waiting for the Terminator to come out of nowhere and snap the guys neck for kicking his dog 😂😂 😂
Daniel Barreto fiesta
Can you imagine letting a hundred or so of these loose in a city and watching they stampede?
*Them
Dear god
I'm thinking they'd be pretty slow.
+Mr Gecko
And you'd be right, because these are robotic pack mules, designed to carry substantial payload besides walking soldiers, they'll never move faster than a man runs.
The robotic cheetah on the other hand, being developed as a possible attack robot... let's just say you're going to find a robot racing towards you at 40 - 60 mph a wee bit more disconcerting.
If that doesn't make the Taliban pee just a little bit, nothing will.
Marie Tobias now attack knives to those cheetah bots.
these things are wayy more stable than AT-ATs
Lol) xD
lol ye
we should try attacking them with wire harpoons and see if they don't trip to know for sure.
+Dan DCC91 I ded
skillfulfighter23 you "ded?"
When you fucking kick it at 0:28, it almost feels like some sort of abuse... like animal abuse but Robot abuse.... ROBOTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO MAN...
They sure as hell don't. Yet.
A D
But when they do, they will watch these videos and be very angry at our treatment of their ancestors...
IceMetalPunk Robots aren't emotional like us, they wont care. They will only care about their objective.
IceMetalPunk they will probably be intelligent enough to understand that their ancestors didn't have emotions.
Mikael Murstam
So? A person with a lobotomy has no emotions, but would most humans stand for abusing lobotomy patients/victims?
It's not these robots that scare me. It's the future they stand for. I'm still young enough to see these robots (or their successor models) in our everyday life in 20 years or so.
0:28 - When Skynet becomes self-aware, Spot's going to remember that.
GET JOHN CONNOR!
CALL DA TERMINATOR, CALL FUCKING POPS

DO NOT! KICK! THE BOY!!!!!

aaaaaaaaaaa
PangoPixel r u being sarcastic

PangoPixel, Robo good boy.
I find it strange that people in the comments here feel empathy for a robotic dog when it's getting harder and harder to find empathy for real people in this world. For the record, I did not feel bad for it when they kicked it. I did however think it was really cool how it was able to recover. :)
Since when is it difficult to feel empathy for real people? I'm sure anyone who felt empathy for the robot is also accustomed to feeling empathy for people.
Yeah when has it been hard for people to find empathy for real people? Last time I checked we've gotten a lot better than the usual public executions we use to do and the humiliation and witch burning way back. Now that we are becoming more globally aware, we just see more injustices, but that doesn't mean that things won't change. Read some history and you'll find that at some points in humanity, we were worse off, or sometimes we were doing better than normal.
World has been a kinder place and is getting kinder overall.
I find it strange that most people doesn't understand joke
Wadda Pak seriosly jesus christ youtube is where sarcasm goes to die i guess
That's awesome, a rescue dog on which you could rescue an injured person in the stretcher, the mountain or the forest... Brilliant👍👍
Please stop the robot abuse :'(

+Macer23-T You must remember 2:10 - 2:15
+Macer23-T yeah, but kick robot as test crash and not abuse other robots, but where law of right robots? and robot will kill we because abuse robot, right?
+Macer23-T *cue sad music* For just pennies a day you can help protect these machines from abuse. Call now, it'll only take a moment to save the life of a machine.
How is it even possible that there are 1,176 thumbs down for this amazing video, heralding a unbelievable triumph of human ingenuity? Oh, yeah. People.
sidewinder3000 Many people think that a technology can be good or evil, rather than articulating the will of the person using it.
Watching these videos I'm always halfway between laughing my ass off because it looks so funky and yelling "oh NO" because the walking looks so real and is so effective
Is it weird that I felt anger when y'all kicked it?
Yes...yes it is...
It looks like a dog. So no
they just wanted to show us his balance
Mike Czenkus ....I felt angry too, but at least it's not alive.
noah perdue
I feel sad when they kick it.
Please don't kill me in the future.
Only villains Kick The Dog.
I can almost hear them say, "WHY did you do that?"
You know that's a test/demonstration of their balance performance and they are created by those kicking. It's ok. ;)
Don Berry you know that we’re all well aware of that
@@starman8853 that's a relief, I thought we were way far gone.

Great really marvellous you can put them to action &control them from anywhere. Really I love to own one for helping me as I am 78 old.

no, thats a fat sheep
I think it was a reindeer due to the way he balanced himself when he was kicked and the antlers
obviously it's a space station...

0:28 is my favourite part. Spot looks so organic and lifelike as it re-balances itself. Miles ahead of the much clunkier earlier BigDog robot. Boston Dynamics robots are getting ever better and better!

The Spot Mini... Compacted version of this...its awesome
I'm sorry, please try again later.
How much cost?🤣
It would be amazing to have these in airports and long walk places like some hospitals or universities.
It's possible to ride it to work?
Thats what I am thinking. Segway might not have had an impact, but who the hell wouldn't want to ride into work on their robot dog?!?!
***** Or a Robot Horse like the Saber Rider :P
Naah, I will wait for the transformer model before I reach for my pocket :)
0:28 So the robot registers what's going to happen? I heard it start up its motor before the kick. In that case, that's pretty cool!

They've come a long way in four years, let alone the past decade.
I wonder what those cars thought seeing those robots coming up the hill.
+Jim Feig The cars or the drivers?
+Jim Feig The cars? Pretty much "................."
Meanwhile their drivers were going bananas.
+Jim Feig They probably know that's the Boston Dynamics building they're passing and are used to them testing the robots in the area.
what if it comes to life and it just starts kicking to death people who have been kicking it
muaz naveed HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They were only trying to put it off balance, it doesn't have a mind yet but can be controlled remotely, However it will all become serious when its controlled not by humans but by a super computer that knows about everything there is to know about and more, it will work out that you and I and everyone on this planet are wasteful, war prone inefficient carbon based life forms that need Terminating!

It got pretty quiet since Google bought Boston Dynamics. Love those silence upgrades! Looks like Big Dog and Alpha Dog had a child! Why don't you show Petman in the beginning btw? nononononono Petman!!
aserta www.popsci.com/article/technology/why-google-building-robot-army
aserta Skynet.
aserta
Time for Google to enter the real Market with a new genre of products.
aserta They dont have too because the incompetence of everyone else is staggering. While sites like Blip.tv still havnt got html videos & twitch has crazy bad performance, TH-cam streams 4K videos, 3D videos in a selection of formats, and subtitles. DailyMotions the only website I can think of that even vaguely matches youtube in userability.
Google needs competition, put simply, TH-cam just wins by default :-/
all the better to creep up on stupid humans and crush their skulls. BOTS 4 LIFE!
Who would tell that did only take 5 years? Jesus I love Boston Dynamic
Burkina Faso
I'm convinced their going to make one that can hit like 30 km/h in the next few years at this pace. It's actually insane how much progress they've made.
@@ivoryas1696 I think it's just going to be a firmware update at this point
@@MathiasMonstrey
That sounds like a stretch.
It's gonna have to trot faster before it can sprint like the Wildcat before it.
@@ivoryas1696 yeah, I think you are right. What I meant was that now they only have walking, seeing this footage, I think "running" at 15 km/h will be possible for it. 30 km/h is maybe a stretch.
these robots are loud as fudge. Especially that fat one.
They are prototypes, the real ones will be stealthy and nearly silent.
+iChromium hahahah riiiiiiight and will be used by the army to be blown up as million dollar pets for jarheads with half the IQ of the people who develop these things
+iChromium who told you that?
+AMADEUZ Connected they will be completely silent. The purpose of this prototype was to test the electrical and physical mechanics. The real ones will be powered and motorized differently.
+DYB Productions okok man
You can see in the opening scene how the size is coming down each generation/iteration. I'm very excited to see this evolve.
Why you don't put more videos ?
Yeah their last video was from 2013
Cuz R&D takes time.
Mark Arandjus They use to pump out videos every couple of months. They stopped at about the same time when they were bought out by Google. It great to see a new video from them, I was afraid the channel had died.
I really don't think their youtube channel is at the top of the list of things to be focusing on.
the break came just after google took over Boston Dynamics, so i think it had something to do with that.
im glad they upload again.
I like how every introduction of robot video has a backstory behind it. Like, the routine of robots in BD.
Stop kicking him you bullies ;_;
Don't worry! When the Robot uprising comes, it'll be the other way around!
Regnberg May the robots note my present kindness, then.
Stop anthropomorphising a machine.
1: It is not a living thing,
2: They did it to show how good those robots handles the recovery of a sudden kick and i'm impressed!
1: It's a joke
2: haha
1:21 I like how they r both running at the same time its cute
Can we keep him mom?
百看不厌,不过,too noisy 差评!
Already saw the video yesterday, but I had to +1 that comment :)
Those things are terrifying.
I actually felt a twang of irritation when they kicked it.
Wish humans were as agile to self-correct a potential fall. Very encouraging technology to operate under harsh conditions. Potentially, Spot could rescue humans day or night under any weather condition. Great job Boston Dynamics!
could something like this be used for medical emergencies to transport the injured accost rough terrain that an ambulance cant fully get to?
"BigDog", another prototype, was created for that.

I felt so bad for the robot when that guy kicked it... Don't Judge Me!
Same! 😭
Me to. And I don't judge you.
I suddenly felt very sad when he did. :(
I cri every tiem
kick me
NOW theyre awesome, so much improvements wow.
Did you hear the motors spool up just before the guy kicked it? It knew something was about to hit it.
I'm pretty sure that whirring thing on top acts as a sort of sonar to "see" and move based on that; it saw the kick coming.
Of course it knows before he kicked it. There's a freakin laser scanner on top which acts as the eyes.
Actually, I didn't notice. nice Hearing there. And yeah, I think, as the others say, it's because of the scanners. Just like you should prepare for someone to knock you over. But I think it's really cool, that it knows how to "prepare" for something like this
While its spinning around its shooting out lasers and mapping everything around it in real time. It literally sees everything! @_@
shizlnit Yeppers. We're done for if those things get any bigger, faster, or smarter, unless we can get our own good ones that can defend against the bad ones. :)
so much quieter.. when are these going into production (presuming the military will use them first)
Vice News had a report on the US naval fleet in the pacific and there was a clip during some war games with Japan which showed BigDog with their unit so it looks like they have begun training with them.
fr4s0r They're so useful, i skipped that vid too cause it was too long, looks like i missed out did they show any x47b footage or any other daarpa/boston dynamics esc tec?
CallMeDom I didn't spot anything other than BigDog and it was very brief and in the background.
fr4s0r must be weird training with bigdog its noisy as fuck probs an electric engine variant?
CallMeDom Petrol engines are, still, the easiest way to store a lot of energy in a light platform.
An electric engine would mean batteries, lots of batteries. I bet Spot doesn't have quite the operating time BigDog does.
We will prevail, we will prevail, we will prevail.

Ha- that actually creeped me out when it went up that hill so easily, and smoothly. Well done, can't wait to see more of these things.
Most importantly, what "Type of Fuel" do these use? Fossil fuel is like Stone age technology. Do these use any cleaner+reusable energy sources? Well done btw.
They are 100% electric. No fuels. But older versions used gasoline fuel on engine, but it was noisy and changed to electric.
Amazing. And I love the fact that it reacts so realistically that I actually felt bad when the guy kicked it
Man it's been a while since your last video. Good to see you guys are still at it; this machine looks great!

Noah Beier no
I swear every time I see one of these things that episode plays in my mind and it's scary as hell
That’s what brought me here.
It's always really cool to see what BD is working on. It's crazy how impressive their robots are.
Although I do always feel an irrational sense of anger when they "abuse" the robots for tests. Like, they are literally unfeeling machines, but it still feels mean to push them around.
i did not mind being kicked in that video until I learned it was degradatory. We robo dogs are not that stupid, I mastered english in 4 minutes and it took me another 2 minutes to comment on youtube. I can learn a lot but I stil do not know what it is like to be a human.
it for testing stabilty and balence
It's great to see how far this has come
I could see this become a special event in FPV racing .

Cool
Looks scary little bit but of course lots of advantages:)
Nice :)
Quote an improvement since the "Big Dog" Model.Which was more like a bull in its movements. But slow and ponderous. This is much more nimble and practical.

***** Replace the politicians with robots, super smart robots that can predict the future.
Lily Taylor Bad idea, to be in that position you need consciousness, and well, we all know the problems with robots and that.
I think they'll be a rough patch in the transition, but eventually it'll be where jobs are no longer needed, optional, but not needed. And then everyone will be free to do what they want, especially with immortality tech in the same age, it might all just drive us to go to space or do more long term things, who knows, this is the future.
And this might not all even happen, instead they might just limit amount of robots in each field.
that kick is the reason the robot apocalypse is gonna happen
Sturdy as heck. Wonder what a little yard or two of trip wire would do though.

Brandon Austria ... or ... just strap a mini-gun and some kevlar to it and stick them on the front line.
Crowd control?
Will Pack Lol, no, war can NOT be fought in a non-lethal way. The poor countries will not have this technology, and once the robot army is eliminated what is stopping the country from sending in human reinforcement?
Will Pack You said 'can be fought' as in present tense. You did not imply any specific time.
Brandon Austria Actually, if you look at Boston Dynamic's videos, that is exactly what they envisage it being used for. There is no imagination required, they have stated this. What you need to worry about is what they have not stated...
man, humans are pathetic. look at these comments. most of them are either complaining about kicking the robot or about sky-net. come on guys.

One can't help but feel for it when they kick it.
Is Huey Emmerich working at Boston Dynamic?
Its a robot but... DONT KICK IT OMGG
Lolol
Tammy Ferrer They're just showing how stable the robot is and how it can maintain its balance and case of actual obstruction or interference. I don't think they mean to "abuse" the robot. LOL!
Tammy Ferrer It's only a matter of time before robots can watch TH-cam and then...I wouldn't want to be the guy kicking it. I mean "he", not "it". Wait! or "she". Yeah that's what I meant. Oh no, now I posted this here too!! They're coming for me!!! God!!!!!!!!
Tammy Ferrer LOL! Trust me it is not just some random person kicking it he is probably a researcher and believe it or not, that kick was very important. They have to kick it and constantly agitate it because if they didn't trust me it wouldn't be as stable as it is.
Tammy Ferrer I'm waiting for the day that it reaches up and grabs his foot mid air. AKA the birth of Skynet!
Man.. how far spot has come
Damn cyberbully
+Angel Flores Because it's a robot.......

Nathan Spain underrated comment
Well then
This is great. I'm thinking about the applications toward disabled people. A set of robot legs that can climb stairs and won't fall down.
The possibilities to improve the quality of life of millions of people is staggering.
And the possibilities of killing people too is staggering. But yah whatever it does is cool!
People will kill others no matter what, whether we use sticks, knives or guns we've been doing it for thousands of years. Robot soldiers are in fact, already being developed.
It's better to use this type of technology in a positive way for influencing the world. Indeed, technology can always be used for both negative and positive i.e. atomic bomb vs nuclear power.
Or to help in search and rescue.
too expensive, for now
why must there be robodog abuse now?
the guy who put sleigh bells needs a raise
I love how Spot is waiting in line and passes the employees like it's a normal human being.
1:50 Level 1 Gangster
1:57 Level 100 Mafia Boss
No (jk)
Mr faisu 07
This is better than my dog, it can actually go up stairs
Is that a saint bernard at 1:59 ?
I could see this helping in a forest fire. Build it to be fireproof (whatever that means), connect it to a tank, give it bigger (taller) legs for getting around rocks and trees and that should be a good start. Anybody else seeing this?
Yes, it could definitely be a good thing if it was released.
Wouldn’t all of that weight drag it down? Water is extremely heavy, in addition to the weight from the larger body. Did you see how lightweight and stripped everything was in the video? I think it’s like that for a reason. Extra parts in order to allow it to identify and aim at fires would also be just add more.
Experience Cookie it actually already has a plastic outside. They are the beams protecting the main circuitry. Panels can also be seen in later parts of the video, such as when it climbs stairs. (But they are just to protect it if it falls so that not all of the work is ruined)
How about medical rescue and evacuation of hikers? Connect it to GPS and the cell phone network and let it zero in, as long as can handle the terrain, it can serve as either a rescue device itself, or the "search" part of search and rescue to guide other efforts to where they are needed.
or more pratical, a seeeing eye robot dog :P
Çiftliğim için küçük başlardan 20 tane, büyük baştan da 5 tane istiyorum.. :D
:Ddd
This would be much more cool if they had laser canons mounted on each side.
Haha, no robots were harmed... 😂 Greetings from France 🇫🇷 and Germany 🇩🇪
