Hello from Serbia!! Great video!! Can you please tell me what kind of hoops are you using? I make my own goat skins so I need hoops. Where to find them? Can they be made some way?

I have a couple of old calfskin heads that is stretched so much they an not tunable. Can the heads be re-soaked an turned in to be refitted on the drum? Thanks

Very late answer.... Yes, you can soak and re-lap heads. Not always successful, though, I have had very old heads rip at the creases when relapping.

where do you locate the actual flesh hoops?

    Great video!
If I had some old, broken calf heads on hoops, can they be untucked in order to save the hoop? Or can a head on a bigger hoop be untucked to be put on a smaller hoop? I can't find much info on doing this process in reverse, so if you have any tips, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Berry, glad you liked the video! To remove an old head from the flesh hoop, first try soaking it off. Place the head in lukewarm/tepid water until it becomes pliable; then it should come off the hoop easier. You can also just cut away the old head with a utility knife, but this obviously reduces the amount of recyclable calfskin you'll garner from the process. And yes, a head from a bigger hoop can make a great snare drum head (as in this video) or tambourine head. You'll just need to cut it down to the proper size. Good luck!

so how much space did you end up having from the counterhoop to the edge of the calf head? You said X 5 so you ended up somewhere 1.25' to 1.5' inches of the head before tucking?

Hey Brian, that's right. It's always best to err on the side of cutting the head too large, so I always try to be a little generous with my measurements. You can always take off more skin but you can't put any back on!
