Just jumping in to write your memoir can feel good and sometimes it works, but more frequently, jumping in leads to a lot of useless and even bad writing, to unexploited themes and much meandering that confuses the reader. In this video, I make a case for three important decisions you must take on. Leave a comment if you have more to add to what I share.
I have been mulling over writing a memoir for years and always used the excuse of "writer's block". Now that I've come to terms that it was never that, but rather fear that was holding me back, I'm ready to take the plunge. I love the bite size bits you've developed. I no longer feel paralyzed by, what could be, an overwhelming task. Thanks so much for your guidance.
Your're so welcome. At the early stage of writing it is sometimes helpful to give yourself permission to write only for yourself. This "audience of one" can free you from "what will other people think of my writing?" and "is this good enough?" Later, in the rewriting, you can decide to make your audience larger-or not. Many writers grow comfortable with sharing after they have written a while. Good luck with your memoir. Remember: '"Inch by inch, it's a cinch; yard by yard, it's hard."
