The Ramones were just a few regular guys with average ability and superhero enthusiasm who were tired of arena rock, and they wanted to re-create old-style rock'n'roll. Joey can't really sing, but he does his best Elvis impression. The songs are simple and meant to be call-backs to the fifties. It's their subject matter and their attitude that basically crystallized what would be called "punk rock."

Ramones went through MANY transformations throughout their career. Many different styles both in their music and vocal delivery. This is definitely a deep cut to an era that hardly no one other than a Ramones completionist listens to and as one of those people, I appreciate you guys giving this a shot. Not many people really know this era of their career and the fact that you found it is pretty cool.

Punk is really a cousin to rap. But it's that weird cousin nobody knows about and shows up randomly every other family reunion.
The Ramones in reference to all of punk is that yes, they were forefsthers but are the equivilant to a club song. If Blitzkrieg or Pet Cemetary comes on in the car and I'm in a whatever mood, I'll blast it and sing it. The next tier would be The Clash or Sex Pistols. But it depends. The Clash show the lyrical side to punk. It would be like me listening to rap and not understanding all of his references. But they are wide ranging and have radio songs but also pure punk songs. The Sex Pistols they show the wild side of punk, not very technical or great lyrically..but it's edgy. The Damned would also be on their level and are the forefathers of goth (they are my personal favorite) they aren't lyrically heavy, but melodic with some talented musicians, some songs are super punk and fast and others are pure Melody and emotion. All of those bands started around the same time and even toured together. Then punk started to split off into other directions. That led to new wave, hardcore and a million other genres.
Then there is prepunk or protopunk. The music that led to punk. They would be The New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, garage bands from the 60s. Some of my favorite music.
And FYI Beastie Boys started as a punk band. Love your channel!

Hi guys! This Ramones song sounds familiar because it reminds you another Ramones song called Pet Semetary which is a very well known hit, written for the '80s movie Pet Semetary,an adaption of Stephen King's book called...you guessed it, Pet Semetary! Anyway, this song comes from a more commercial era of Ramones. Their punk-rock songs were older and they were amazing!
Also, please react to Deep Purple-Child In Time. It is a milestone in music. Greeting from Greece!

You can always see from the comments that metal heads know way more about the history of their music and respect it more than any one genre u cover. Keep it metal guys. We have love and respect for our music and we don't follow trends. There are so many sub genres within the community that it may sound like it's not even the same type of music but for the most part we all give respect where it is do.

Ramones were very important in England in the '70s. Also, they were HUGE in South America in the '90s (solding out Stadium gigs). Today there is a lot of fashion around the Ramones, but at that time you had to be a hopeless working class teenager to really understand and like the Ramones. It's not just the sound. It is the freedom it brings along. I remember seeing Joey Ramone live back in the nineties and his was a kind of "liberator" to teenagers like myself at that time. The main message was: if we are doing it, you can also do it you own way. So The Ramones helped us understand during our teenager years that we should not let the world bend us. That we could think for ourselves and shape our lives according to it. That was hope when there were none.

I find it interesting that for a first foray into Punk Rock, and an Iconic band like The Ramones, that you picked such a late career deep cut. Punk Rock was a reaction to a number of factors.
    1) A lot of Punk Rock bands grew up with the three cord simplicity of early Rock and Roll. Meaning, 1950s Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, etc. Then, in the mid-1960s, you had the British Invasion of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, etc. The Ramones also loved the Motown R&Band the female Pop groups harmonies (Particularly Joey-the lead singer) By the late 1960's with the protests against the Vietnam War, the Counter Culture,Civil Rights Marches, and essentially the Hippies Peace and Love, real change seemed to be in the air. But by the early 1970s, a lot of their so-called heroes where rich, bloated, and beyond approach. Rock & Roll used to be and feel inclusive. The music of the early and mid 1970s also got over-produced, clean, and slick. One could also add that Punk in the early 1970s was a reaction to Disco as well. Dressing up, the uber-cool of celebrity, not being able to get into a Disco due to the velvet rope gatekeepers. You had to be either; famous, rich, or pretty to get into the exclusive Discos of NYC.
    2) NYC in the early 1970s was going bankrupt. Drugs and crime were rampant, and the dream of idyllic 50s & 60s essentially were dead. Hilly Kristal opened CBGB's and had a rule that performers could only perform "original music". (So as not to pay the ASCAP & BMI performance royalty fees) When The Ramones started their band, they couldn't play their instruments--->At All! Hence the simple three cords and down strumming style of guitarist Johnny. Early Punk started in NYC--->NOT England!!! I repeat--->Early Punk started in NYC--->NOT England!!! CBGB's was in The Bowery, a dirty, economically depressed, dangerous, crime ridden, junkie laden part of NYC area. If you came their, you took your life into your own hands. BUT if you made it and came there--->You were welcomed and accepted.
    3) I could go on & on & on but remember these are some of the seminal early groups that created/influenced Punk Rock; Blondie, The Ramones, Television, The Talking Heads, Patti Smith, The Dead Boys, Suicide, Wayne County, The Fast,The Heartbreakers, and of course *The Godfather of Punk* Iggy Pop (Someone you *MUST* do a reaction on his music!).
I could write more but man...most of your videos are great. But since you keep it 100 percent real I will too. You swung and missed on this one. But I still love the videos!
