  • This is a long video - sorry! I’ve listed what time I talk about each question so you can skip directly to those that interest you. Thank you to everyone that submitted questions!
    1) Alys Nicole @Alleyniks on Twitter asks: “What’s your favorite genre to write about?” (00:21)
    2) Hagen Clevenger @blackgrrr on Twitter asks: “What kind of computer do you use?” (00:31)
    3) Megan Sheckells on FaceBook asks: “Also for your Q&A video I would love to hear more about your editing process! How do you decide when you've went too far in depth on something too soon? (00:54)
    4) Shanice Littlejohn on FaceBook asks: “My question is, when you are writing, do you do world building, sub plotting, character building as you write or before you start your first draft?” (03:32)
    5) Dean Sherman @dasherman87 on Twitter asks: “How much detail should you plan out for a novel?” (04:17)
    6) Phillip Simpson on TH-cam asks: “How do you deal with difficult scenes?” (05:21)
    7) WordsFall on TH-cam asks: “What do you do if you have too many ideas?” (06:31)
    8) BookLoverKerrie on TH-cam asks: “How do you plan your stories, for example, do you have a notebook for each story and what do you write about in each notebook?” (08:21)
    9) Vixen Black on TH-cam asks: “How do you do brainstorming for a new writing project?” (11:00)
    10) Jovana Fung on TH-cam asks: “If you had to write in only one hour of the day every day, which hour would you choose? What is the hardest thing for you to write, and how do you overcome it? What do you find the easiest to write? If you weren’t interested in writing, what would be your biggest life goal?” (12:41)
    11) Black Star Symphony from TH-cam asks: “I see many author-tubers talking about how they wanted to be an author all their life and how they have always written. I am not like that, I have only gotten into writing when I was 19 and decided I wanted to be an author when I was 22. Does this matter if you want to become an author? Also, is it necessary to do a creative writing course?” (15:34)
    12) JustAWriter333 on TH-cam asks: “What are your thoughts on fantasy worlds with no magic? Is magic required to classify a novel as fantasy?” (18:27)
    13) Jess on TH-cam asks: “I’d like to know how you came to your decision to self-publish and if you would prefer that over traditional publishing.” (19:12)
    14) Trynda E. Adair on TH-cam asks: “How do you feel about named chapters? Do you think they add to the story or serve as a distraction that takes readers out of that "One more page" mindset?” (22:45)

    Thanks for answering my questions! Funny enough, dialogue is the part of writing I gravitate to. It's kinda the reason I write. (I daydream about conversations between my characters all the time, lol.)
    Also your earth ship thing sounds really cool.

      It's interesting how we all have different strengths and weaknesses as writers. Thank you for those great questions, especially the last one! Loved getting to talk about my earthship :)

    Shanice here, Thank you for answering my question. I am hitting a wall with my novel and aren't sure if I should stop and get more into world-building or not. I worried that I started drafting way too soon, but your answer helps.
    Thanks!

      Hi Shanice, thanks for the great question! By stop, do you mean abandon your novel, or just go back to the planning stages before you move forward?

    I went into self publishing for basically the same reasons. I wanted to have total control over my book(s) and their "fates".
    Also. I want to rescue ALL THE ANIMALS too! And to live outside of the city and without a lot of bills. Simplicity for me please!

    Great video. Lots of great questions and answers. I have to agree about the creative writing courses. I majored in creative writing in college as well and realized about midway through that it wasn't really all that helpful and was in fact hindering my creative writing efforts. Ended up switching to Literary Studies/English. I love the idea of rescuing a bunch of animals and living in the country. P.S. Your kitty is gorgeous. :)

      Hi Persephone! Yeah, I was so excited about my creative writing courses, but they didn't live up to my expectations. How did you enjoy Literary Studies? (And thank you! Mew is definitely a pretty girl.)

    • @PersephoneJones
      @PersephoneJones 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I enjoyed it for the most part. My creative writing college courses didn't live up to expectation either. When I was a creative writing major, there were maybe 2-3 courses that were solely for creative writing majors. Seriously, that was it. All my other courses were the standard Chaucer, Shakespeare, American Lit courses. So Literary Studies (just a fancy way of saying English, really) ended up not being that much different. Same basic core curriculum with the same books, papers to write, etc. That negligible difference between the two degree plans decided it for me. Hopefully the writing program is better now and more varied from the English degree. At the time I was in college, it wasn't writing intensive enough to really keep my interest. :)

    Thanks for answering my question! I feel the same way as you do when it comes to publishing and I'm thinking I will be self publishing when I finish my mermaid novel. Also, I just finished reading High Born and let me just say my heart was broken at one part, and I NEED MORE! Are you still planning on writing the trilogy? I need to know what happens! I literally devoured the book in one sitting.

    Hi Natalia, I just watched this video. Almost a month later! I would like to ask what kind of software do you use to write your books? You know by just looking at your laptop. Thanx, Sharon Bennett

    • @NataliaLeigh
      @NataliaLeigh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      busesrkool Hi Sharon! If I'm drafting for Nanowrimo then I use Microsoft Word. Otherwise I use Scrivener since it allows for so much organization.

    I just about lost it when you said you wanted to build an Earthship. My boyfriend and I have been dreaming of building our own for years.
    Thank you for the awesome Q&A :D

      That's awesome! Do you think you'll move forward with it? Getting land is what I'm doing a lot of research on now. I want to make sure I get a piece where zoning laws will allow for an earthship. Colorado and New Mexico are looking like my best options.

    Are you planning on self publishing the fairy novel or are you going to try to traditionally publish?

    • @NataliaLeigh
      @NataliaLeigh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've really been going back and forth. Originally I planned to self-publish, and I'm still leaning in this direction. However, I would certainly like to learn more about querying agents. I feel secure enough in myself that getting rejections from agents wouldn't set me too far back. I can't lie though, seeing my book in Barnes and Noble would be pretty sweet :)

      Well either way I'm gonna read it! But trying something new would never hurt you if you feel like you'd like to try. If you try traditional and decide that it's not for you after going through a couple of agents self publishing is always there.
