I loved running draglines I ran electromagnetic draglines in a scrap yard 12 years eye hand coordination right hand right foot work together as you pull on the lever with your right hand you have to release the break with your right foot witch pull the cable up your left hand pulls the drag cable an your left foot holds the break then there's one more lever that swings push to make a right pull to go left the machines I ran were frum the fifty's American, link belt, an bucyrus Erie try it sometime it's fun 👍

The close-up detail of the bucket and rigging was fascinating. Thanks for posting it. Very arty.

My Dad used to run a dragline for Alcoa, used to take me on it from time to time and I used to watch him run it. Man those were good times. I wish I could have taken my kids on one, but Alcoa shut down the mines before my kids were born. So sad. Good memories though.

Everyones bashing the guy, but did anyone notice that it looks like he was at the end of the pit, digging out the far side and dumping past his escape? He was not just digging back the cut. Very limited digging area at that moment. Very limited dump zone too. Ease up! Stop bashing just cause you don't understand.

While the operator may not be the best, the bucket and machine is doing exactly what it is designed to do, keep in mind this thing is also capable of moving it's load many time further than your typical Arm based machine. Drag lines can move more material faster and further than any other machine conveyer belted machines notwithstanding.

    To those saying it's inefficient...
You do realise it runs on electricity?
These were made because they are more efficient than a face shovel dumping into trucks. Far more efficient.
As said, they work better when pulling the bucket up a hill towards them, but even as is, this still walks all over filling 797's with a shovel or excavator.

Anyone know who invented the bucket shape and rope attachment points to give such precise control? I see real magic in carrying the bucket without dumping until you want to. Dragging in toward the machine using the weight of the bucket and teeth for down pressure is not as magical. Try to remember the amount of weight during a fast cycle time with a fully loaded bucket. All in a time when computers were not as common.

Unfortunately there is no translation button for this. Yes it is a comedy. Making fun of how upper class people in Britain used to make silly societies about pointless issues.
Back in the day before the internet "societies" and "clubs" would and could spring up around just about any little thing or for just about any reason, kind of like how we have so many subreddits.
Monty Python always took things to the extreme for their satire, so to poke fun at them they made up one that quite obviously didn't make any real sense to have. Much of the joke lead in was how serious they were about this completely pointless "task" of theirs, and completed by someone pointing out how silly it really was.
      Hope this helps. Cheers
