I am 52 seconds into you vid--the cinematography and the variety of shots is on a 'Super' Level. Amazing work!
Wow, thank you!
Should have pulled it down with the winch. LoL 😝
Love those trails!
For some reason I didn't think of that until later and was like... DUH!!! LOL
You can always let the air out of the rear tires too in a pinch and gain a few inches 😁
1 min in and its already one of your best "shot" videos so far that i've seen! Amazing job. This is what we will be doing soon! starting from nothing.
Thanks!!!
All the downed trees are from a windstorm a couple of years ago in December. Red River registered a wind gust of 102 mph, so higher at altitude. Estimates were 300,000 trees downed. We arrived about a week after. It was major devastation. Questa is pronounced Kwesta.
Oh dang!!!
Just got back from this area, stunning
I have never thought of carrying saw . Thanks
Dude, that transition from night to day in the tent in the beginning was awesome. You must teach me your ways oh Sensei.
Thanks for sharing and the advice. Looks like a fantastic adventure.
Hi Matt, thank for a wonderful video and the info on Bolton. Have a great weekend!
This looks cool. Bless up Matt
Man! You nailed it! What a fantastic images. Stunning!!!!
1:21, caught the song being played on the phone. LOL, love it, and love your videos.
Enjoyed a lot.
Thanks for another great post Matt, Saturday morning watch with coffee here in New Zealand
That roundabout shot in the intro, was pretty cool!
I am loving this watching you on trails that I have done before but been quite a while
I love rollin’ solo for a few days every now and again. Have fun.
Took me a second to figure out which round-a-bout that was! Travel that one often. As always, great job on the video!!
Great intro Matt... Loved the traffic circle footage...from the guy who saw your hair at a distance and yelled "Ozark" from across the field at overland expo east last year...love you guys!
THANKS!!!
Well done video sir ! Great drone shots 👏
Thank you!
Sometimes it takes nature awhile to return to their baseline after you go through their turf. Thanks as always for your tidbits of overlanding wisdom.
The intro really makes this feel like real television 😂 along with the video quality of course
Great video! I have been using J.T. Brooks for my Gladiator for a few years now. Absolutely love them. They work flawlessly every time!
Awesome adventure! Yes if you go to the popular places they will be crowded or you can go to beautiful places that are less crowded and have a good time too! We were in San Rafael Swell at the end of June and hardly anyone was there. It was beautiful!
the music in the beginning reminded me of walking into a Holister store back in the day lol! loved the shots you got though!
The Rio Grande del Norte/Gorge area is fantastic as well for camping during cooler times of the year. The 360 views are jaw dropping as well!
You always seem to pick the right music, love your videos
Thank you!
This is your best video yet! The opening scene at camp with the ambient audio set the tone for the episode.
Thanks so much!!
Good morning. For some reason when I woke up and saw TH-cam the first thing that came out was this video!!! I love your videos and the views. I think the outdoors are calling me. fascinating work❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Love the build. Always wanted a square body s10 4.3 with a short bed
I have been using JT Brooks deflaters for a year and a half and love them no more Knee Pain LOL
I do like the way that your JT is outfitted
I would like to do the same thing, but with a different vehicle
Great camera work Matt. Felt like we were there with ya. Now my wife wants to go there.
Thx
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the intro
Thanks!!
I must say you are a committed man to your craft. You really use your rig!
Thanks. That what I got it for.
Thank for the awesome video. Noticed the issue with the down trees. I always have my Silky Katanaboy saw 500mm. Does not take up any room in my rig and Will easy go through the trees you encountered in less than a minute.
Thanks for this video, I've been wanting to explore that area of New Mexico since the first time I saw it on my way to Silverton way back in 2016. Now I really need to go there!
Another epic trip. Love what you do Matt.
Can't wait for my trip to Carolina Outer Banks beach camping trip......
Sounds awesome!
Cape Lookout! ❤️ Did that last year. Incredibly peaceful at nights. Suggest you camp south of the lighthouse.
@@onasledoverland South of lighthouse, okay, I'll check it out for sure
Hey Matt, you commented on how few people you saw on this trip, and if you were in Ouray it would be crazy, well I just spent the week up there doing just about every trail, and we saw very few people, only passed maybe one rig each day going the opposite direction, it was great and the trails were amazing. Looks like you had a great trip also. 😊
Your drone b roll is the best. Love to see a session on tips using a drone. Friend gave me an old dji and I am slowly figuring it out.
Thanks. Check out Jevin Dovey. He has great drone tutorials.
Even with a destination in mind and enroute you can appreciate the moment of every view and a new turn in the road.
I like how you show the good and bad of the trip like roads closed and have to go around. Brad from Trailrecon showed a trip where they came to closed road and locked gates. That is what happens. You guys keep it real.
Thanks!!!
All I can say is AWESOME video!! You have captured some of the natural beauty of that area. As for the butane not working, there is a blend you can get that is formulated for high altitude. (isobutane in the mix helps with this). We used it a few years back when we were in that area. Well just west of where you were at. We were in Silverton last week and there was a good crowd... safe travels.
Thanks so much!!
Enjoyed the video! Going to Red River next week. Last time there was 31 years ago. Camped near the Midnight Mine in a small ground tent. Great experience!! Base camp was at Columbine Campground west of Red River. Ran most every trail there. We camp in a small RV now. Went to the confluence of the Red River and the Rio Grande. Good hike!! Safe travels!!
Columbine is by far the best of the developed National Forest campgrounds in the area. If your not looking for the solitude Greenie Peak or the top of the old pass road, then Columbine is a gorgeous spot with a roaring creek and a wonderful trail for some serious hiking.
@@ertatta . We sure thought of Columbine for sure!! I agree, it is pretty cool!! Decided on a developed campground this time! Gonna go to Greenie Peak and Midnight Mine and Meadow in the morning. Goose Lack trail Thursday. Friday. attending the 8750’ Festival. Then off to Durango and Silverton.
My back yard, Cedar Hill, NM we do have some awesome back country. Maybe see you on the trail some day.
12:59 It helps with ifs as well. It may not be a drastic change as solid front but still helps considerably.
Excellent video Matt. They keep on getting better and better. You may want to look into getting a Gazelle Gazebo. Supper easy to put up and down.
Thank you!! Those are very nice but they are so big when folded down.
Memorial Day packs RED River. If you go north on Hwy 522 out of Questa north 9 miles and turn Left (west) on Sunshine Valley Rd. you get a much better view of the Gorge.
Awesome
I’m glad you enjoy the Rio Grande National Forest. Your spot above the Rio de los pinos is a fav of mine. And yes, we got bears and mountain lions all over there. The last grizzly in CO was in that exact area.
Archuleta campground in the Rio Grande National Forest accessible via NM north of Chama.
It’s not going to be a fav very long if your publicly on here telling the world where it is…
Great video - laughed out loud several times. Thanks for keeping it real! Unless I missed it, you may have forgotten to post the link to the deflators. Those are cool
Thanks!! You are correct. Link has been added.
Matt, you really got good with that drone ma'dude
thanks!!
Been looking forward to this one we spend a week every summer in red river got engaged on greenie peak this year on June 21st
That's awesome!!
Bro you gotta buy a silky saw for those tree situations. Best saw ever and makes slight work
If it hasn’t been said, the Red River area is also part of the Carson National Forest. The Carson has several districts separated and spread throughout northern NM.
Yeah I noticed that comment as well.
so on my way from Louisiana to Colorado i was driving hwy 40 through new Mexico from Amarillo tx and seen a trail off the hwy with a sign that said good night loving trail, i looked it up and showed it was an old cattle trail that went to Colorado and to Utah areas. was wondering if you know anything about it. i been looking to see if its open for overland rides. think it be a good time to overland it . but below is the information i found on the web.
The Goodnight-Loving Trail began at Fort Belknap (Texas), along part of the former route of the Butterfield Overland Mail, traveling through Central Texas across the Llano Estacado (Staked Plains) to Horsehead Crossing, north along the Pecos River and across Pope's Crossing, into New Mexico to Fort Sumner. The trail then continued north into Colorado to Denver, and was extended on into Wyoming.[1]
Another amazing video. You guys are living a dream for sure and doing it right. Ever need a place to hang in Fort Collins, you just let me know. Can show you the sites in NOCO.
THANK YOU!!
Hahaha that's exactly how you're suppose to use a roundabout.
Next time you are up near questa,NM, you should visit cabresto lake. We always use it for an overnight spot to camp when Overlanding.
I did visit it. The footage didn't make the video. I was disappointed in it. Very few places to camp and nothing on the lake,
38:02 "Hmm... it's getting to people-y out here.... I'm gone!"
Nice episode man! One of my favorites so far...but I'm bias since I live here in NM. Except I live in the sw in the Gila where there's way less people than up north, lol. So if you ever want to come check out Silver City and Gila area, hmu and I'll show you some cool spots.
I want to get to the Gila area so bad!!
Bingo on the thermoelectric, although V2 seems to work over 10,000 feet🤷♂️
At 33:33 you should have headed towards Espanola there a paved road that heads up the east side of the river and crosses over to the other side chances of seeing bighorn sheep.
Noti gang on deck
no clue what that means
I always carry a hand saw just in case I'm without a chainsaw.
Fellow Okie here. The road construction on i40 is awful! I noticed you were stuck in it at the start of the video. Haha.
Love these videos Matt! I’m going to be super sad when this whole trip is over.
I’ve been home for 2 weeks from this trip and am super sad. 😂
How to use a winch if you got stuck by a tree in a hard spot. Sounds like a good video to do. Matt
I don’t know why I didn’t think to use my winch. 😂🤦🏼♂️
You should have that song as your intro song on every video.
What is that song? I cant find it anywhere!
Another great video. With your down tree do you carry a folding bow saw? I don't always carry a chain saw but I do always carry a 24" folding bow saw. It takes up virtually no room. Wood bigger than 8" can be harder to cut but you can make a few relief cuts and then break it with the winch.
I need to get one!
I didn't see a link for the tire deflation. Awesome video btw
You are correct. Fixed it. Thanks!!
The pronghorn's name is Matt.😊
I’m glad you mention the sway bar. I’ve been meaning to ask you since i recently got a new rubicon gladiator. Do you have a tazer z or do you just drive in 4 high on these mild trails to unlock the sway bar?
I just roll in 4hi to disconnect the sway bar.
@18:34 I definitely would love to know where this is so I can camp there. I’m hanging on every second of this video. I live in New Mexico and am trying to find new places to explore and camp.
Great video! Your camera work always gets better with each video. I have question about the bag on your tailgate. Where did you get it? I’m looking for something like that for my Gladiator.
Those bags are cool, but I got a $20 canvas duffel off of Amazon that works perfectly
Thanks so much? The bad is from here www.atelierxa.com/
Do you climb any summits? Lots of great video from that to
I climbing on this trip. But we did skydive again.
Hey long-time listener first time commenter. What recovery bag do you have mounted to your tailgate?
Awesome scenery Matt!!
Pro tip: ALWAYS take a chainsaw 😁
I've been following and watching all the time. I like the atmosphere that is different from Thailand.
Thanks so much!!!
So do you use some of the DJI follow me programs or are you just that good that you can fly the drone and get epic footage while driving?
Just curious from the angle of the tree. Could you have backed under the tree. Meaning the tent and awning on the other side. Just a thought. Also. Can you share some info on the jacket your wearing. Thank you.
Turning around there would have been very challenging. The Jacket is Cotipaxi. We love that brand!!
Man. I thought I saw your rig today at the Ok aquarium.
LOL. You did. We were there.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures yes sir, we were leaving the parking lot and pass your truck. I was like oh! That’s looks like matts rig let me take picture of my rig by his. My wife didn’t let me lol.
Hey bud, have a question... are 33" tires good enough to tackle some of the more technical trails that you run.? Looking at upgrading my tires, currently have 33" tires, but wondering if I ought to upgrade t0 35" or 37". Guess I'm asking your opinion on if 33" tires would work well enough on more technical trailes.... have a 3.½ in lift currently on my gladiator. Thank you sir. Hope to hear from you soon.
33s on a Gladiator aren't going to get you far on technical trails. You've really gotta go bigger to compensate for that long wheelbase. 35s are a good start. 37s are even better.
The BLM camp spot at the Rio Grande is above the switchbacks. You go across the gorge bridge enter from the west. Its very similar, if not better than the first spot you found. I camped there today
that's what I was trying to get to but after having to backtrack after the bridge I decided it was best to skip that area this time and press on to Colorado.
At that altitude you will need the rechargeable Thermacell's.
Keep doing what you are doing and don't worry about the "haters". Do you ever wish you would have gone with the Clayton 3.5" Overland+ kit for the JL with the trails you conquer? Trying to decide between the 2.5" or 3.5" kit for a 392. All the best to you!
The 2.5 is working great but had we known we would be running 38s on the JL we would have gone 3.5.
Where might I find a topo decal like you have on your rig... I know I know - I have a tacoma TRD Pro - so Im not as cool - but Id totally go full "Bro'verland" if I could find something similar for my Tacoma hood scoop. Killer video as always! Stay awesome!
Check out stickyvinylz.com
Man I’d love to know where you were the 2nd night. Did you cross into Colorado from the Valle Vidal/Rio Costilla near the Culebra range or further west in the Rio Grande National Forest near Alamosa or Antonito??
I crossed into Colorado in the Rio Grande NF southwest of Alamosa. The next day I had to make a run to Antonito for gas.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures gorgeous area & sorry I’m not part of your paid channel.
When you coming to California to explore the Rubicon Trail and surrounding area? 🙂
Not soon enough!!!
Matt could you have used a bottle jack near the bottom of the tree or pulled it out of the way with the winch? Only asking for learning purposes.
I feel like a dummy for not trying my winch. Lol
MATT PLEASE!!! I hope that got your attention. Love your videos! Can't seem to find the video where you introduced the garbage bag on your tailgate and the flat plate on your tailgate. Please let me know where you got them and if you have an affiliate link for them. I always try to use the links to help support the channels I like. Anyway, keep up the great work and let Kara know she's looking good. Love you guys. 🤙
Here is the trash bag - www.atelierxa.com/
The tailgate table is from All Pro Offroad. I don't have affiliate links for either of them. Thanks!!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thank you! 🤙
You need to pack a Silky Saw in your rig...
35:08 to 35:09 *Bird!* Did he end up going after your drone?
May I ask what program you are using on your ipad for your maps?
Gaia GPS. I’ve got several videos on it
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thanks
Matt what’s your take or recommendation on going off-road alone? I just bought a gladiator and that’s what I love, the peacefulness of being alone, doing what I want and when I want to do it, but the #1 most common recommendation from online forums and such say make sure to go with others! I don’t want to go with others haha, what’s your take, particularly for someone starting out?
I go solo a lot and love it. #1 rule of going solo is don’t be dumb. Play it safe and don’t take unnecessary chances. Make sure you have a Garmin InReach or ZOLEO for offline communications.
Awesome, thank you!
Just starting out with overlanding and was wondering if you will be at Overland Expo Mtn West in a couple weeks? Would love to meet you and ask a few questions if that would be ok with you?
We will be there. My Gladiator will be in the Xtrusion Overland booth and I'm teaching a Gaia class on Saturday. Please come say hi and ask all you want.
❤
I’m sure it’s been asked and answered before, but what’s all that squeaking from your suspension? Currently looking at a lift for my JT, and this would drive me absolutely up the wall!
Time to grease my control arm joints.
Are you guys planning on coming to the overland expo in Colorado?
We will be there. The Gladiator will be in the XTrusion Overland booth and I’m teaching a Gaia class on Saturday.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures freaken awesome!!! I really don't feel like asking everyone. Lol do you know who else will be there
Great video. Still have the trailer?
Oh yeah! Still love it.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures niiice. Love it!!!
Electric Thermacell ftw!
Cara had it with her. Lol
A proper gentleman! Natalia would beat me if I gave her the one that didn't always work😂 @@OzarkOverlandAdventures
Did you try to winch the tree off the trail ? I have had to winch the obstacles off the trail. ☆ State
I feel like a doofus for not trying my winch. 🤦🏼♂️
