I have wasted time watching probably four or five videos on disassembly/reassembly of this weapon. You sir have made the perfect video. I just bought a Broomhandle mauser today. Someone had put the follower in without inserting the tab of the spring. So it was locked up tight. After I removed it the work that the previous handler did reached fruition in that it was mostly field stripped. It has been almost 40 years since I've messed with one. Needless to say, your video really helped. Thank you so much for doing it. Blessings.
If you reblued and restored this gun I have to say you have done an absolutely amazing job. If it is all original and matching then you have quite the museum quality piece. Either way you can take a lot of pride on that gun. Just beautiful.
I was doing some research before buying one of these, as I've found one I rather like. I was concerned that it would be a nightmare in stripping and assembling. You showed just how straightforward it actually is. Other vids were not nearly so clear and concise. Thank you kindly for posting this. You've helped me make my decision and I will be an owner in about three days.
One of my favorite guns of all times... then again I guess I have a bias towards guns from the era. Late 1800's early 1900's is the best period of gun making in my opinion. They still had that flashy and innovative/strange appearance you would find in the early experimental versions of popular designs and they have that intimidating/cool appearance of modern guns. I personally own a Browning 1900 and I love the thing. The way the markings are stamped onto the gun-metal is truly a work of art. I'm looking for an artillery Luger from WWI with wooden grips and a Mauser C96 with Ottoman Stamps. Maybe one day I will save up and buy a Vickers Machine gun, that would be my holy grail. If not, there is a pretty nice reproduction on the market for $7,000. I'm unsure about reproductions and replica's but I guess I wouldn't mind having a high end Vickers machine gun prop standing in my living room. :)
Nice video, I know how to take mine apart, but this is a good refresher. Your piece is in excellent shape. I have a Bolo with two barrels, one in 9mm and one in 7.63. I just got them refinished.
Select fire versions are seen w/detachable magazines.Spanish Astras and indigenous Chinese copies also are often seen w/ detachable mags.Astra actually a better designed pistol, likely their techs in the 1920's saw some inherent problems w/the 1896 and addressed them.Once you get hang of atypical gun style it's actually quite pleasant to shoot. BEWARE: Never shoot Czech CZ52 ammo in C96 it is at least 30% hotter than the 7.63 load.Carefully check C96 before buying to see if damaged by hot ammo
thanks for this video. i am in the process of getting a curios and relics permit just so that i can buy a 9mm version with the shoulder stock on gun broker sometime in the future as soon as i get more money but plan to use this video so i can take proper care of it when i do get one
Well, the C96 is a very good pistol. It's an all around historical, collectable, and accurate firearm with a great reputation. I personally don't compare the C96 and more current pistols. They are two very different pistols with over 100 years of development between them. The Glock 17 is a modern pistol designed for the current battlefield, but the C96 is a pistol that was designed at a time when men were real men. The C96 is outdated by today's standards, but I like them both.
bad ass hand gun i wish they would make it again but i hear people say its a pain to take apart but if you know what your doing it looks about as hard as taking apart a 1911
A great "how to" vid. The pistol is in remarkable condition. I hope to find a shooters grade Red-9 (9mm) version someday. Funny how some people actually was more concerned about the persons hands. It takes all kinds I guess.
As for re-assembly, I got as far as the bolt tang in the reciever, but I cannot get the bolt assembly to snap in. Any help would be appreciated. Gerald F. San Ramon, Ca.
Got my C96 recoil spring in the mail today, thank you! Question: Are all the parts that are blued on the Mauser in this video just cold blued or do they all have a Durablue finish? Exactly what process did you use to blue the Mauser in this video? Thanks again!!
WW2 does not only mean Germany. Austria, France, Russia, and Poland all used the C96 during the war. By the way, the SS were tiny compared to the Werhmacht. The SS used the P38 more than the Luger, the Luger was mostly used amongst officers during WW2. The subject you tried to correct me on didn't even relate to the previous comment I made. You seem to be the one who needs to learn their facts, Germany in fact did use the C96 all the way to 1945.
Yes, sir, it depends upon the condition. Anywhere from $400 to $4000!
Anybody know the correct procedure for inserting and snapping in the bolt assembly after the bolt lock is in place? I try and try and it won't lock in. Gerald
Real Mauser's are not magazine fed. They use stripper clips that you put in from the top. You then push the bullets in. The box clip doesn't come off. If that is what you meant.
That's what I thought when I saw Return of the Jedi yesterday. Why was a gun which apparently fires a "bolt of light" at something like 40 feet per second (actually it seems it crosses the screen in a quarter of a second regardless of how far away the camera is) doing with the sights of a 19th century German semi-automatic pistol that fires chunks of lead? It's just lazy imagining. It makes less sense than the taxis from Back to the Future II (set in 2015) being a flying 1955 Citroën DS,
No one is making replicas. His looks brand new most likely because it was a military surplus. When they first came into the US, they were around $75, never used milsurp. Keep it in good condition, and it will live forever.
Many poor, 3rd world armies. Many countries in Africa still use them, including Somalia, they still see action in the middle east, Chechnya, that area. The C96 still sees combat in South East Asia currently, not to mention the Philippines.
No real Mauser's are detachable magazine fed. The russians used an exact clone stripper clip version only, however the versions that the germans used in WWII the North Koreans used in the Korean war and the Viet Cong used in the Viet Nam War were all detachable magazine versions and could fire in fully auto.
I really wanted to buy this... But any decent ones cost over 1500 bucks.. And the 7.63 Mauser ammo is so expensive.. I can shoot .308 cheaper.. Next step, find a cheap red 9 and buy it. Probably gonna do a refinish too
Technically I wasn't wrong when I said that Mauser manufactured that same kind of pistol with a detachable box mag. I also wasn't wrong when about the Russians using stripper clip only clones. I was unawear at the time of the existance of the strippercliped red 9s that used the " New 9mm" cartige back in WWI. Finnally correcting me on Vietnam is kind of a low blow. That was an accident that came from being awake too late.
Why is it that everybody that has any kind of gun tutorial on youtube, never cuts their nails? other than that, very pristine looking gun. Looks like it was made yesterday.
I think this is the most beautifull pistol ever made I am totally going to make this. also if you want to download that ebook HLebooks was talking about just send me a pm and I will send you the link where you can download it for free.
you have very girls hands, if your a girl you have normal hands lol on another note thats a beautiful gun, hard to find ammo for it though but its in amazing shape !!

It's such a complicated piece on machinery to design and manufacture in the 1900's, hats off to the makers.
this is my favorite antique pistol, its such a beautiful gun
Perfect. One caveat, a few loose pieces may come apart from the lock frame, so disassemble with care.
Super high quality video and such a beautiful Mauser!
Really well done video. Very helpful for a new owner of a 1914ish C96. Thank you!
Beautifully refinished!! The Nitre blue is perfection!!
Nice video, I know how to take mine apart, but this is a good refresher. Your piece is in excellent shape. I have a Bolo with two barrels, one in 9mm and one in 7.63. I just got them refinished.
Beautiful machine work, its like a perfection in tolerances!
Love this desing!!
Thanks for making this video! I am in the process of restoring a c96 1930 so this will come in handy when the restoration parts arrive.
thanks, that was helpful. just took my flatside (made in '99) apart for the first time, & reassembled. well done video.
Have almost all their models, from conehummer till bolo! And I love it! :-P
awesome video, man that gun is gorgeous!

Wow what a beauty, wished mine was that nice. good video also, thanks
What a beautiful handgun!
the m1712 shnell fiere was full auto and box mag fed. The red 9 and c96 are strip clip fed and semi auto. also Veitnam is one word.

i have one in a bow but its not in such a good shape as yours you should be proud of it :D

WHEW this gun is beautiful!
Beautiful pistol man
Sweet concealed carry
Excuse me, your weapon is a beautiful piece of art. What kind of paint, or what do you apply for getting the color? Please. Thank you.
your c96 is in beautiful condition :D
Where did u get It its quite cool
It is real gun or bb pistol
Would love to know if this was reblued
As for re-assembly, I got as far as the bolt tang in the reciever, but I cannot get the bolt assembly to snap in. Any help would be appreciated.

Where did you get this gun? Because it looks like a replica and I would like to get one.
so did they stopped making mauser c96's and are they still using it in war?

thanks but, i think the c96 is better then the glock 17 do you agree?
holy shit that looks brand new! Can't be..
Yes, sir, it depends upon the condition. Anywhere from $400 to $4000!
about 800 up to 15000 if it is the Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer which is magizine fed through the bottom instead of the top
Wait, is this a real gun or just a replica model?!?
Anybody know the correct procedure for inserting and snapping in the bolt assembly after the bolt lock is in place? I try and try and it won't lock in.
Gerald
Very nice
It's... so beautiful.
Good video! Thank you !
its funny that this dinosaur has less parts then some modern pistols...
It is funny that it has less parts than some modern pistols and the less you have means you don't have many ways for something to go wrong
That's German efficiency
it looks like factory new. where did you buy it?

Where can I get one of these?

Thanks, KB66888!
The final part push until click is the one I miss...
this gun reminds me of star wars and Winston Churchill

That's a Russian production Mauser right? It's not magazine fed so I'm only assumeing.
Amazing.

But what if I don't have a pen?
Any suggestions for my floor plate and spring being stuck?
I'm able to get the floor plate itself off but i cant pull the rest out
This feels more like getting meat out of a lobster, than disassembling a gun.
Then again I'm probably just spoiled by using neat 21st century guns
anyone know where i can find a really cheap replica
I had one for £30, But that was at a bootsale... Best guess.... Amazon
wish these were reproduce. sorta like how some companies reproduce cowboy action guns.

Mai purchase karna chatahu
han solos gun was a modded c96.
Later versions of this guns had magazine-clips. You STILL had to push every single bullet per finger in it. Just the ammo got more.
'99 as in 1899, I take it!
Price kay hi
It Appears in Resident evil 4 :DD
p.s. the germans never really used the c96 most of the SS used lugers "You learn your facts before you go out and start correcting others"
I think this is the most beautifull pistol ever made I am totally going to make this.
also if you want to download that ebook HLebooks was talking about just send me a pm and I will send you the link where you can download it for free.
