    "If you poppin in Southa you poppin" -AKA
    This statement was a re-inforcement to say South African artist should not depend on breaking the US market to feel like they have archieved the ultimate price. Let's make the South African market so valuable that artists from other countries would want to break the South African Market. The way to do that is by not taking South African fans for granted.

    T.I. or Davido can have a banger of an amapiano track but you won't compare it with any local tracks because local is always lekker especially if the genre is also local. Same goes for hip hop in the U.S, I feel this is something South African's have no control over. Imagine a South African doing Nigerian music using a Nigerian accent.

    Most American fans are extremely territorial when it comes to supporting rappers. You have Atlanta (Gunna, Future, Thug, 21 etc), New York (50 Cent Jay Z, Fivio Foreign), Chicago (Kanye West, Lil Durk, Chief Keef ), LA (Kendrick, Game, Snoop, YG), Philly (Meek Mill, Lil Uzi). Majority of these rappers got fame first through their cities and fans are most likely to support a homegrown rapper than a rapper from another city. That makes it difficult for SA rappers to break in the market, the first question the fans will ask is where is "so and so rapper" from, if you ain't from their city they'll pass on you. This from a marketing perspective means that labels have to invest more to push foreign artists into the American market which more often than not will fail because of the above. Amapiano is breaking out easily because it is something they have not heard before, whereas with rappers like Nasty C and A-reece, they sound exactly like American rappers but they don't have the backing of fans to actually make it in the market.

    I don't think Americans are weird or wrong for wanting a very organic sound that would be refreshing to their ears; a sound that they haven't really heard anywhere else before and instead reject a repetition of the exact sound that they crafted themselves being mimicked to the tee by foreign artists. Nasty C is mimicking what they're already doing; being the most inauthentic black American African rapper in the whole African continent that he is, even in his black American-influenced accent. Nothing is organically African or South African or Zulu or 'I'm proud to be from KZN' about him at all and that's why they will never receive him over there like he hopefully desires. Sjava and Zakwe are one of the only South African artists that would've made it there with their African-trap (whatever it's called) sound. They use a lot of Zulu in their lyrics and their sound is very African-like which is something Americans may find intriguingly 'exotic' and very new to them.

    Well, South Africans don't want to listen to South African rappers trying to sound like American rappers...
    Americans are definitely tired of their own generic sounding rappers.
    The best thing is to wonder why Specs, Morafe, HHP, Molemi, Skwatta Kamp Amo and the rest had us buying Hype Magazine, buying their music and later downloading.

    again what mansa was explaining is the way how we feel when we hear other countries making amapiano songs we get happy that it's getting recognition however we don't fully embrace until they put something different on the beat then that's when we say "yea" that's nice & if you can look at these rappers that blow up at united states they know to catch the attention of the media they do publicity stunts to cement their space while our artist move as if they all ready made it take a look at lil mabu white boy making drill sounding hard but not so quite that's why he his able to get his numbers up even lil nas does this with the gay stunts then our artists want to go there neutral ? on a battlefield like that

    I feel like you can break through the American market without having to have a South African sound to ur music, y’all need to remember that if you have the youth you get the streams nonstop, y’all really think young Americans care that you don’t rep ur home countries sound, no, I think wat nasty c or any other artists in SA have to do is just do new generation music/hiphop like wat Blxckie is doing, if they want a more grown audience then it’s on them, but I think u need the young ppl to listen to ur music and Americans gon fuck wit ur music regardless, I’m not sayin do the same thing that’s being done by everyone all the time but u have to so what’s hot/popular first in order to do wat ever you want, it is wat it is🤷🏽‍♂️

    When they go for African artists they go for people who have authentic sounds they cannot replicate. Mainstream American rap quality is tanking yet they'd never go for people outside or rapping in any other language with their ears. Stogie is flawed saying you have to replicate the style of hip-hop pioneers to make it as a GOAT when Motswako artists and Zulu rappers been dropping fire and pulling ears that don't even speak the language with the talent. It makes no sense to be a small fish in a huge pool when you can craft your own lane, Jay Z, Wale, Kwesta, Khuli Chana, Maglera Doe Boy may be in the genre but they have authentic styles no one can replicate that makes them unique and therefore the go-to when you want to hear their offerings.

    Thing is unless your main reason for making music is for everyone to like you, you’ll always have to comprise yourself to “better” for them. It’s weird to go from a Hip Hop guy to a Amapiano it’s too different cultures.

  • @fillemon_f
    @fillemon_f 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Problem is not the sound, it's the stories we tell on 'em. Then marketing and promotion.
    You first want to give people something personal to evoke their emotions everytime they listen to it, then you can leverage their emotions for years. The music still gotta be great + psychological promo/marketing.
    If you don't believe me, study Kendrick, J.Cole, Tupac, Drake and anybody in the spotlight rn.

  • @fillemon_f
    @fillemon_f 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If you know the artists "story", then you will probably stand by them for long if not a lifetime.
    Not only African artists but most artists globally over look the power of personal real life stories in their music, interviews etc. Study Jay z, 50, Tupac, Kendrick, Cole, 21 and any other artist with a certain type of momentum. They do more story telling (if not in their music, it's in their interviews/ biographies).
    Another thing is standing by your personal values and exhibiting your ultimate beliefs via your music, interviews etc. that's the real "authentic" blueprint to me.

    SA rappers usually rap in English so the Americans probably can't distinguish between American hip hop and South African hip hop. It does not sound unique enough to amaze them. For instance they all love amapiano because it is a fresh genre and is original to South Africa.

Forget featuring Benny The Butcher and trying to introduce him to our scene. Instead, go all out, fight like your career depends on it, to get as many Nigerian artists and South African Amapiano producers on your tracks. That's the true path to long-term success, right here in our market as things are.

    I love music and love thinking about this topic , i realized that all these new age rappers starting from Nasty c , A-reece and Emtee and all who came up after them , they all don't sound South Africa remove Emtee though but they all don't especially Nasty c, he was the artist we alll thought was gonna make it and here he is still, my reason for them not breaking through is obviously their sound but not only that, you're from SA with an American sound competing with all the other rappers who are trying to make it, the chances of you making it with your Atlanta sound is very slim, i think that amapiano came at the perfect time, it probably wasn't going to be as big either if covid hadn't happened, if tiktok wasn't poping and if hip hop in the USA wasn't dying, all these cobtribute to it big not that its a fluke but the timing is impeccable, and these artists showed up when the lights were on them , the crazy beats , the dances , the flow and put that on tiktok its over.
    I think a rapper that i think can have a chance is A-reece, i think A-reece gradually can , not be as big but have an fine amount of underground fans because he links with the rappers more i could see him having a song with benny the butcher, all the popular almost understood rappers i could see that happening, i think theres more of a chance there than Nasty c because he was fighting to be big and be amongst the drakes thats the one thats not so possible.
    I'll end with this, what the 2014 guys did is what every artist should do, the art needs to be from home, people need to love you here, then in Africa thats what should matter more than being huge in the US and then you might get that recognition, even business wise these new rappers are trash, they don't get deals, we don't see them anywhere, bro remember when Ricky had his deal with Russian bear, Aka was with Cruz, Reebok , Cassper had Ciroc, Nike, he had that phone he sold remember that red phone back in 2015.
    These guys can't even do a tour where theres 1000 people, the domes were one day performances but i think back then cassper could've pulled at least 2000 people if he toured SA in 2015, these new guys know nothing, their sound us the same, they don't have any business knowledge its bad, the Amapiano guys are killing it RN.

  • @sahiphopNETWORK

    Thats because they are bringing nothing new, no new vibe, style no new sound, originality is key in breaking new markets, our original sound like 2014 is what will give us an edge, which will give them something new to be intrigued about something new to explore like amapiano, afrobeat and reggaeton are proving this even uk drill is shows that being your authentic self and representing where your from at the highest quality is key to world wide influence, we must find our sound again or else only the top 10 will eat instead of 1000 eating even 100 000 can make a basic living of the music

    Nasty C will NEVER be as huge as Tyla. Everything about him gives vibes of an American wannabe. From 2014-2019, Hip-Hop had an iconic run and a very promising future. It's sad how Hip-Hop has changed since 2020 and the decline shows how irrelevant it is. South African rappers use Americans for clout to stay relevant but still struggle to gain American attention leading to their own downfall
