Lippy & Hardy are basically fursonas of the iconic duo theater masks (you know, one mask is smiling to represent Comedy & the other looks sad representing Drama/Tragedy).
I missed Lippy and Hardy….. I am glad I grew up with Boomerang back in the beginning of 2000’s. I love the classics very much. They are the meaning of timeless classics.🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A great "running" gag is when Lippy and Hardy are fleeing their constant enemies who are armed, their weapons seem to have a thousand rounds that always miss, the bullets streaking to their left... or right... depending on which way they are running.
If the music rights issues haven't been settled, we might be waiting for a while for that one, sadly. Considering they just put out Wally and Lippy, it's likely their next release will be Touché Turtle. I think they'll put out a few more 80's shows after this one, possibly Yogi's Treasure Hunt or something. Due to the music rights, I'm worried that Ruff and Reddy, Quick Draw McGraw and the rest of Huckleberry Hound will be waiting for a while. The only Quick Draw cartoons I've seen on dvd are from 1961, where they used Hoyt Curtin's underscores instead of the stock ones they'd used before.
Michael D. Kimpton Well that 80s stuff is more likely to be released because it’s in better condition. Ruff and Reddy wasn’t even announced, like Wally and Quick Draw, so it’s likely that Ruff will NEVER see the light of day, unless Boomerang is our savior...
I agree. Quick Draw Mcgraw would be great to have on DVD, along with Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, and Snooper and Blabber. I put my VHS cartoons on to DVD using my recorder but it's not the same and is incomplete.
This is a more obscure cartoon that i almost didn't remember but when i heard the hyena it became clearer . Ricochet rabbit and Deputy droop along were on before or after this one in the mid 70's .
The hyena, Hardy Har Har first debuted in a Snooper and Blabber cartoon, "Laughing Guess" on The Quick Draw McGraw Show before he eventually partnered up with Lippy the Lion and have their own cartoon segment on The New Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Series (aka The Wally Gator Show).
@@durece100 Yes, it is. Like Daws Butler, Mel Blanc have did voices of a lot of Hanna-Barbera characters. Also did the voice of Barney Rubble on The Flintstones.
Wow! This sure does take me back to 1975 when I was in kindergarten. I loved this cartoon, along with Wally the Gator. Thank you for the trip back in time. 😃
Lippy the lion and Hardy har har are old cartoons but there is still a fair amount of merchandise floating around online. DVD, books, comics, keyrings, fridge magnets, models (some quite expensive), and a Lippy the Lion board game with a laugh-o-metre!
Oh my. For the last few decades I was always thinking this was " *_Leo_* the Lion and Hardy Har Har". So it was "Lippy" not "Leo". Heh! I done learned something.
Got the DVD, and i have to say compared to Wally Gator, this set is in much better condition. Every episode is restored and the sound is great, save for one small audio blip later in the first episode. Otherwise, its a great release for the better show in the HB New Cartoon Series Trilogy. Now if Warner Archive could round it off with a Touché Turtle release, itll be perfect.
When I ask people to name their favourite Hanna - Barbera cartoons it's usually Scooby, Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi, etc.. These are good shows, but so far no one has mentioned Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har. This is a shame. They should be household names with people doing impressions of the paranoid non-laughing hyena as they struggle through the cruel banalities of existence.
I guess if Hardy kept laughing like they are supposed to, he might be a bit annoying. Anyway things do keep going wrong in life, and in their adventures I suppose he's right to expect the worst!
Hardy reminds me of a guy I used to work with who was always moaning and expecting the worst. I nicknamed him Hardy. You out there, Dave Marshall? You miserable sod! 😔
Yeah but I think it's intentional they paired up as friends. Since it's a time of civil rights movement and shows it's okay to be different and okay to be friends with someone that is different even when consider as enemies.
This was a goof on Laurel and Hardy...except they reversed the surname initials and called the Laurel character Hardy. Well, Hardy, here’s another nice mess you got me into.
The Laurel and Hardy resemblance was not known to me and had never occurred to me. I don't think that it's a perfect match. Laurel wasn't always so gloomy and Hardy wasn't always so upbeat.
In the Laurel and Hardy films, Stan used to cry sometimes, but I guess the inspiration for Hardy Har Har was just a reversal of a hyena laughing to all out worry and paranoia.
Hardy Har Har helped me out in life, that is to always expect the worst! Then I wouldn't be too disappointed 😥 ☺ Recent examples : Oh dear! The plumber won't turn up today!... Oh, my! My MOT will probably cost me a fortune!

A pretty good Charles Laughton impression
Featuring the voices of Daws Butler and Mel Blanc.
I don't think it's Mel Blanc. Did you research from this show?
In this episode, Daws was both the pirate and Lippy. Mel voiced Hardy and the parrot.
Daws performs a Joe E.Brown like voice for "Lippy The Lion" and he does a Charles Laughton like voice for the pirate.

So if Hardy is a hyena, how come he never laughs ??
He's a pessimist and also laughing hurts his mouth.
Irony
The character is more endearing to be totally paranoid, and this is offset with Lippy's optimism that balance the two.
Vocalizations from the masters...Daws Butler and Mel Blanc. There's just way too much over analyzing going on when it comes to classic cartoons.
